'Racek 3' My New BIG Bird

Held over two days I went along on the windier day it would seem! Here's a flavour of the day, a lot of models weren't unpacked but the atmosphere was still great and those that did fly but on a good display. Absolutely brilliant find Cliff. A swiveling camera wouldn't be impossible, though I see the canopy being an issue. Does this sailplane have a high start/bungee hook on the belly of the fuselage?
I need to do this for my Filon Champion.

Idea: Make a streamlined electric power pod pylon that rubber bands to wing . Thrust line pointing upward, removable for tow plane or other launch method. I once built a large fragile Cleveland stick and tissue Condor, rudder only, unsuccessful.
That would need a pretty big motor Gary, she weighs 15lb, I'll stick to my BoT with the power pod for the time being, cheers 👍

My sailplanes are self powered, except my UMX to tow with my UMX Super cub. Never had luck with that. Always wound up dangling the sailplane like a fish on a line! A quick unhook would save the day, but it would have been more fun to be able to tow it around in a circle.
Do you have a second pilot on the setup? When the tow plane turns left you need to apply right rudder and vice versa, this keeps the line tight ... that's the theory anyway 🤔👍
Yes, of course a second pilot was controlling the UMX sailplane. Unfortunately, we were never able to keep the sailplane above the tow plane to the point where we were even able to try a turn. It was fun anyway. Thanks for the reply!

Hi Cliff, do you use acrylic clearcoat for the model, and is it possible to also use a colored acrylic spray paint? greetings from the Netherlands
Yes, a couple of very light coats if you're planning on flying the model. Regarding your question on coloured acrylic the best idea is to make up a little test square of tissue and try it out, just go very lightly because it will add weight 👍
