I see a store called Boogie Records??? I’m in!!! Holy Billy Joel!!! Great Jade Warrior. If I’m ever that way ( again ) will stop by. Awesome Steve! 🎉
Would of snagged that Penetration record, never see that around..
Cool little store, Professor! Looks very homey...and I was drooling at some of the classic 12" singles they had on the wall...interesting stuff in the bins, too....I think I'd enjoy looking around there for sure...have a good weekend, sir!
‘are we done?’, ‘can we go now?’ 😂 that is so familiar to me 😂 god bless the ladies! 😂 Vinyl Richie is a national treasure like you Steve 😁 I should have picked up Hits are for Squares. Mike
I must say that you do find some wonderful record stores Steve. They had a section for ‘Bad News’ fantastic! Pre-Spinal Tap spoofers, hysterical 😂 That was some Zappa wall! Great store. Mike (thewanabee)
Hey Steve! Cool store! Back in ‘86 I lived close to Boogie Records in Kalamazoo so close I could walk over I would have snatched up the Birth Control album 😂 I have both those albums you picked up cool music bummer about the misinformation on pressings Take care Brian ☮️
I worked in mining in Eastern Nevada back in 2012.. Two seasons ( years ). Hard work, and good money. Did you say Nederland, Co. ? Dan Fogleberg named an album after that town. I just looked it up.. The miners would call it the " Netherlands" like Dans record 😊
Looked like a pretty cool store, thanks for sharing
I am convinced you ran out of stores in your old stumping grounds. The feeling you get when you find a store. I relate.
Ironic a Colorado mountain mining town being named after Europe’s flattest country. So flat parts of it below sea-level. Who says the Dutch arent funny? The Germans… who, arguably, aren’t. Nederland is also what we Scandinavians say, when we don’t say Holland (which the dutch don’t want anyone to say anymore, as it just one of the counties in the Netherlands) Great little shop there Steve. Amazing a town of 1400 people can sustain it, but you get enough passers through trying to find something to spend money on…
That Bad News lp cover will haunt my dreams. That Jade Warrior album is a good album, probably my fave by them, tho they have other good ones. Frozen Dead Guys Day used to be celebrated up in Nederland until 2023. Coffin races, a hearse parade, and "Frozen Dead Guy" lookalike contests were held. Just the typical dead guy stuff.
I have never heard of Neverland, CO. A pink t-shirt is pretty cool, though I think I could not pull off that colour 🙂Nice scores!
I would contact that record store and tell them I was going to return them the next time I'm there, as they've been missold. If you're going to charge a premium, you really should be 100% certain of what you're selling. There's no excuse imo.
i would have snagged that FINCH lp at the beginning of the vid. good instrumental prog like 73 era yes.
Bummer on the misinformation about the pressings. Interesting record store. At least you had a fun day out with your family.
Reggae section looking thin but some interesting stuff...never actually seen any Living Colour on vinyl...neither Jade Warrior or Lucifer's Friend to the best of my recollection...lots of Zappa and 80's classics on the wall...cheers Steve
Hello Steve; Like the T-shirt the wife will love that one! We inform store owners whenever they're is a question concerning import or original pressings. In the 80's more so than in other decades records were imported & reproduced in the US. These were known as counterfeit imports, marketing designed to cut down on the expense of sending actual records to the US. Too bad the owner was unaware or did not care about the authenticity of the records. Take care, Tina & Pat~!
Looks like my kind of place. I only went as far as Aurora but still found some gems at the Arc Thrift Store. Didn't find the King of Travel, though LOL!
Next time give me advance notice and I will buy breakfast or lunch or dinner! I know I can find some weird place to take you to. Your score was impressive
Lots of cool albums there! Sad he said those albums are European presses. Yeah, trying to squeeze more money out.
Yeah it was Michael. I have too much in discogs so it tends to be slow on my phone so I don’t bother using it usually. At least I got a swirl!
3:22 - Hi Steve ! The Associates / Sulk my favorite album of 1982. Usually pretty affordable & worth picking up ( Especially the Import version ) Billy MacKenzie had an amazing voice.
No kidding, your favorite from 82, that is saying a lot David. They did have some interesting items and the town was packed with tourist
Nice scores! Cool shop, I liked that Krautrock section. Funny to see all those Zappa bootlegs on the wall.
I thought of you Michael when I saw them. I figured you would appreciate it. It was a nice Krautrock section, something I don’t know much about but I know many of you do so might as well flip through and see what I missed out on!
I remember going to a free mining museum in Nevada when I was a kid. I don’t think I would go to one now.
They had so many people working there or volunteering there that I came out so much wiser on mining lol. Now to apply it to my life , well I did learn tungsten is very heavy!
Reminds me of uncle eds in middle of nowhere chsse mi
OMG, I did a video on Uncle Ed’s. lol. I couldn’t believe this record store was truly in the middle of nowhere. That was just crazy but they were happy and seemed to be doing well.
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 yes i visited that place after seeing your video! I have seen him at some record shows as well
That is fantastic. #1 reason I do these is to call attention to especially the little stores. The one in Chase still makes me laugh. I figured my GPS had to be broken lol
Nederland very close to the old Caribou Ranch recording studios. Joe Walsh, Elton, Chicago, Glenn Frey and tons more!
Steve, your family is looking out for you and pointing out record stores you might have missed. Boogie is a great name! Super organized. Does he label every artist? Hate you overpaid, sounds like he needs to spend some time on discogs to figure out dead wax. Peace ☮️ Namaste 🙏 the Zonkman
My problem is I don’t spend time at the record store checking the Deadwax on discogs. I have so much in discogs it takes forever to load. Not the first time Steve that has happened
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 Steve, I have problems when I pull up discogs in the record store my info can be limited on the phone. Biggest problem is price copies are on sell for. I’ll see 30$ for the lowest price & it’s 35$ on the copy in my hand. When I get home I look again, the cheap copies for sale are all overseas. Cheapest price in the US is 65$. That’s my regret because I talked myself out of buying it. And just for clarification I was referring the store owner needs to get better at understanding deadwax. Still ok looking store. I’d probably find some 5 or 10$ records to put in the collection. Peace ✌️
5 to 10 💰 albums - all day long 😊. I see that Lucifers Friend group on the VC but I'm not familiar. Looking forward to your take. FIFO 🎉.
Those bins were filled with lower priced records. That was his sweet spot Greg. I of course have to spend more, why get a bargain when I can spend more lol. Lucifer’s Friend is a blue print for heavy metal music
You mentioned The Dandy Warhols cover of The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald and you said "that can be a train wreck"...you should have said "shipwreck",,,just sayin' 😀
lol, well done, yes, shipwreck would have been the proper word haha
Hi Steve a cracking Ella and Basie lp nice. The two guitars will be a fab lp and always fela.
George, I do enjoy Louis Armstrong but when rebuilding the collection I passed on those older albums to concentrate on some newer music Now I have to keep looking at purges to make room George
Another great Sunday show Steve, l might have to buy that Angry Samoans album. Great concert footage and a new band to check out. Nice needle drop 😂 let he who hasn't played a record at the wrong speed cast the first stone... Take care. Mike
Yeah, funny when the needle drop doesn’t sound that bad at the wrong speed lol. Angry Samoans put out a lot of album but their debut is considered the classic to get. I was pretty excited to finally get an OG of it. Always nice to add another important punk album Mike
Blushing sounds interesting. I'm going to have to check out Hermanos Gutierrez. I like a band with an interesting back story. I've never heard of the Angry Samoans (except when they lose a rugby match! 🤣), but the sample was interesting. Proper 70s punk. Miranda Lambert I liked. Great eclectic mix, Steve. Cheers
Samoans don’t like to lose in rugby! American Football has been recruiting a lot of Samoan rugby players. I am a big fan of Blushing, Shoegaze, dreampop type music. Lambert tells great stories something I appreciate with some county music. I also like it with an edge which it does have Andy
Great opening Steve. Cool concert footage. It seemed like her voice was buried in the mix. Doggystyle and The Chronic were mainstays in my cars CD player for years. Fela sounded great as always! Ella and Louis - Spectacular sounding reissue. Of course, two of the finest jazz artists of all time. Awesome VCLT.
Mark, slo Mo fireworks are always fun! Even on the Blushing album the vocals are buried, part of that Shoegaze / dreampop type feel to the music. Huge thanks on Fela, Sufferhead is such a classic song of his, wonderful to have that. Lately they have had a lot of reissues of that late 80s / early 90s rap. I just fell out of it by the mid 90s. Like any genre it kept changing to keep up with the tastes of the time
Hi Steve! I've always liked that Angry Samoans cover. Congrats on scoring an OG! I enjoyed the concert clips from the previous video. Blushing is definitely a band that I need to check out - love that sound. And that Bjork vinyl... really nice looking! I really don't get into her sound, though (except, for some reason, I dig Army of Me). Thanks for sharing!
Bjork is real hit and miss for me Dave. I have a few albums I really love and some I just don’t get. Blushing has a very cool sound and their newest album rocks more than their previous few. Angry Samoans was great to get, it’s been an album I had wanted for years. It worked out well for me Dave
Hey Steve! So glad the 4th has come and gone. Our dog has a tough time with it, she seeks shelter in a bathroom, under my desk, or in the basement. Loved the look of that 12" single!
Our cat use to find a hiding place also News was all about where are the police to stop the illegal fireworks. There reply is how do you know who to ticket if you don’t actually see who shot them off. That 12 inch was beautiful but it did affect the sound, I do want to seek out the actual album. Leave it to Bjork to create something a little different
Hey Steve! I checked out their web site with the hopes of buying a t-shirt, but looks like they don't do any online sales. Strange. Oh well, still enjoyed the tour. Cheers!
Isn’t that odd Steve, in this day of age you would figure everyone would do on line sales.
I love Miranda Lambert, well as usual you showed some nice interesting music but some of the album covers were dumb
Lambert has a great voice, better at 45 rpm lol but she always has some great stories. Totally agree about album covers, some were quite strange
Angry Samoans is my favorite of this grouping. Next would be your Fela album.. Have a good week, Steve ! 🎵
JT, you hard core punker. I figured the guitar album would have grabbed you since you’re a guitarist. Hope you have been well and are having a good summer. Keep an eye on those forest fires
Doing well, thank you, Steve ! Angry Samians was the one for me. So far.. No smoke, knock on wood ! No.joke, just keeping fingers crossed !
Been into Tuxedomoon a long time and have a couple of their records, they were on The Resident's label Ralph Records and a couple of the guys guested on Snakefinger's records. But why do you call them "Tuxedo-doo"?
OMG Bill, my brain was locked on doom over moon. The album is in front of me and I didn’t get it right. I just get going and then all hell breaks lose. Let’s just call it another typical Sunday Morning Show lol. Chris Kibler also mentioned the Residents and the Ralph label. I know the Residents but never have had one of their records. Do you have any albums you would recommend by them, Tuxedomoon, not Tuxedodoom lol
Sonido Cosmico definitely has me intrigued. Most certainly am going to stream this one a few more times. But found all your sharing choices to be interesting. Well minus the country one. Didn’t care for that so much and still cant bring myself to listen to Country music for some reason. Though that said I once worked on a film called Pure Country starring George Strait. He recorded all the songs on the soundtrack of that film. Perhaps it grew on me from working on the film for months and months. But I actually used to play that soundtrack in my car while working on the film and knew all the lyrics front to back. So who knows. Maybe there is still a chance that a Country artist can light that spark someday. Thanks for the terrific video Mr. Carlson.
lol, you may be a closet country fan. I mean George Strait is pretty pure country. I have been picking up a few more country albums as I try to experiment with some of it. The Sonido album is a fun relaxing visit. Stream their previous album, El Bueno y El Malo. This has a real cool spaghetti westerns vibe to it. Are you working on any sets now or do you have a little down time? Always a pleasure to hear from you
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 I’ve hung up my punk playing days and now I mainly play flamenco guitar. Or try to might be more accurate. So I will definitely stream their previous album. I really love their style. And Spaghetti Westerns are my favorite films so how can it not be in my wheelhouse. Taking some time off from Post Production Sound on films and working on writing my first screenplay. So having fun with that at the moment. Thanks for the recommendation on EL Bueno y El Malo. And I assure you the pleasure is all mine. Have a terrific day Mr. Carlson. …..P.S. Dont you dare go getting me into country music with your needle drops.
Hello Steve! If you haven't already picked up the previous Gutierrez a couple of years ago, I highly recommend it! Leans a little closer to spaghetti western sounds. Great vibe! Nice pick ups!
I did pick up that Guitarezz album from a couple years ago, I became a fan. I have not gone further back into their catalog especially to their Latin stage I will say I think I liked the previous album a little more because to your point it really did have that spaghetti westerns vibe. Good stuff Tony. Thanks for watching and commenting
Steve, interesting! I have that Tuxedomoon (NOT Tuxedo-Doom). Not something that I would associate with you. I was introduced to Tuxedomoon around the time I discovered the Residents and Ralph Records. Thanks, Chris
Chris, when my brain picks up on something like doom vs moon it won’t let go. I maybe need to record later in the morning lol. I believe someone sent me the album. I’m open to try anything. I would buy some thing else from them if I saw it and it didn’t cost me a kidney !
You may be onto something with Miranda Lambert. She could become two artists (a chick and a guy) and double her income. A little duct tape and a handlebar mustache and she's laughing all the way to the bank. I'm sending you a female country singer from New Zealand. She was featured in a New Zealand mystery series and she just caught my ear.
Darrell, you cost me some money. The New Zealand singer was awesome especially her rockabilly stuff. Great idea for Miranda lol. I was just playing that album and kept wondering when she would come in and start singling lol. Obviously I was not familiar with the songs!
Hi Steve - Hermanos Gutierrez sounded great, quite cinematic, I'll look into them. I've heard of Tuxedomoon but never heard them - interesting. Cheers Dale
Dale, obviously my brain was stuck on Tuxedo Doom instead of moon but it was a new group to me also. Not easy to dance to which did hurt the album. The Hermanod album is just so relaxing. Fun album
i saw tuxedoMOON back in the 80,s way more entertaining live. Miranda sounds like Dwight yokam at 33... cheers
I just somehow got doom stuck in my head. Happened all the time. You hold the album but get something stuck in your brain Bruce. I couldn’t believe I kept saying that. So much for editing haha. Miranda should reissue her albums as a guy and see what happens!
Corrupt me Steve. I've been too strait-laced for too long. I feel the need to become morally low brow and search for records. Spin them and worst of all....enjoy them. Be the guide to another batch of time consuming, space hogging entities. I shall think of you on my next venture in to the record store. Pasi
lol Pasi, the great corruptor. Don’t buy too many records Pasi, you have to save for your travels so I can live life through your trips You are my traveling guide
I played that Angry Samoans on 4th of July. On my last vinyl finds I mentioned that you can play the Legal Weapon on 33 and 45.
Isn’t it crazy on some of these albums can be played and sound decent at different speeds. Of course Martin Jones is the king of speeding up records. Everything sounds better faster to Martin!
Fireworks are crazy in LA.
Where the heck do they go to get them Richie without having to travel a few hours away?
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 They come in from Mexico and you can buy them on the Indian reservation in Nevada.
Hi Steve, banned in Russia huh? I once uploaded a video using the Damned's Neat Neat Neat as the opening tune and it got banned in 50 countries! I ended up taking it down. Cool you got to see Blushing, they sounded pretty good. I need to listen to the Angry Samoans, if you and Vinyl Richie say it's good, it must be worth checking out. I have a Tuxedomoon album titled Half Mute that's pretty enjoyable, it's from their later period, probably more tame than the music you described on the 12". As always, an interesting batch of records. Have a good week.
Michael, Angry Samoans would be up your alley. It is such a classic album and was really one of the leaders of the CA hardcore movement. Too bad I couldn’t say Tuxedomoon correctly lol. I got doom stuck in my head. Even if I reviewed it and caught it I wouldn’t refilm it, just another typical Sunday Show lol
I heard Gutierrez brothers on net. They reminded me of Khruangbin actually (sure you've know that group) Gutierrez bros play here in Stockholm 27/8. Hope it will be full house.....HE
Hasse, Khruangbin without a super hot bass player lol. I thought that exact same thing but forgot to mention the comparison. Guitierrez would be a nice chill concert, I really like their vibe
Happy belated 4th Steve. Great live footage. Solido sounded very cool. Enjoy your Sunday. Cheers.
Jack, I rarely go to live shows, I don’t mind them but they go on way past my bed time haha. Pretty sad
That second Miranda sounds like he or she's had too much cough syrup. (Nashville Star was on USA, btw.) I'm not sure if I entirely agree with your point about the Angry Samoans. Back in the day, I remember how offended everyone was by the name "the Dead Kennedys." In their defense, it was meant to be a provocation. However, now I have to explain to people what the fuss was about. Perhaps it might be more accurate to say that people are offended by different things now, rather than more easily offended. Your 4th was a little like mine. It's just as well that Kat's gone to VC nirvana or you'd probably be telling us how expensive a cat psychiatrist is today. Lastly I feel deep envy over your getting to see Blushing. I'll look into Wave Decay. I see they're from Denver. Happy Sunday, Steve,
Joe, good point on the name of Dead Kennedys, I remember hearing about that and I couldn’t believe that would be a band name. Now I don’t think twice about their name. People are more easily offended or it just might be that people have an easier platform to vocalize their displeasure. I was trying to get something from Wave Decay but I could only find a download on it I enjoyed their music but my son Erik did not get into them. Hope to hit another record store in the Denver area this week. Slowly trying to get out and explore when work allows
That’s a great Snoop record! That AcousticSounds Ella & Louis record has amazing sound quality! I love mine! Chance is a great guy! I hear heavy Santo & Johnny influence in that Hermanos Gutierrez, not surprising. Many Latino musicians are inspired by Santo and Johnny. Great show Steve!
I am unfamiliar with Santo and Johnny Steve but it sounds intriguing. The music on that record is so relaxing but interesting. I do need to check out this other Duo. The Snoop album was great, so many of those earlier rap albums are getting a nice reissue
