    If the text clarity is good with the 32" 4K 240/480Hz model that sounds like a top candidate for a very versatile main monitor, I can't wait to see it released and catch some reviews. I hope that getting better support for arbitrary subpixel structures is on Microsoft new year's resolutions.

      @jeffersonmp4 why? You can get pixel perfect integer scaling from a 4k panel for 1080p (exactly 4 monitor pixels per res pixel) and so for gaming and multimedia, it should look very good. Maybe do a video explaining what the white sub pixel removal is all about. It’s due to the new blue phospher coming to the OLED industry in 2025. And it’s not just removing a white sub pixel, it allows LG to remove an entire panel layer of the monitor, allowing more brightness, more energy efficiency (and perhaps more clarity due to one less layer).

    • @goblinphreak2132
      @goblinphreak2132 Před 7 měsíci +6

      more than likely LG wont be losing layers. firstly the current models are made where one layer red, one layer blue, and one layer green are stacked. then subpixels wise, the have 3 color filters for each main color respectively (red/blue/green) and then one subpixel which is clear, aka white. removing that white subpixel they would still need the three layers.
      samsung, went the route of 1 layer of blue oled. then using quantum dots to filter red/blue/green respectively. IF LG goes this route, i except there to be patent issues that will breach on samsungs designs. which will be bad for LG.
      this to me means that LG will continue with their typical 3 layer OLED. red/green and a new blue layer. and then simply filtering red/blue/green with their own color filters (which are inferior to quantum dots anyway). so yeah it will be brighter thanks to the blue layer, but still not a single layer like samsung (unless they pay samsung to use their patent which means higher consumer prices for LG OLEDs so again, probably wont happen).
      Edit: confirmed its a typical MLA panel from LG, meaning its their classic design. Nothing special/new.

      @@joecox9544 LG panel structure is the same they have always had 3 layers. One blue, one green, one red. Stacked. Together and all turned on equal white. Then they use their own color filters to make red/green/blue sub pixels respectively. Leaving the white subpixel filter clear for pure white.
      Samsung panels are literally just one blue layer (not stacked r/g/b like LG), with quantum dots on top to make red/blue/green subpixels. Its why samsung was able to hop into the oled game so fast. Its a simpler technology. And since quantum dots are a samsung patent technology, their color filtering is superior. Samsung can stack extra layers of blue sheets to increase brightness, but its a balancing act. Technically since LG stacks 3 layers samsung could stack 3. Even first gen panels I couldn't find if samsung was using 1 layer of blue or 3 layers of blue....

      @definingslawek4731 Před 7 měsíci

      I don't understand if qd oled is geniunely like more saturated (while being accurate?) thatn woled or if it's a case of, in vivid mode you can deep fry the colours even further than you can in woled. Cause I don't use my lg c3 in vivid mode as I use it as a monitor for creative work, I need an accurate view of what I'm working on. I suppose it's like studio audio monitors (speakers) with a flat frequency response with no EQ on them, meanwhile you can buy consumer speakers with a super cranked up EQ. Is this the saturation difference in qd oled vs woled or am I mistaken?

    • @tftcentral
      @tftcentral  Před 7 měsíci +3

      @definingslawek4731 it’s nothing to do with any vivid modes or inaccurate fake boosts of vividness. It’s because of the wider colour gamut of the QD layer, colours look more vivid and that in turn increases the perceived brightness of colours too. This only matters if you’re using the screen in its full wide gamut mode though of course. If you used sRGB emulation on both screens to work with SDR content for instance, they’d both have the same emulated colour space and would look the same

    • @definingslawek4731
      @definingslawek4731 Před 7 měsíci

      @@tftcentral I'm still confused though as when I switch from vivid on my c3 to my customised filmmaker mode for accuracy, the colours get less saturated and it gets less contrasty, which would suggest to me that vivid mode is essentially already too saturated.
      Are you saying that qd oled when setup to be accurate would be more saturated than lg woled? (I'm imagining if I'm already not using the maximum saturation of my panel then the option to go even further isn't important to me.)
      I do use my c3 in its native colour gamut.

    • @tftcentral
      @tftcentral  Před 7 měsíci +2

      @definingslawek4731 there’s a difference here between what vivid mode is doing and what is achieved through increased colour space coverage. Vivid mode is “faking” more saturation but does so by making the image and colours less accurate. If you increase the colour gamut/colour space of the panel then it can cover more colours potentially, but can do so while those colours are still accurate.
      The difference would only really be visible if you were viewing content that was mastered in that wider colour space though. If you viewed SDR content then that’s mastered in the small sRGB colour space and so it won’t use all of the available gamut anyway. Likewise if the content is in DCI-P3, commonly used for HDR content then those WOLED panels can already cover that colour space and so the extra gamut of the QD panel wouldn’t be needed. If however the content was mastered in a wider gamut colour space like Rec2020 then the QD panel could cover more of that, and would therefore look more colourful and vivid, but importantly that would be “new” colours that the WOLED panel can’t cover, and would still be accurate.

It's not about fitting MORE on the screen and sitting at the same distance and moving your head around a lot (This is when it might feel too big) It's about putting the same amount of content on screen as you'd have with a 32 inch but just larger, meaning you can sit further away and your eyes can focus with less strain as they're not focusing on something as close.

With the majority of content still being 16:9, it doesn't make sense to go for an ultrawide OLED. Burn-in seems to be an issue when viewing standard 16:9 content on an UW display, something to keep in mind. Everything else can be mitigated. Hiding taskbars, toning down brightness, setting the monitor to sleep after a certain amount of time, etc.

    I'd pick lower prices over more specs. The biggest issue (aside from price) with OLEDs is burn in, especialy for people that do office work as well as gaming/films. If 1440p 144hz 27inch OLEDS were £300, burn in wouldn't be such an issue as replacing it every 3/4 years would be ok. However they tend to be at least double that, often three times, which means it a lot of money. I'm still using LCDs from 8 years ago.

      @@hugohserrano You just intimated as to why many people still worry about burn in: you have to worry about how you use your monitor, so yes, you have to use it with care to avoid burn in, even if it would take long-term to develop (3-4+ years).
      The mass market does not want to baby their displays, so a technology that needs babying is not ready or suitable for the mass market.
      If you have the means to use multiple displays (oled for media, lcd for work/browsing/etc., then great, but many people are not in such a position, and they can only use 1 monitor, so of course OLED burn-in chances is high on the list of considerations.

    Any word on if they are overcoming the brightness flicker associated with G-Sync?
    As a PC gamer, OLED is phenomenal. It always bugged me seeing backlight bleed and obviously OLED doesn't have that. That being said, it can be very distracting having brightness flicker is dark scenes. As far as I've found, this is it to do with the variability of the FPS and having G-Sync enabled. As someone that can't stand ultrawide and extrawide, seeing some major improvements to the 27" monitors is very welcome. In theory it means the old models will come down in price as well!

      I have a super ultra rides for about six years now, and for me, it’s difficult to go back to a 27 inch or something like that the fact that they can display multiple pieces of info on a single screen is such a timesaver and just overall very handy to have. Maybe I will buy it, 32 inch 4K monitor for gaming and desktop usage, and then use my current monitor as some sort of information screen

    I think the elephant in the room for these WOLED panels is whether or not there are any improvements in color performance of these WOLED panels. Monitors like the ASUS PG27AQDM has horrendous color reproduction issues in HDR mode. It could only achieve 89% DCI-P3 coverage in HDR mode while having massive skin tone issues with the MCM104 firmware. The MCM105 firmware addressed the skin tone issues by decreasing the DCI-P3 gamut coverage down to 74%. Although both SDR and HDR modes covers about 99.9% of sRGB gamut, and 94.5% sRGB color gamut in both firmware respectively, the monitor just looks less vibrant and dull even with calibration in HDR mode. I am excited to see how QD-OLED would perform in comparison, I have a S95B TV and I am really happy with its performance even in HDR mode.

    QD OLED or bust for me tbh.
    That said, their potential push for 34/39 inch, 5120x2160 panels is interesting and I hope is met with some QD OLEDs at that size/spec.

    Man, now I'm torn. I was looking forward to the new 45" 2160p ultrawide but I think the 39" would be the better buy. I was recently able to see the current 45" 1440p LG model on display at best buy and, I dunno, I don't know if I need that much real estate or would rather go with the pixel density. I think I will just have to wait and see if I can find a demo model of this new 39" 1440p when it comes out to see if it's big enough, as I have found that over time my 34" ultrawide does seem to get shorter from my perspective and as much as I love it I wish I had some more vertical space, but as I game on a laptop from time to time I also know the benefit of pixel density. this is exciting news, but DAMN YOU AND YOUR ROADMAP UPDATE!!!!!!! 😊. Seriously though, thank you for the update, you rock, happy holidays, may your motion be clear and your nits be bright, and to all a good night. That's catchy, use it at will if you wish

      Talking about the 5120x2160 monitors the PPI on the 39" should be about 134 same as a 32" 4k .the PPI on the 45" should be close to a 27" 1440p .
