    Which one is more likely to come first - a next gen QD-OLED panel with even more text clarity enhancements, or proper Windows support for QD-OLED text subpixel layout?

    I've had this monitor for about a week and I'm very pleased with it. Coming from an Acer Predator X34 IPS, it's my first OLED and first HDR screen. I use this monitor for gaming, browsing, movies as well as music production and video editing. I don't find the poorer text clarity compared to non-OLEDs to be a major issue. The difference HDR makes in games is substantial. Bright things in games like flames and headlights actually look like they're emitting light. In HDR I prefer the Peak1000 mode because it makes small highlights pop more than in Trueblack 400, while everything else remains pretty close.

      Are you able to Play games in Full screen without having the Monitor try to go to 4K resolution instead of the usual 3440x1440 via HDMI 2.1?
      I can't play games like Rocket league or Icarus because of this on my Mag341CQP.

      @kevinstoops7216 you could try using the CRU tool and deleting the graphics card EDID entry for 3840 x 2160, as long as you don’t actually use that from your pc over HDMI for anything else. It will be an oddity with the screen thinking you’re using a console

    Great review. I bought this monitor a week ago and initially enjoyed it, but had issue with adaptive sync when it's not fully working properly.
    I suspected the monitor's refresh rate didn't really follow in game's FPS (despite its refresh rate counter displaying it is) resulting in juddering when panning the game around. It was largely noticeable when capping FPS around 90% of monitor's refresh rate e.g. 108 FPS @ 120Hz, 216 FPS @ 240Hz. Furthermore at 240Hz, capping at 60, 80, 120 FPS didn't have juddering as the numbers are divisible from 240Hz.
    I've already sent my monitor back for warranty, but what still bugged me is whether it's just a bad luck issue or a worldwide issue which could be solved via firmware update.

    Amazing review! How noticeable is the washing out of colors in HDR for woled vs QD Oled? I want to get an ultra wide to complement my PG32UCDM but the dimness in real scenes bug me in the peak 1000 nits mode. I’m hoping to avoid this with a woled. (worth noting that ASUS recently added more options to combat this and I’m enjoying the Gaming mode’s brightness now so I’m looking for a similar picture level).

    • @tftcentral
      @tftcentral  Před měsícem

      The WOLED just generally look a little less colorful I think. Partly due to washout from the white boost, but that’s only really for low APL scenes and small highlights keep in mind. More generally it’s because of the slightly smaller colour gamut and even a bit from the screen costing finish.
      Probably more of a consideration I think would be if you mind the steep 800R curvature that the WOLED ultrawide panels have? That’s a lot more than the 1800R of the QD-OLED models

Still have a little bit before deciding if I want to return it.

    • @tftcentral
      @tftcentral  Před 25 dny +2

      It’s probably a combination of both the unusual pixel layout and the low pixel density. Note that the 39” models are using WOLED panels as opposed to QDOLED and overall I think those show more fringing and text clarity problems, even where the screen size is the same. So you’d see some improvements moving to a smaller screen with higher density, and also to a QDOLED panel I think

      @justinstewart3248 the Dell Alienware models both use the original gen 1 panel from 2022 which is 175Hz max only. The Asus model used an LG Display 240Hz WOLED panel. This is the first 34” QD-OLED monitor with 240Hz, using the new gen 2.5 panel from Samsung 😀

    I still don’t understand why we need more than 120hz (unless you play games professionally). I’d rather see manufacturers work on larger screens with higher resolution so these monitors could be used for productivity purposes.

      I on the other hand personally enjoy higher refresh rate even if I'm not playing competitively. 120Hz is smooth enough yes, but 240Hz is noticeably better. Regardless a higher resolution monitor is planned on its roadmap.

      Many people find video reviews extremely helpful for evaluating monitors. They provide a dynamic way to see the monitor in action, showcase details, and offer visual comparisons that text alone can't achieve. Plus, it's easier for many to consume content this way. If you prefer written reviews, that's great-there are plenty out there for you!
