    I've been absolutely loving my 42" C2 but definitely miss higher refresh rates and it sucks to use for work just due to babying it. A 27" 240hz 4k that can also do 480hz 1080P as an IPS seems like a phenomenal all-rounder as long as the response times are good and we're given a variable overdrive option, either via GSYNC or via its OSD. There better be a damn KVM and USB-C 90W too. I'd miss the blacks and instant response times from the TV but having one panel for everything will be great.

      I found a displaydaily article which says IPS black is actually a novel change in materials, but that one of the few casualties was response times. Hopefully we can see it improve as AUO are working on it too, but for now especially with miniLED I'd wonder if improving VA's colours/angles is more practical for HRR

  • @GL1zdA
    @GL1zdA Před 6 měsíci

    Bought last year the Lenovo P40w-20 based on the 40" LG IPS panel. Mostly for programming and I think these are the best of what you can get if you want both an ultrawide (to tile additional windows, I'm working with a 1:2:1 layout) and as much height as you can (to get as many lines of code as possible). There's not much competition in this segment, Lenovo, Dell and I think HP all are using the LG panel and even bundle it with similar options (like a built-in KVM). Good to see these niche panels still have some future. I've seen Dell already announced their version with the IPS Black one. Maybe a 32:9 panel would be even better, but if one targets display height, the only alternative to the 40" is the 57" Samsung, which basically works like 3 old-school 4:3 displays side-by-side.

    My ideal monitor and the one I have kind of been waiting for even though it is a very slim chance it will exist would be:
    Criteria Monitor:
    Mini LED (minimum 2000 zones). No OLED because of the risk of burn in and the low brightness
    Excellent HDR
    HDR with a minimum brightness of 1000 nits full screen sustained
    200+Hz
    4k, 32 inch
    IPS
    Excellent colors and excellent color accuracy
    Excellent uniformity
    Excellent response times (less than 3ms is acceptable)
    Excellent contrast
    DP 2.1
    Excellent motion clarity
    Flat screen

    • @RoderickGI
      @RoderickGI Před 6 měsíci +1

      Pretty much what I want as well. only:
      IPS Black ( I guess you cover that with "Excellent Contrast", particularly as you said it twice!)
      120 Hz, I'd be happy with that, but accept higher.
      DP 2.1 not mandatory, as I've been convinced it isn't necessary for 4K at 120 Hz. Of course, I would like some future-proofing.
      Must have USB-C inputs. Outputs could be mixed. Must all be USB 3.2 Gen2 20 Gbps ports. USB 4 or compatible Thunderbolt would be acceptable.
      Must be a flat screen.
      Wish list:
      DP 2.1 One DP input, two DP output, so I can drive three 4K screens via one cable, daisy chaining my two side monitors together. (My side monitors don't have DP out.)

    • @emiel255
      @emiel255 Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@RoderickGI seems like a solid list! The only 2 things I have something to say about are DP 2.1 and 120Hz
      120Hz for me seems to be a pretty low refresh rate and the bare minimum for a monitor. Also depends on the price tag of course I personally think that if a new monitor comes out with an expensive price tag (let’s say 1000 dollars) then it just wouldn’t sell because 120Hz at that price point is unacceptable. I have a monitor that has 120Hz and I bought that thing 6 years ago and back then it was just over 1200 dollars. So a monitor with 120Hz now for gaming would be a no go (unless you are mainly using it for something else of course hahah)
      DP2.1 that has to be on the monitor. Yes, I have heard all the things about Dp 1.4 with DSC not being a problem but to me that sounds like an excuse to not implement the latest feature and just to cheap out generally. Again, it depends on what price points you’re looking at but if a monitor that is $1000 or higher doesn’t have DP 2.1 to me that is unacceptable. I’m gonna be spending a premium price on something I expect premium features especially because the future GPU will definitely have a DP 2.1 port

    • @RoderickGI
      @RoderickGI Před 6 měsíci

      @@emiel255 I can't disagree with any of that, and yes, it comes down to price and value for money.
      My main monitor, used for some games when new but now mostly for business applications, is a Dell 3008WFP from 2009. It cost about AU$2250. If I was paying that much again I would want all the latest technology. Getting 15 years out of a monitor that is still working fine is pretty impressive. It owes me nothing. But I would like to match resolutions with my two 4K Dell 27" monitors that I use on the sides.
      My main use is business applications these days, which is why I would accept 120 Hz and DP 1.4 if the price was right. More around AU$1000 to AU$1200.
      I'd pay the price of the 3008WFP again, maybe a bit more, if it had higher USB specs, such as USB 4 v2.0+ with 80 Gbps, a built-in KVM Switch, and two PC inputs. Driving three 4K monitors via a USB-C cable would be... interesting. It would also save a lot on an external KVM and the use of USB for Ethernet sharing and driving the two 4K screens, for which I have a fast USB hub.
      Higher refresh rates for a little gaming again, at 4K, would certainly be nice. I'm still trying to decide between a gaming or Business monitor for that reason. But they wouldn't have the built-in KVM and other Business features.

    • @tftcentral
      @tftcentral  Před 6 měsíci +2

      Adaptive sync is added by the monitor manuf via the scaler so it’s hard to say what will and won’t be produced. Not sure whether the Dell Model does or doesn’t feature it tbh, not seen it confirmed. But it seems like it would be an odd omission given there’s no cost to it as such

    • @otravoyadnoe

      @@user-wm1tb7ji5t Why? Contrast is still minuscle compared to OLED (apart from Q-OLED in a brightly lit environment) and response times are noticably slower as well (and I'm afraid they'll get slower with higher contrast, which seems to be typical behaviour for LCD panels).
      It's an amazing development nevertheless, especially if the prices won't be ridiculous, but for people who can really afford OLED displays there are few reasons to be interested in IPS Black. By really being able to afford I mean being able to replace them in 3 years in case of burn-in that MAY occur due to suboptimal use cases paired with lack of appropriate care/precautions or something else happens to them.

    Great for office work and SOME creative applications I'm sure, Dead tech for gaming. As soon as we get PHOLED is game over for ANY other panel tech for gaming that isn't a evolution of OLED/ PHOLED. Everything else is just too slow, and with the efficiency PHOOLED will bring, the already small/ unlikely chance of getting burn in will drop to almost ZERO while offering better HDR and ultra Elite speed that nothing else can touch. PLS just ditch everything else and advance OLED stuff as fast as possible LCD ANYTHING is just an obsolete waste of valuable resources and money.

    I feel like IPS Black is a dead end

      @@juanblanco7898It's an expensive IPS that's worse than VA and especially OLED

    The 5k2k 120hz is my endgame for monitors. Enough real estate with clean fonts for work, and small enough pixels for me to not mind non-integer scaling in games.

      5k2k is the ultra wide display? I don’t like that naming :(

      That’s just the short hand for the resolution not any monitor name 😀

      @@thecwwshow8036 Yeah it's ultrawide 4k (same vertical res), but since "ultrawide 4k" could also mean same horizontal res (3840 x whatever) it is way simpler to just call it 5k2k.

      @@tftcentral I know. I just don’t like the short hand name. It’s not consistent with previous resolution. I never see 3k1k.

    i would like to get one of those 1440p 480hz monitors to compete in games, but i think the war against cheaters is lost, therefore i will go for the 4k 240hz models to enjoy singleplayer and cooperative games and movies.

      As a console gamer I can't imagine the struggle of competetive multiplayer gaming on PC. You have guys with 240 Hz (soon 480 Hz) OLEDs or 500 Hz TN/IPS monitors and other high-end hardware from CPU and GPU to gaming mice(?) with up to a few times more fluidity and responsiveness thanks to higher FPS and lower input latency etc; you have guys using on-display crosshairs, black equalizers and similar stuff; and then you have straight up cheaters (though I'd argue the previous category are cheaters too).
