Very informative. Having an interview with the developer/engineer removes all the marketing BS and betters helps me decide if the product is right for me.

Kinda crazy this is all about image quality but shot on 240p webcams
The Zoom video we used for our conversation records at only 720p, and then I had to zoom in beyond that lol. The dashcam footage itself though and all the B roll is native resolution including 1080p, 2K, and 4K. It's just our faces that are low res. :)
Great video. I just bought the 2K model and began using it - so far so good. I recommend this video to anyone who just bought one.
Great job Ariel! I was sad to hear they're only using a 2-wire power method and that this product line is not compatible with dash camera battery packs due to their need to monitor the vehicle voltage levels.
Yeah it seems almost perfect to me but I would like the option to use battery packs in some way.

I wish dashcams would offer an "armed" wire to put them into parking mode when you've locked the vehicle/armed your alarm. I've always had issues with triggering impacts when opening my door/trucks toolbox in bed.
Another cool trigger wire could be a horn connection. Used to start a manual event recording when driving (since that's usually people's instant reaction to do in accident or close calls), or use it to trigger a parking mode recording based off of an oem/aftermarket alarm when parked and armed.
There are scenarios where my alarm can be triggered without triggering parking mode recordings.
Hopefully the new Drone dashcam will solve these issues. I'm excited to try it out with my Compustar CMX alarm!
Yes, I have the same problem when opening the door. While it's nice for the motion detection to work in case something happens when you are unlocking the doors, the notification should not be sent. I don't know if this would be possible using Bluetooth, I mean, to detect the distance as seen with smart tags.
a couple of things bother me about this product...one of the big ones is most manufactureres of dashcams make it easy to transfer the unit from one car to another either with a suction mount ot an extra mount to which the unit can mate. When I contacted Nextbase and asked when the extra mounts would be available, I was told likely after the first of the year but I have seen nothing about that. When I last contacted them, I got a reply asking WHY would I want an extra mount. Well several scenarias come to mind. If I drive different vehicles based on the situation, it would be nice to be able to move the unit from one car to another rather than have to buy two of these expensive units and pay for two subscriptions. Also, what if I am renting a car and want the ability to have the same safeguards as when it is installed in my own vehicle. Since they went to the trouble of making the wiring simple, ie the OBD port, can't they go the extra distance and give us the option of moving it from one car to another without doubling the cost?

Great interview Ariel, thank you. Is a hands on review coming for this? It sounds great on paper but based from reviews it seems real world application of most of the features is leaving a lot to be desired. Also interested in video quality of iq 4k vs viofo a229 pro
Eventually I'd like to test it, yeah, though right now I've got a bunch of dashcams on hand that I still need to do reviews on first, heh. From the other reviews I've seen, I've also seen a number of issues with this model so hopefully it gets better soon.
I have the 4K version, and had nothing but hassle with it. This product, although released, is far from perfected stages. Vodafone Signal constantly dropping out. There’s been incidents recorded, from future dates, that have not even occured yet. I’ve had hassle retreiving footage, from the memory card via the app. Footage from road trips has gone missing. Anybody looking to purchase one? I would hold fire. There’s a subscription we are paying for, and not all the promised features are available yet. And to mention, I’m already on a replacement camera from Halfords. The idea behind it, is very good whilst working. But it’s far from a 100% for that price.
Great interview! This is very interesting hitting the right questions I'm liking what I'm hearing. Road watch sounds awesome more proof to hope yourself & others out. It sucks it doesn't go in extremely low power mode when it gets too hot like the u3000 so i gotta remember that. 4:40 good point there. The radar talk is very good . I do hope for the battery pack we don't have to go the u3000 route where you need a different cable to get parking mode casue that's annoying. I'm liking the cloud stuff essentially the notifications to other contacts glad this comes with lte unlike the 3000 where you need a 3rd party hotspot they should've just copied blackvue with the cm100.
I have the Blackvue 900 with CM100 LTE unit and had added a data SIM card to it for $10/month. However, I was very disappointed in Blackvue's performance, especially remote monitoring. They actually sent me a replacement unit but it did the same thing so I think its in the software. It kind or reminds me of this IQ; sounds great on paper but the reality is more aggravation than worth it. I am hoping I am wrong about the IQ though as I would love to replace the Blackvue with this solution. Just concerned about some of the negative reviews on the IQ not being fully developed yet.
@@panzer948agree owning the 900x plus before getting the u3000 I was expecting more them especially how praise they are for the cloud features doesn't help almost every update they take 1 step forward 2 back
@CaptainCJ97 good to hear back. I have an update to share as well. I bit the bullet and purchased the IQ last week and so far I am pretty happy with it. Seems to work when it should (unlike the Blackvue), although I am still trying to figure out the notifications and yes what they say is true about setup and how awkward it is to line up with a delayed live view... but the live view does improve greatly with firmware updates.
What's your take on the parking mode power solution compared to e.g. Blackvue? Based on this video it does sound great, even weeks of parking mode power in ultra low consumption mode, but still with cloud and live view capability.
5 days parked up over xmas, and mine shut down. It won’t give you weeks in parking mode.
Uh.... -10 what? Celsius or Fahrenheit? Like, as someone who lives where -10c is routinely considered a warm winter day, cold weather performance is a legitimate concern.

Consumer Reports Feb 25/24 just gave Nextbase 622GW 4K Dash Cam EDITOR CHOICE. "The Nextbase produced the best image of any of the dash cams evaluated, by a long shot."
So Ariel you are definitely on to something.
Interesting. The image quality from the video samples they sent me (used in this video) and the customer samples that I’ve seen on CZcams looked surprisingly bad, but to each their own.

I think they should have use internal battery instead of capacitor.
Why? That’s both unsafe and unnecessary.

We discussed this in the video. Internal batteries are tiny and unsafe in high heat. External batteries are a better solution.
It's GARBAGE! I bought one and it SUCKS! Buy the RING CAR CAM instead.

really bad camera full of bugs , consistently going wrong and unreliable . Don't buy it ...

@@VortexRadar first of all the rear camera didn't work at all ... then they released a software update , after the software update the rear camera was still patching , in fact all three cameras started to up, the QI UNIT would also quite often shut down completely saying vehicle battery was flat when it was not , and the LTE connection issues were trying to view the camera via app . no Wi-Fi option on the camera is a massive mistake as you can only download via through Internet when it was working , and lots of other system bugs. after six weeks I gave up and returned it ...
Potentially the camera has got Great future but not right now it's still has a lot of issues going on which need ironing out I feel, they have released it way too early ... ( today's date 10th feb 2024) my advice would be specially anyone who lives in the UK will be to wait at least 6 months for them to sort the issues out ...
Yikes! Yeah I’ve been hearing lots of complaints from owners. Disappointing given all the cool ideas they’re going for. 🤷
@@VortexRadar i'm quite confident they will get all the problems sorted out , I've been a big fan of nextbase for many years . give them time and I'm sure it will be number one product in a few months . I certainly will be purchasing One once I've sorted out the problems .
