GREAT JOB CLIFF, a tip for anyone else wanting to make those wheels if you run a ball point pen from the center of the paper cone out out on the inside with a ruler you can simulate the spoke position
Great idea Alexis ... next time, cheers
That is a really sharp looking plane!!!
Thanks Ron, maiden flight video this weekend 👍
Good job Cliff
Thanks David, not a new idea but worth repeating 🙂👍
Very nice work could use it on bigger planes too
Quite easily Paul, this style of wheel isn't cheap 🤔👍
Good looking wheels, Cliff!
They for the video!
Cheers Dave 🙂
That plane looks so nice Cliff! very good tip on how to make wheels on vintage planes!
Many thanks! 🙂👍
Thanks, Cliff. The scissors usage us a good tip, i have real problems squaring off the rubber ends.
Thanks Jack 👍
A lot of very interesting techniques in this one! And excellent results too!
Thank you Andrew, some good ideas in the comments too. Cheers!
Magic wheels - great job Cliff. One suggestion for the collet - if you put a drop of CA on the thread you are doing up (medium CA gives you a bit more working time) the collet will stay tight as the "screw" will not back out no matter how much vibration it experiences. PVA glue works as well just takes longer to set.
Both good ideas Ian, cheers 👍
Grande Cliff sei il migliore 🎉
Thanks 👍
Great stuff Cliff, handy use of your lazer 👍🏻
Absolutely Chris, the 1/4 balsa centres were cut from the cowl laminations so I'm glad I kept them ... I knew they would come in handy one day, just didn't realise it was going to be that week!
this was cool to watch 😊
Cheers 🙂👍
Thanks Cliff,i need to try this on my hk se5 😎
You should Bob, it's wheely easy (sorry) 😁👍
Bem feito este modelo gosto muito do seu trabalho.
Thanks Kesia 👍
Nice work Cliff.
Thanks 👍
Hi Cliff, Another option is large O-rings, these can be bought individually on e-bay, ie 80x10mm, 70x8mm.
Great idea Dan, I use small o-rings on my indoor models but the big ones would work just as well on bigger models 🙂👍
Quick, cheap and simple ... and really satisfying 😁👍
You can avoid cyanoacrylic adhesive sticking to fingers, work bench etc. by using cling wrap. To clean off cured cyanoacrylic adhesive use nitromethane.
Thanks for the comment, I generally have plastic over plans etc to avoid glue sticking. I didn't know Nitromethane had that quality, perhaps I should have an emergency bottle, cheers
Two wheels on my wagon
And I'm still rolling along
Them Cherokees are after me
Flaming spears
Burn my ears
But I'm singing a happy song
What's your point Nick ... fool 😀
@@CliffHarveyRCPlanes well you ain’t got 3 wheels
@@thebarronflightsI could have added a tail wheel but that wouldn't be scale, thanks for a witty repartee.
These wheels look the part! Thank you for sharing.
You're welcome Guy 👍
Really looking forward to this maiden Cliff.
This weekend Mark 🤔👍
How did you cut the wooden pieces? I struggle with cutting circles in anything.
Hi Les, I cheated really, the laser is my friend! But I've cut plenty of circles on the bandsaw. They don't have to be perfect either ... the tyre takes up any imperfections, cheers.
Did you have to give the parts store the Year Make and Model ? or did they just sell you bulk tubing ?
I have a lathe so I can turn down some Delrin ( or kitchen cutting board) to the shape I want. but that's just me. Nice job my friend.
They only had stock going back to 1920 Don so I had to buy my own off the shelf and make it fit! Cheers
What particular type of rubber tube are you using? Is there a particular composition so that CA glues it well? This is exactly what I need, but i's rather not buy $100 of assorted rubber tubing before finding the right one. Thank you! This is fantastic. Antique wheels are just about impossible to find. Event the few DuBro available are outrageously expensive.
Hi, it's Neoprene rubber which has a closed cell available in many diameters, the ca is nothing special, just your general medium ca. Here's a link to the Ebay shop I bought from (in the UK) to give you some idea what to search for in your country, cheers. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/114538749471
Well done! Paying $40+ for wheels is just dumb!!
I guess it comes down to finances and one's desire to create from scratch ... I'm the latter, cheers
Is the triplane 250 grams or less?
Hi Rodney, she's quite heavy at 692g with battery, I did think about making a really light one though for indoors, cheers
@@CliffHarveyRCPlanes 692g-250g=442g
Has there been rc airplanes built from boxboard(like cereal box material)? Would boxboard or foamboard(experimental airlines style) reduce the weight that much?
@@CliffHarveyRCPlanes paperboard not boxboard
