@@airixxxx Curve makes sense for a 32 inch which is almost as wide as a 34 Ultrawide. It feels way more natural. I prefer flat for 27 inch but curved for 32+ inch for sure. Most people think they don't like a curve but then gets used to it and then loves it. Curved = Less eyestrain and less eye movement but only makes sense on bigger displays when you sit close, like most do for PC.
While the Alienware model does have a fan, it is essentially silent. You have to get your ear right up against the back to hear it. Something this piece missed is that MSI will have three different 32" QD-OLED models. It's not clear to me what the full differences are, though.

For me, the HP Omen Transcend is the obvious choice if it does include DP 2.1. 3 year burn in warranty, Dolby Vision, KVM, glossy, flat. Everything I could want in a monitor of this size.
Honestly I'm a little torn by that price. I got the Alienware version of the monitor and while it's more expensive it's warranty specifically covers burn in. The MSI one doesnt

Really great to hear that you want to dive more into the perceived brightness with the panels increased colour gamut. I heard about eye-strain when using the new QD-OLED after 2-5 hours of use and would wish to know more about that and if this has to do with the colour blue (saw that LG advertises somewhat with "eye-friendly" display, but then again I think Samsung does that too).

The raised blacks are seriously not an issue as the amount of light required would also be a major issue on a WOLED due to glare, that’s what I say after owning one

at 4K or higher resolutions and 32inch or larger size, 16:9 is really not such an issue anymore. 16:10 vs 16:9 is a big thing for me too at 1920x1200 vs 1920x1080 and I'm sure people who stil have and use 2560x1600 monitors, but nowadays people like us are probably in a very small minority. That said, I would not mind seeing a 3840x2400 monitor or, better yet in a few years, 7680x4800 monitor capable of integer scaling of all the standard lower resolutions (funnily enough, both 16:10 and 16:9 !)....ok yeah, now I realize even more that 16:10 is net superior to 16:9. :)))

The only reason "main stream" users "prefer" 16:9 is because thats a)all they can buy and, b)all they told they should buy and, c) because they do very little with their displays like most mainstream anything users do. 4k and 32" still is annoying/frustrating and less ideal regardless. Its teh aspect ratio that is key not the resolution. I use 4k 16:9 32" displays already and its a dream coming back to my 30" 16:10 display (and also using a Surface thats of similar AR). i've put a bit of thought into the resolution issue you mention. I think 5120x2880 @ 34-36" would be a sweet spot for now. DP2.1 with 240Hz for clean 1440 scaling for "fun use" and 120Hz native resolution for everything else (can fit A2 at 1:1 scale). I'll have 4 right off the rip please manufacturers. lol
I was just yesterday wishing someone knowledgeable would have made this kind of summary video on the many choices available! Any chance you could include the Gen 3 QD-OLED on your black depth charts when you get a hold of one? Or at least verify if it's identical to Gen 2 in this respect.
kudos! this touches on everything relevant that is known so far. If you're looking to make an other video on these, what would help to estimate on what screens to wait or not wait for: using your general knowledge about these brands to predict what isn't known so far. For example if a brand has a habit of messing with colors to an extend you can't get an accurate picture, or known to badly implement e.g. Freesync2 in a way it limits brightness, or other known quirks that will deter some buyers. granted that is guessing, but I'm willing to trust a good guess since these monitors will release months apart.
HP's formal press release resources for the OMEN Transcend 32 UHD 240Hz OLED Gaming Monitor does specifically state DP 2.1, but it does not state what UHBR level is implemented. In the press releasae, there is a Resources button under the Omen Transcend 32 UHD 240Hz. It links out to the spec sheet showing DP 2.1 on the monitor, and an included DP 2.1 cable in the box.
Yes that’s the early spec sheet I was referencing. But they’ve been unable to confirm for me what UHBR speed is being used, if any. Right now I’m sceptical until they can answer what is a pretty simple tech question

I honestly don't see a mass market need for these monitors. While LCDs dont look great at 60 hz and feel choppy, 60hz on an OLED is perfectly acceptable. 120hz is damn near perfect. with games getting more and more demanding from both the CPU and GPU side with AI integration and path tracing, I think 4k 60hz will show itself as the preferred target. not because we cant run faster, but because there is so much more we want from our game, and 60hz OLED is fast enough
QD-OLED don't have higher burn-in risk unless you listen to LG or the flawed RTINGS test where software that hinders burn-in was not kicking in (firmware flaw). QD-OLED monitors generally have 3 years of burn in warrenty where LG WOLED only has 2 or 0. C2 is mediocre for HDR and PC usage. Barely hits 700 nits peak. Any decent OLED TV or monitor should be able to hit 1000 nits.
The LG seems like the winner to me with the higher brightness and 480hz mode. I've never had a screen with a glossy coating, Im not always playing games at night and can't always control light levels
People are saying it's a non issue for normal work related tasks / browsing when in a brightly lit room. If you want those inky blacks for gaming / media then just make sure there's no direct light in front of the display.
@@AhsanZafar Depends on your work environment and light preference. For 100% accurate colors you'd want to have as dark of a room as possible anyway. QD-OLED does have superior color accuracy and a noticeably higher color volume compared to W-OLED.
if HP and Gigabyte end up being the same price ranges of $1199 and under, they easily gonna win the year. Doubt Asus will do any magic and increase peak nits over 1000. and HIGHLY doubt they will offer a New OLED burn-in warranty out of no where. they probably would have said that at CES

I have a small theory that the special 'matte' coating of the Samsung OLED's may in fact be the same as is used on the new S24 Ultra, which could give it a substantial edge over the glossy panels. Time will tell, but if so, they could definitely be amongst the most 'usable'. This would be a really interesting trickle down from the mobile tech and definitely one to watch. As a side note, I wrote on a previous video that these monitors may be hobbled by DSC... I'm glad to hear this isn't the case, it's just they're extremely exciting! That said, the fact that the Alienware for instance cannot turn off DSC regardless of refresh rate is disappointing as it prevents the use of DLDSR. In a lot of older games that are frame capped around 120HZ, having DLDSR to push to 6K could be a really nice boost, so I hope that's unique to that monitor. It's a shame because I liked the curve. I'll definitely be picking one of these up once a good option is found out - probably the Asus or Odyssey if, as mentioned, that matte coating turns out to be much better than thought.

I have the AW3235QF after about 4 years using a G7, 1440p, 240hz….i didn’t think the upgrade would be that amazing and it friggen is. Also, its fan is silent, I cranked it in testing and heard nothing. I don’t know what else to say but buy it if you have the GPU power to run it; I have a 4090FE so it’s been fantastic and the main reason I made the jump….that and the fact that I prefer a curved screen, with glossy finish and at the 32” size (which my G7 was as well).
How much of an impact does wearing white clothing have on the picture quality of a glossy QD OLED since it essentially turns you into a "light source"?
QD-OLED really hurts my eyes... WOLED have a thick matte coating... I guess I will just buy the 42 c3 since it has fallen in price to below 1k with tax in my country. No way am I waiting another 2 years for them to sort their shit out and just make a good product with a reasonable price. Anything more than 1k is ridiculous for a monitor, I bet there will be a lot of problems with this 1st gen as usual. Beta test on customers mentality will propably be in full effect.

Given the reviews that are showing up on LG's site, I'd wait for a firmware update before giving it any real review. It appears that the HDR/local dimming is majorly messed up right now.
They are beautfiul the the AW warranty is simply unbeatable. Unless you dont care about warranty and money, its just top dog. Sadly though a 4090 still wont come close to pushing this to 240 fps if you ramp the quality and details to max. Hell even the 27 1440p oled version at 360 hz is not driveable. Again same thing. Im not even sure a 5080 will sustain that type of fps. And yes i get it.....lower end games or turning down alot of quality can surely obtain the desired fps. But again. The point of a monitor that looks this good and can perform this fast is using it. And we might be waiting for the 6000 series for 4k 240 or 2k 360 hz to be the norm. Great Vid.I would love to see an Alternative to Oled video. Just for those that dont want AW and are not interested in burn in risk. I gotta think MiniLed and MicroLed will be a thing soon.
The 32" OLED is the first display I though a slight curve might be good, though I am not sure I want to go with the Alienware/Dell version since it seems to be one of the rare ones using active cooling. Also just not a huge fan of Alienware from back in the pre-Dell days.
The fan is pretty silent this time, and Dell has the best warrenty so far, if the curve isn't a deal breaker for you like the rest of us just go for it.
The slight curve I could take or leave, but I can confirm the fan really is silent which surprised me unless maybe it goes bad or you have a very hot room
I think you missed talking about the nits! which is a big deal I have the Alienware 3423dwf which is in a brighter room and at 1000nit peaks it seems super dull. I think the ASUS QD one is saying it will be 1300 peak nits. But I'm really thinking about switching to the W-oled with the matte finish due to the area in which my computer is. I know some people aren't talking about nits due to needing to test to see if the claims are true as well. Just a thought great video!
One thing really dissapointing about the asus monitor is that power delievery stops hdr and usb fuctions. I don't understand why this should be the case as the dell monitors that I use don't have this problem. On their website "**90 W Power Delivery only available when HDR and USB functions are disabled." this is really a critical weakness in the product.

It would only be of value if you had content that was mastered in that format. Streaming TV apps like Netflix support it for instance, although you'd probably need an external streaming stick for that as it doesn't work from the PC app. some games on consoles also support it too. Consider more of a feature for external media devices, rather than anything from your PC

All the 360Hz 27” models are QD-OLED with standard semi glossy coating apart from the Samsung model where they’ve added a matte coating. Same situation as the 32” versions basically

As usual, great video! As much as I want an OLED monitor now/sooner than later, I feel like I need to wait for the LG 45" UW OLED coming Q4. The thought of converting back to a 16:9 32" sounds partially plausible in my head, but I just don't know if I can do it. The other thought is to get the PG42UQ OLED, as owners on Reddit have stated the V40 firmware has fixed HDR and the standby issue. I wonder if ASUS will update it with the new WOLED subpixel layout and MLA...🤔
Windowed mode borderless and custom resolutions exist. Also, for burnin it is recommended to actually not use less than the full screen by other brands.

Only because they’re rarely of much use on monitors as they tend to be very small/weak. Did mention them for the HP and LG models where there’s been some focus on sound quality of note

The Asus is the one I'm waiting on. I've owned the Alienware AW3423DW for about 2 years now and it's been great just want to try out the 4k, 32 inch flat screen and the higher refresh rate.
I've heard the raised blacks on QD-OLED panels also tint the screen magenta. If that's the case, how much does this affect the color accuracy in a brighter room?
I heard it just makes black look more of a really dark gray than true black and it takes away from the contrast a bit so if you have a super bright room or setup it may be better with a woled
Heard... Hahaha. You both have zero experience with QD-OLED I see. QD-OLED is the best panel tech right now and probably won't change anytime soon since WOLED even with MLA is way behind on colors and overall image quality. LCD is completely crap in comparison to both QD-OLED and WOLED.
@@Dr.WhetFartsSeems like you're the one that's behind. QD-OLED has more saturated colors, but contrast absolutely goes out the door if you don't live in a dark basement. Some regular people may want to use their expensive monitor during the day without the curtains closed.
Why don't you think anyone is using a polarizer? DFR is what I'm looking forward to reviews of (for a mix of modern AA and older (90s or early 2000) games that will take advantage of 4k on the modern and 1080p on those older ones.

It's curved, so it's good for almost nothing. Putting a a curved panel on 16:9 monitors should be forbidden.

People are saying it's a non issue for normal work related tasks / browsing when in a brightly lit room.
If you want those inky blacks for gaming / media then just make sure there's no direct light in front of the display.

@@AhsanZafar Depends on your work environment and light preference. For 100% accurate colors you'd want to have as dark of a room as possible anyway. QD-OLED does have superior color accuracy and a noticeably higher color volume compared to W-OLED.
The best TV on the market is QD and it's not even close, so of course it's a non-issue.

if HP and Gigabyte end up being the same price ranges of $1199 and under, they easily gonna win the year. Doubt Asus will do any magic and increase peak nits over 1000. and HIGHLY doubt they will offer a New OLED burn-in warranty out of no where. they probably would have said that at CES
Asus managed to increase the brightness last year on the 27" models. They could have a trick up their sleeve this year as well.

They also said at CES "it's shipping this month" so something seriously went wrong. And I doubt it's "shipping". As the AQDM was a nightmare PoS last year when it came out with awful FW AFTER they already delayed it bc of a previous awful FW

I have a small theory that the special 'matte' coating of the Samsung OLED's may in fact be the same as is used on the new S24 Ultra, which could give it a substantial edge over the glossy panels. Time will tell, but if so, they could definitely be amongst the most 'usable'. This would be a really interesting trickle down from the mobile tech and definitely one to watch.
As a side note, I wrote on a previous video that these monitors may be hobbled by DSC... I'm glad to hear this isn't the case, it's just they're extremely exciting!
That said, the fact that the Alienware for instance cannot turn off DSC regardless of refresh rate is disappointing as it prevents the use of DLDSR. In a lot of older games that are frame capped around 120HZ, having DLDSR to push to 6K could be a really nice boost, so I hope that's unique to that monitor. It's a shame because I liked the curve.
I'll definitely be picking one of these up once a good option is found out - probably the Asus or Odyssey if, as mentioned, that matte coating turns out to be much better than thought.

On the QD-OLED versions I would say it’s now basically the same as an LCD and very very hard to see any difference. The WOLED options remain to be tested when they’re released later in the year

I have the AW3235QF after about 4 years using a G7, 1440p, 240hz….i didn’t think the upgrade would be that amazing and it friggen is. Also, its fan is silent, I cranked it in testing and heard nothing. I don’t know what else to say but buy it if you have the GPU power to run it; I have a 4090FE so it’s been fantastic and the main reason I made the jump….that and the fact that I prefer a curved screen, with glossy finish and at the 32” size (which my G7 was as well).
How much of an impact does wearing white clothing have on the picture quality of a glossy QD OLED since it essentially turns you into a "light source"?

QD-OLED really hurts my eyes... WOLED have a thick matte coating... I guess I will just buy the 42 c3 since it has fallen in price to below 1k with tax in my country.
No way am I waiting another 2 years for them to sort their shit out and just make a good product with a reasonable price. Anything more than 1k is ridiculous for a monitor, I bet there will be a lot of problems with this 1st gen as usual. Beta test on customers mentality will propably be in full effect.
Actual Glas panel + glossy will be the best
I really wish we could get some of the 4K OLEDs down in the 27-28 inch range. A 32 inch display is just too big for my workspace.

Given the reviews that are showing up on LG's site, I'd wait for a firmware update before giving it any real review. It appears that the HDR/local dimming is majorly messed up right now.

They are beautfiul the the AW warranty is simply unbeatable. Unless you dont care about warranty and money, its just top dog. Sadly though a 4090 still wont come close to pushing this to 240 fps if you ramp the quality and details to max. Hell even the 27 1440p oled version at 360 hz is not driveable. Again same thing. Im not even sure a 5080 will sustain that type of fps.
And yes i get it.....lower end games or turning down alot of quality can surely obtain the desired fps. But again. The point of a monitor that looks this good and can perform this fast is using it. And we might be waiting for the 6000 series for 4k 240 or 2k 360 hz to be the norm.

The 32" OLED is the first display I though a slight curve might be good, though I am not sure I want to go with the Alienware/Dell version since it seems to be one of the rare ones using active cooling. Also just not a huge fan of Alienware from back in the pre-Dell days.
Dell/AW is still a horrible company but it seems like the monitor team is quite independent.
The fan is pretty silent this time, and Dell has the best warrenty so far, if the curve isn't a deal breaker for you like the rest of us just go for it.
The slight curve I could take or leave, but I can confirm the fan really is silent which surprised me unless maybe it goes bad or you have a very hot room
I think you missed talking about the nits! which is a big deal I have the Alienware 3423dwf which is in a brighter room and at 1000nit peaks it seems super dull. I think the ASUS QD one is saying it will be 1300 peak nits. But I'm really thinking about switching to the W-oled with the matte finish due to the area in which my computer is. I know some people aren't talking about nits due to needing to test to see if the claims are true as well. Just a thought great video!
One thing really dissapointing about the asus monitor is that power delievery stops hdr and usb fuctions. I don't understand why this should be the case as the dell monitors that I use don't have this problem. On their website "**90 W Power Delivery only available when HDR and USB functions are disabled." this is really a critical weakness in the product.

No, the OLED should still outperform the IPS in black depth (assuming it’s a normal IPs and not mini LED backlit or something). More info here

It’s very tricky to answer as there’s pros and cons of each as the video covers. I think on balance right now my preference personally would be a QD OLED panel.

is Dolby Vision HDR matter? if they game doesn't have Dolby Vision, it's useless right? is it there just for movie watching?
It would only be of value if you had content that was mastered in that format. Streaming TV apps like Netflix support it for instance, although you'd probably need an external streaming stick for that as it doesn't work from the PC app. some games on consoles also support it too. Consider more of a feature for external media devices, rather than anything from your PC
Think I’ll wait for them 4k ultrawides in 2025. Monster Hunter Wilds should look spectacular on one of those.

WOLED gets brighter but with the white oled, colors wash out which defeats the purpose of getting bright in HDR altogether.

All the 360Hz 27” models are QD-OLED with standard semi glossy coating apart from the Samsung model where they’ve added a matte coating. Same situation as the 32” versions basically

Agreed although in the context of these OLED screens (apart from the exceptions cited), they do have the same coating across the different panels.

As usual, great video! As much as I want an OLED monitor now/sooner than later, I feel like I need to wait for the LG 45" UW OLED coming Q4. The thought of converting back to a 16:9 32" sounds partially plausible in my head, but I just don't know if I can do it. The other thought is to get the PG42UQ OLED, as owners on Reddit have stated the V40 firmware has fixed HDR and the standby issue. I wonder if ASUS will update it with the new WOLED subpixel layout and MLA...🤔

Windowed mode borderless and custom resolutions exist. Also, for burnin it is recommended to actually not use less than the full screen by other brands.

Only because they’re rarely of much use on monitors as they tend to be very small/weak. Did mention them for the HP and LG models where there’s been some focus on sound quality of note

The Asus is the one I'm waiting on. I've owned the Alienware AW3423DW for about 2 years now and it's been great just want to try out the 4k, 32 inch flat screen and the higher refresh rate.

I've heard the raised blacks on QD-OLED panels also tint the screen magenta. If that's the case, how much does this affect the color accuracy in a brighter room?
I heard it just makes black look more of a really dark gray than true black and it takes away from the contrast a bit so if you have a super bright room or setup it may be better with a woled
Heard... Hahaha. You both have zero experience with QD-OLED I see. QD-OLED is the best panel tech right now and probably won't change anytime soon since WOLED even with MLA is way behind on colors and overall image quality. LCD is completely crap in comparison to both QD-OLED and WOLED.
@@Dr.WhetFartsSeems like you're the one that's behind. QD-OLED has more saturated colors, but contrast absolutely goes out the door if you don't live in a dark basement. Some regular people may want to use their expensive monitor during the day without the curtains closed.

I returned the aw3423dwf and got the 4k 32. Best decision, 4k looks insane. I miss the ultrawide but the 4k’s too hard to pass up

Why don't you think anyone is using a polarizer? DFR is what I'm looking forward to reviews of (for a mix of modern AA and older (90s or early 2000) games that will take advantage of 4k on the modern and 1080p on those older ones.
