    Heres the huge issue with people always saying wait... You will always be waiting as especially in the monitor space there is always something around the corner. If you really need a new monitor then get one, if you can wait out as something better is coming then do so. But overall just know that your monitor will quickly be outclassed, or a better deal will come along shortly after.

    • @hansip87
      @hansip87 Před 9 měsíci +5

      ... Which is why it's better to wait. the OLED tech itself is still maturing so maybe 2-3years more won't hurt. It's not like IPS monitor which already matured over years and having multiple revisions, that opting for 144hz and 165hz screen won't have drastic price difference.

    • @lilpain1997
      @lilpain1997 Před 9 měsíci

      @@hansip87 You do realise that OLED has been around for a very long time and LG entered the game to make them since 2010. They have had a lot of time to mature if you go with an LG one. Sure QD OLED is still new and more prone to burn it seems but if you want something and have the money for it then buy the damn thing. I wasn't waiting 2 to 3 years when the AW3423DW came out for more OLEDs to hit the market, and heck its still one of the best options to get if not the best at price to performance if you get the F variant. New tech is always coming out and you will never have the latest and greatest at all times. Sure if you do not need one right now and are hesitant then wait till you either need one or are not hesitant anymore. Oh and your comment about the HZ is weird seeing as you can get 240hz OLEDs for around the same price as 165/175hz??? They are all around the 700 to 2000 mark depending on what size you go with or if there is a gimmick attached.

    If you wait for the new monitors you’re going to have to pay through the nose or have to wait for a year or two before they become more affordable because there will be something “new” on the horizon that you might want.
    If you got the money now and want to enjoy it now then go for it. Good sales right that put most OLED monitors and TVs into “reasonable” price ranges.
    But if you just keep waiting and chasing features you’re never going to get anything that will “satisfy” you since once you buy something you’ll be outdated. Most importantly you miss out on actually enjoying what you have.

    I went ahead and got the Corsair Xeneon Flex on sale and have been very happy with it. I was originally holding out for a 32inch 4k oled next year but when I saw this panel in person it changed my mind. No regrets, the pixel density doesn't bother me like I thought it would, it's crisp, the lower resolution netted a large fps boost in games and the motion clarity is just great. My only complaint so far that you really need to keep it in hdr mode all the time to get the most out of it, SDR mode kind of gets washed out after the firmware update to boost brightness, but with hdr mode on it looks great.

      I have this monitor, I literally got one of the first copies and use it for playing Call of Duty. Use the Game mode and push the contrast all the way to 100% if you want a brighter screen. If you have an Nvidia control panel, you can also tweak the Gamma between 0.8 and 0.95. if you want to use HDR in something like Call of Duty then you have to get into the Nvidia control panel and push brightness, contrast and digital vibrance all over the place.
      This is a gaming monitor because it is unfortunately bad for everything else especially text because of the pixel density and oddball pixel structure.

    I don't understand why monitors 32" and above are mostly widescreen. Just, why?? Also, why are we stuck at 1440p for most of these? Is it a manufacturing problem where they can't reliably make monitors at 4k at sizes 32" and above?
    My Asus PG 42 UQ is excellent, and would be better only with a refresh above 144. Why don't we see something like that coming?
    FWIW, I avoid widescreen due to:
    1. Game support is still spotty at Widescreen res. It's been getting better though.
    2. You can't stream at widescreen res. You can't even downscale from Widescreen to 16:9 in software like OBS. You're just stuck not streaming or playing in a reduced res so you can stream.

    I do not recommend the Alienware 3423 DWF, which I have returned. I've purchased Dell monitors for 15 years, including early LCDs, and they always "cut corners." The DWF had no screen protection and the scuffs and scratches on the viewing surface was bothersome, but the largest issue was the incessant high pitched "whine" coming out of the thing from sitting distance that was like living in a room full of mosquitos. Studies now show that being subjected to abrasive and disruptive noises, for instance living under and airline route, for long periods of time has a negative impact on stress response, generalized anxiety, and sleep quality.
    The first 20" Ultrasharp LCD I bought actually got "burn in" out of the blue. Supreme Commander's HUD burned into the edges of the screen. Getting support from Dell was a nightmare. I've never had any screen, including my 16 year-old Plasma, have burn-in and it happened to a Dell LCD! Please don't reward Dell for cutting costs by putting in cheaper components or insufficient care. My current 25" Ultrasharp will be my last Dell (also has a whine, but not as audible from sitting distance as the DWF).

    Imo oled on monitors are not good enough for desktop use. The fringing around text and logoes are really distracting and the risk of burn in is a dealbreaker when working in 3D software. Hope they figure out an oled display that is as burn in resistant as a ips is

    Great video. Im waiting for a good 4K OLED with a glossy screen. That anti-glare coating kills image quality for me.

    I want a 38 inch ultra wide OLED. That would be the sweet spot in my opinon.

    I really need to make a personal effort to use affiliate links on youtube when there's something I want to buy. It's such an easy way to support great youtubers with no cost to yourself, why wouldn't you? Especially with expensive hardware purchases.

      Decent screen overall. The Dell AW3423WF would be our recommendation in that size though and is more affordable

    Dream monitor for me is a 32inch 4k glossy oled.
    And although there are at least two of those in the first half of next year, the raised-blacks qd-oled issue is making me hesitant. I don't want to always have to turn every light off to get those oled blacks.
    May end up going for the lg 27inch after all. It's down to £800 now.
    Decisions.....decisions.

      Im the same i really like the lg 27inch 1440p oled the matte display wont bother me but the glossy would make it 100% a purchase right now its 799€ black Friday D: I might bite the bullet and get it. I want the lg c2 42 but i think for fps valorant which is all i play it'll be too big and i have a rtx 3060 which will be fine for valorant at 4k 120hz. I just wish the 27inch was glossy

    • @thepadster123
      @thepadster123 Před 9 měsíci

      Yeah ditto, the C2 would be perfect for me were it not for its size.
      I'm going to wait for CES on Jan 9th where reviewers/youtubers will get a closer look at those qd-oleds. Perhaps they'll now have a polariser which would fix the blacks issue and make them absolute perfection. If not.............I'll buy that 27inch matte LG at whatever price it is in Jan and just make do. Good luck with whichever move you make!@@Blade.Runnerr

      @@thepadster123 the new 32inch 4k glossy looks nice but itll be double price and having to wait til the next black friday itll still be over 1k. I think ima bite the bullet and buy the LG 27 oled. I also feel for my rtx 3060 1440p is where it shines. Also theres a 30day return policy so i can try it out :)

      Raised black level, is a well known trade-off when using glossy coatings. It's because glossy coatings reflects any light in the room and this in turn affects the level of black that can be achieved on the panel. So, for optimum black level performance on a glossy screen, you would have to sit in total darkness! 😉

    • @thepadster123
      @thepadster123 Před 9 měsíci

      Yeah but it's the polariser. (Or lack of). This doesn't happen on phone oleds or LG oled tvs unless the light is very bright and very direct.
      With these qd-oleds it happens as soon as there's even moderate ambient light, even if indirect. There are a few videos on CZcams that talk about it but it's quite hard to see through a video.@@danieljrgensen133

    No interest in 1440P, must be 2160p at minimum !
