- My large Dancing Wings Fokker Dr.1 Triplane gets dusted off for a windy days' flying, these big birds fly very differently from sport models and it was like a maiden flight!

Good to see the Tripe is still flying.
Absolutely Gary 🙂👍
Beautiful flight my friend! Nice recover on that bounced landing! Cheers mate!
Thanks Jerry, yes I just managed to get it back onto both wheels 🙂👍
Beautiful Fokker Dr.1 Nice flight Cliff 👍🏻
Thanks Eric, she's eye candy all right 🙂👍
Beautiful model & flight.
Many thanks Roger 👍🙂
My second model was a Svenson Piper cub. My radio (4 channel) had no coupling of any kind, so I had to learn to fly using both ailerons and rudder. Best thing I ever did.
I agree Gudjon but the Graupner MZ transmitter has a very soft throttle stick and I found myself using the rudder and changing the throttle at the same time! As this model is sensitive to throttle management it was easier just to click it in for an easy life. For taking off definately just rudder for direction of course. Sometimes I find myself using rudder which isn't there on some of my models especially gliders, thanks for watching, cheers
Nice to see you get this beauty out again Cliff. That was an epic build. Sometimes it takes a bit to get reacquainted with a bird, but nice flying none the less!
Thanks Adam, I won't leave it so long next time 🙂👍
Looks stunning Cliff, you really did excel yourself on that build 😀👍
Thanks Ian, a labour of love though 👍
Briliinat Flight Cliff, 6mins a nice time as well, I was worried for you as you did not feel as one with the plane. Glad to see her safe and sound on the ground. 😀
Thanks Chris, when I get a few more flights under my belt I'll feel like I'm in the cockpit 🤔👍
I am happy when I get anything to stay in the air for more than a minute. Still to experience the grooviness ;) I found the landing pretty scale looking ;) Looking great and good you get the old models out for a spin once in a while!
Hi Andrew, after you flow in a model for a few times you definitely get to feel how she flies and what inputs are required for a smooth flight. Now I've dusted her off I plan to fly a her a few more times this Summer 🙂👍
Lovely 👏 Great conditions too!
I couldn't do the second flight Mike, the wind came up 🤔👍
I bet that's a blast to fly
She keeps me on my toes David 👍
Make sure throttle lock is on, and is reliable, when connecting and installing battery pack. Keep up the good entertaining videos.
Yes Gary, even so I don't trust it, my arms are below the prop arc 🤔👍
Nice flight Cliff
Cheers David 👍
Nice flight Chris. Took mine out yesterday but bottled out when wind got up. They are a unique flying experience 😂
Yes they are Jim, no point in pushing your luck ... Cliff 👍😁
I think we Fokker Dr1 owners should get together and create a Jäger squadron ❤
Grooving with a plane, that's a new one on me 😮, and I wish I knew what spadous were? 🤔. But that went very well. Well done!
Grooving felt the right word in the moment, as Jeff said the model was flying me instead of the other way around 🤔 A Spandou is a derivative of a Spandau machine gun, top mark's for spotting my thumbnail error 😁🤔👍
Cliff great flying and Barnstormers landing. Don’t like being behind on the controls instead looking ahead of the flight. Jeff in LA USA
I think after a few flights Jeff you do slowly get ahead of yourself and the model becomes predictable 👍🙂
@@CliffHarveyRCPlanes yep it’s like flying how you want to fly without thinking about moving the controller
Lovely model. Thanks for filming this flight.
Thanks Keith 👍
👍👍👍
Thanks Jon 🙂
The models flying you not you flying the model..... Ive had that feeling, stick with her shes a lovely model, I think that landing was cool 😊.
Thanks Mark, I'll definitely stick with her, she's a great looker. Actually I was lucky with the landing because I only just got over the fence wires which were laid down in the grass, catching one of those would have been more than a little embarrassing 😁👍
That was nice I want to make one even though I have too many planes. I have I think over 200 planes helicopters and all.
Thanks Paul, I would suggest making a smaller version, you can always find a place for a smaller model 🤔👍
LOL my wife told me that I can't get any more till I get rid of some. So I guess that I need to crash some l haven't been doing that!!! LOL
I've noticed that Dancingwings models look good, but they are a handful and seem a little tail heavy
at the stock c/g.
Hi Rafeal, it's hard to say specifically DW models, the other two models I've built from them are ok as is this one really, it doesn't handle like a tail heavy model to be fair 🤔👍
A Scale landing I think. 😜
I thought so too Stephen, it takes a lot of practice to land like that 😁👍
@@CliffHarveyRCPlanes I'm sure that's how the full size where landed. Not a lot of experienced pilots back then.
Hi Cliff, could I please ask if you are flying with the motor and prop that is supplied with the kit and what lipo you are using. Only had one scary short hop with mine and it was going pretty hard left all the time with a real reluctance to turn right. Going to put a slight Aileron rudder mix in before I put my bicycle clips on and try again 🫣
Hi Phil, the motor is the one supplied, not sure about the prop but could be, so the motor is a QA4220, 650kv, the prop is a 16x6E. The battery I'm using is a 6200mah 4s right up in the cowl for cg along with a couple of ounces of lead (which is about 73mm from the leading edge of the centre wing). I have about 2° of right thrust to help to counter any tendency to turn left under torque. You definitely need to use rudder to turn especially at slow speed. Be careful not to do any high speed dives, mine doesn't like it! Are you certain your wings aren't warped causing more lift on one side?
Also did you see my maiden, that was scary too, all I needed was to use a bit of rudder! czcams.com/video/ww8dS5uYhgc/video.htmlsi=EtFr65LjDL6aPK3P
@@CliffHarveyRCPlanes Thanks for that Cliff 👍
I did indeed see your maiden video 🫣.
Unfortunately I found your build vlog after I had finished mine😤.as it could have saved me a whole lot of grief !.
The motor in mine is the same as yours but the prop that came with it is a 14x7 E.
It seemed vastly underpowered so I fitted a 5S lipo and that seemed much better albeit on a very short scary flight.
I’ll swap the prop and give it another go.
P.S. all wings seem true but I haven’t got the benefit of an incidence meter so that is set up using the MK 1 eyeball.
I’ll let you know if the next flight is successful , if not I might have a few spares you can have 🤔.
@@philiprawlinson25610:01 I fitted the bigger prop after experimenting with a watt meter, of course it'll have a bigger effect on the torque which is not what you want but then it may be turning slower anyway 🤔 As for incidence as long as opposing wings are the same it should be ok. If the worst happens you can always make it into a Focker D7 🙂👍
@@CliffHarveyRCPlanes I might turn it into firewood 🫣.
I’ll get the wattmeter out and experiment with props. I would prefer to fly it on 4s as I have lots of 4s lipos and only 1 x 5s but the pull on 5s was obviously much better and it was well within the motor and esc parameters without any added lead up front.
Once the wind stops blowing I’ll clench by buttocks and give it another go 🤞🤞🤞
