About the suction cup mounts. I have the Uniden R7 (actually I have 2 of them) and I use the big single suction cup mount. 1) Clean the spot on the windshield where you are going to mount it even if it looks clean, clean it anyways. 2) install the suction cups in the summer on a hot day after the car has been sitting in the sun all day with the windows up. By doing this I have yet to have one fall off my windshield. For the people that are wondering why this works. Hot air molecules are bigger Cold air molecules are smaller Install the suction cups when the molecules are at their biggest. Then in the winter those molecules will shrink and create even more suction.

But when you combine it with the Drivesmarter app, especially using it as a map in Apple CarPlay it is absolutely horrible. Their software people haven’t figured out how to orient the Drivesmarter app in Apple CarPlay in the direction of travel. If their software in the app is that bad, I don’t have faith that their radar detector software is any better. Shocked you don’t even address this in any of your reviews.

I know this is an old posting, but I am new to this. I live in a rural community, and I run both Waze and an R3 and a Rad 700 but I do have a R4 on order now. The rural community I live in has a low crime rate and the Police have too much time to write tickets and they do. Now my R3 does an excellent job in my town but Waze is almost useless unless I am travelling because nobody else here in my town uses it. The only alerts I get are my own unless I am travelling out of town.

I use to use an blend mount type with my R8, but have went to the double sided tape windshield permanent mount over my tint visor for the past year and have had no problems with it in the Louisiana heat. It also hides it better and gives me a better field of view.

I have Uniden R7 with th latest firmware installed. I installed it on my rearview mirror. I have passed CHPs and Police crusiers in city and Radar doesn't detect their KA band till I'm able to see them across the street. It looks like whatever they using is blocking my radar from detecting them early. Radar goes off with almost full signal when its able to detect. If its like that, then its waste of money having an expensive detector ! Need to know if all R7s like this or if its just mine

I dislike Drive Smarter. All alerts of other detectors being hit have been untrue for me, completely. I use Waze and like it.

These folks gonna be all surprised pikachu face when they get told they have fried their ECU/BCM and everything else on the CAN network. All due to their poorly made clone cam drawing more amperage than the circuit was ever designed for. Use a proper relay kit supplying direct battery voltage off a switched 12v power source.

It doesn't overheat if you position it right. These reasons are not practical and some are silly.

Been using blendmount for years now on all our cars, this thing is a much have.

I have the power for my Uniden7 and 8 ran under the headliner to the rear view mirror and bought an adhesive mount suggested through the RD Forums (no more suction cup fails). The original adhesive didn't last so I bought a high temp adhesive tape and reinstalled - works great! Thanks for all of your vids and fixes! :)

I am looking for the best radar under $400. I am stuck between the new Whistler Titan, and the new Rodenso DS1. which one would you personally pick? or are there other radars that beat both of them?

It’s pretty typical for Uniden not to work properly, what’s worse there is no one or any place to contact them for answers, it’s the same way with there scanners. Basically it’s take it or leave it with Uniden, it’s too bad but that’s the way it has been with Uniden for a long time! Your are one of there biggest fans what say you Vortex?

I have an old Beltran onyx radar detector that I paid over $400 20 years ago at circuit city of all places. Would I be able to ship it to them to have it updated? After all, it was very expensive and I actually have the original receipt and box.

The A229 Plus bundles in Amazon just shows 1 hardwiring kit. Will I need a separate wiring kit for the rear camera? Thanks.
