    I don't understand the lack of a polariser, greyish blacks kills one of the big advantages of OLED. Think I still prefer WOLED for monitor usage.
    Also no DP2.0/2.1 is another deal breaker.

      Going from an LG CX 48" to the Alienware 34" DWF really was not as great of an upgrade as I was hoping. I didn't think I'd miss those super dark inky blacks as much as I am. I barely notice a difference in colors either. And now I'm also regretting going with an ultrawide display. I will most likely get an LG C4 42" next year, but I'm not sure yet.

    Good news. But the fact that panel manufacturers still need to intentionally dim oled monitor panels relative to tv screens suggests that the technology still isn't ready for full use in PC monitors.
    Granted, people using monitors sit much closer to them than they do to tvs. But they also sit closer to true hdr lcd screens, which do have higher brightness.

    Looking forward to a 27" 2160p240 with DP2.1 and a less grainy coating to replace my 27GR95QE but it looks like that's a ways off.
    Though what I *really* want is 2880p240 for 200% scaling, and some good strobing or god forbid a tunable rolling refresh... Wish we had more people championing that.

    • @Skylda
      @Skylda Před 11 měsíci +1

      I can tell you that. It's simply the sizes. The standard sizes of televisions are produced and sold in mass quantities. Manufacturing OLED panels in small sizes is difficult. You need new machines, new processes, increased errors and rejects and much more. All the effort for too few sales compared to televisions. That's why the prices are (currently) high.

    Isn't this the Samsung Panel, that's slower and has more burn-in than LG's? I thought only the backlight was Oled on these.

    • @tftcentral
      @tftcentral  Před 11 měsíci +2

      There’s no backlight on any OLED panels as they are self emissive, but it’s using a Samsung QD-OLED panel as opposed to an LG WOLED panel. Both are equally fast in terms of response times (near instant).
      I haven’t seen anything that conclusively and fairly proves either is more reliable than the other or more/less prone to burn in. Either should be fine for their intended uses of gaming and other dynamic content. Neither is going to be great if you’re using it for a lot of static content or abusing it 😀

    I'll be interested if it has ULMB 2 and 240hz BFI, otherwise that 4K resolution is only true for static images not dynamic, which with sample and hold displays is barely 50% or 720p resolution or so, not good at all and for sure not good enough for gaming on, I really hope Nvidia produces a G-Sync module for OLED with built-in rolling scan BFI and ULMB 2.

    • @tftcentral
      @tftcentral  Před 10 měsíci +1

      It definitely won’t/ can’t have ULMB2 without a Native Gsync module and it’s not expected to feature BFI either unfortunately. The motion clarity is approximately equivalent to a 360Hz LCD though so is very good for gaming still.

    • @Wobble2007
      @Wobble2007 Před 10 měsíci

      @@tftcentral Unfortunately I can't see the point in buying into a display that is just slightly less blurry than 60hz sample and hold, because that is all 240hz or any refresh rate under 1000hz aka 1ms of motion clarity, ULMB 2 gives the equivalent motion perception of 1000hz 1ms and BFI is also really useful to improve motion even further, 480hz rolling scan BFI might be good for 0.4ms motion performance, so I'm waiting on the first 32" 16:10 OLED to have a proper Gsync module with ULMB 2 & BFI baked in the hardware, as someone that uses a flawless CRT monitor with 0.1 MS motion resolution/clarity, I just can't stand to go from that to barely 20% of 720p worth of dynamic/motion resolution.

    What's the point of having a 4K 240 Hz monitor if you can never get anywhere close to those frame rates. The only way you're going to be able to hit anywhere near there is with dlss in the future. Which is pointless because it's a downgrade in resolution. It basically looks like you're playing in 3K instead of 4K .

    why the hell would i buy a 4k monitor with 240hz when all the games run in 60-80 fps right now, with rare ocasions of 110-120 in some games ? Even on a 4090 ?
    Even when the 5090 card comes out, it will probably run games at 150-170 fps 4k, still not achieving 200+ fps.
    This is pure marketing.
    If you are smart and you have a 4070-4080-4090 card, what you should do is buy a 2k monitor with 200+ hz and be happy for the next 10 years.
