    One thing I faced. I got a 4090 and using all display port to triple 48GQ900. Left the hdmi port free to use. But after I use a high quality hdmi2.1 which can support 8k 120hz, the Nvidia setting freaks out. It still shown my surround setting which 11520x2160 with 138hz. But my MAG271QX can’t work. It turn off and my display setting always shown this monitor inactive, I can’t active it by clicking in the display setting for unknown reason, even though I click “extend desktop to this display” multiple times. I did update the firmware to the latest FW012 and I can’t see the option of DSC. I also update the monitor driver provided from MSI website. Now I am stuck. 😢 pls help

    So I have been using LG oled 55" for my desktop for the past 2 years, before that I was using the 55" Samsung Q8C and I recently went down to the 43" Samsung Q90B and I absolutely hated the size, Sensible is not the word I would use, it all comes down to user preference. I now recently got the LG Oled 48" C2 and I am in love with it. This for me is the sweet spot. I am an Environment artist for a game studio, before that I was a 3d Animator and VFX artist for the past 20+ years. For me screen real estate is everything, The 55" was great with the Samsung as it was a curved screen so being able to comfortably see the edges of the screen was allot better. Going to a flat screen LG Oled 55" was a crappy decision and it felt very uncomfortable to use, and the text was terrible on the LG due to the extra white pixel. But the 48" I really think is the sweet spot. I can still divide my screen up into quadrants of a decent size, I can have Unreal open in one quadrant, reference above, Maya/Substance next to Unreal and a web browser top left. On the 43" This was uncomfortable to use in that way as the quadrants are simply too small, the viewports of the apps become unuseable and feel like I am working on 15" laptop screen. On the 48" and 55" it is a hell of a lot more comfortable to work in that way. At the end of the day a screen and it's size is based on the user who is using it and what they are using it for. Saying a 42" is the only sensible size is a very biased things to say in my opinoon as it may work for you but for many other users it's simply to small for their use case. The next thing I would like to bring up is how you mount the screen and the desk that you use is everything when using larger displays. a 42 - 43" can be used on it's stand and it's ok....but then you are loosing desk realestate. It doesn't matter how the stands are designed, it takes up desk space. I personally wall mount my displays and I wall mount it exactly 0.5cm above my desk making the screen the perfect height for where my head is, making it extremely comfortable to use, it also allows me to use my entire desk when the need arises.

    • @tftcentral
      @tftcentral Před 4 dny

      Thanks for the lengthy feedback, very interesting. When we said 42” was the max “sensible size”, we were talking about for the majority of people. Everyone is different, absolutely, but the majority of those looking for a desktop monitor I think would find 42” their limit. Just my opinion on the matter, it’s not “biased”, it’s just a personal view.

    can someone clarify cause im a total noob when it comes to this stuff. Is it not possible to make use of the 240hz on the 4k display with either display port 1.4 or hdmi 2.1 ?

    • @tftcentral
      @tftcentral Před 4 dny

      It absolutely is possible, but will require you to leave DSC enabled on the monitor. That’s a visually lossless compression technique that supports 4K 240Hz over both those connections. Obv you will also need a modern graphics card capable of supporting all this too

    Dissapointed with 321urx - too dim. Very bright for small percentage of screen area, but if you have a pdf with lots of whites the screen dims down like crazy in brightness, to a degree where it is annoying. It is like as if you where going from 80% brightness on a normal screen, and down to 15% just because a larger amount of the screen needs to be bright.

    • @tftcentral
      @tftcentral Před 4 dny

      The simple solution to that is to not use HDR mode for that kind of content. You should only enable HDR when viewing actual HDR content. In SDR operation the screen has uniform brightness at all window sizes so you’d never see dimming as you change content or window sizes 😀

    I don't know if you intentional left it out or actually missed it, but with HDR active you can change the color profile. I personally find the Display P3 mode the most pleasing to my eyes, but of course I don't know how acurate that is. Unforturnately the OSD is not able to memorize different color settings for different modes, as in sRGB for SDR and Display P3 for HDR. You'd have to change it manually every time. Since I use the monitor mostly for gaming and mostly with HDR (especially nowadays where RTX HDR is available for games that don't support it natively) I left it at Display P3 in general. But I'd like to hear your opinion why the sRGB mode is recommended for HDR. Thanks in advance. PS: On second thought...I could just stick with the "User" mode in HDR, too. Should take everything I set up before over to HDR anyways. And I just had a quick glance, looks great. :)

    • @tftcentral
      @tftcentral Před 7 dny

      Yes user mode would operate with the full native gamut in both modes. At the moment you’re right that the same mode applies to both SDR and HDR and so it’s easier to stick with a single mode. If MSI fix that via a FW update later on, you could maybe consider using sRGB then for SDR, but using the User mode is fine too

    Do you have an opinion on true 10bit versus 8bit + FCR? I'm trying to decide whether to... a) Use the monitor with 144hz + 10bit HDR over DP b) Use the monitor with 175Hz + 8bit (FRC) HDR over DP or maybe even c) Switch to an HDMI 2.1 cable I'd appreciate any advice. :) Thanks in advance.

    • @tftcentral
      @tftcentral Před 7 dny

      I suppose it really depends what frame rates you’re reaching in your games. If you’re getting over 144Hz, I’d go with the higher refresh rate as I don’t think you’d notice any real difference on the colour depth side of things. Or just use an HDMI 2.1 connection and get both if your graphics card supports it 😀

    • @GODzillaGSPB
      @GODzillaGSPB Před 7 dny

      @@tftcentral Framerate wise 144 is enough for me. 120 is enough for me, which is what I usually set my RTSS fps limit to. I've been running in 144hz mode for quite a while now to be honest. It's just that your test made me think about your graph with the input lag. Lowest with 175hz, rather terrible with 60hz and me somewhere in between. But I guess I was thinking wrong there. 175hz withouth the proper fps to back it up will not on it's own give me low input lag, or will it?

    • @tftcentral
      @tftcentral Před 7 dny

      @GODzillaGSPB yes it would actually. The lag is linked to the refresh rate you have the screen set to, regardless of your achieved frame rate or VRR situation. Perhaps try 175Hz and see if you notice any difference or not. We didn’t measure it at 144Hz but I suspect it’s a very minor difference if any

    • @GODzillaGSPB
      @GODzillaGSPB Před 6 dny

      @@tftcentral I'll give it a thought. I'm using the 144hz ceiling to lower fps for games that use Frame Generation. These can easily hit the 168 fps (which is the natural ceiling, imposed by Nvidia reflex I guess, when running 175hz), which usually also maxes out the graphic card, meaning high power consumption and heat. Setting the monitor to 144hz eases this down a notch. I'm living in a country where air conditioning is uncommon, so saving a bit in terms of heat and power consumption is a plus for me. ^^ Most games running with Frame Generation do not work well when I impose an artificial fps limit (via RTSS for instance), so the "natural" ceiling via monitor frequency is the only way. So, in short: This probably has more benefits for me than the slightly better input lag with 175hz I guess. PS: I did notice that you never actually answered my initial question about 8bit + FRC versus 10bit. So I'd like to ask again, do you have any experience with that? I saw no difference with the naked eye, so in general, apart from the very specific idea with the ceiling for FG, 175hz would be the way to go, even over DP. You see it differently? Thanks in advance.

I use this monitor for gaming, browsing, movies as well as music production and video editing. I don't find the poorer text clarity compared to non-OLEDs to be a major issue. The difference HDR makes in games is substantial. Bright things in games like flames and headlights actually look like they're emitting light.
