Hey Steve Great Show on Radio Wasteland!
Robbie, thanks for listening to that. We really have a great time doing that. I miss hanging out with Jim every Sunday in person
Hello Steve; Starting with Happiness Bastards, strumming guitar sound. Dean & Britta, soft melodic pop. Neutral Spirits, a fuzzed out version of the Kinks. Nick Drake, sad folk music. African Brothers, afro funk. Take care, Tina & Pat!~
Hi you two, it was some nice sounds this week, varied as usual but let’s call it music for various moods. I guess that should have been the title and then attacked it that way. Darn it, another missed opportunity
Hi Steve great stuff. Fab nick drake lp. Also fab sounding reggae lp. Take care of your self. Glad to hear loving your retirement 😜🏌️♂️🕺
Hahaha retirement sucks. I have not even touched my golf clubs. I’m exhausted and I’m not even doing physical stuff, so many new things to learn. Drake is so nice, so sad about him though
Have a great week Steve. I agree with you. Colonoscopy has that nice nap side effect. You will definitely deserve one if you have to do two days of prep next time. Hope you find time for some more record stores soon. Richard
Richard, hopefully after Memorial Day I will get a break and can do something fun. So far no such luck
I watched this with my wife and I said “hey, can I get that Black Crowes?” Apparently no was her answer. Hmmmmm….. I need that though. Maybe I can make you a painting for that back wall? Maybe record display there or you still have that Miles poster? Good to see you! Happy Mother’s Day to Patty. God Bless You and Thanks for sharing.
I lost that incredible Miles poster in the flood. That came from the Vinyl Douche. I really packed up my walls with records sadly. I love art I think I told you I have a large collection of art books. Drawings like you did add character to a room. Hmmm, Art for an album, that sounds intriguing.
i had a colonoscopy years ago. wasn't too bad. they gave me a rose and bought me dinner afterwards. that laventura reminded me of the album Courtney Barnett & Kurt vile did," lotta sea lice " its Smokey here in Calgary, in Canada we have 2 seasons. winter and wildfires. glad you're enjoying you're " retirement " cheers.
No kidding Bruce, the wildfires have already started, that seems incredibly early. Are you not getting snow? I don’t mind the Colonoscopy but it’s the prep, boy does that suck
Gidday Steve. Great, great lot of records. Thanks. Record room is looking good.
Ken, I keep trying to get that room put together, working on more finishing touches and what to do with stuff.
Hi Fuzzmaistro hope everything is awsome. The Black Crows sounds great. Neutral Spirits I´m going to check out. Hope kat comes home. Take care. Jimbo
Jimbo, this is a brand new channel. Oh wonder I could not find you! I just subbed your channel. You fooled me. Black Crowes was very good, hard rocking stuff. Good to hear from you
Thanks for the mention Steve, good timing as I just did a Tony Tuff video...haven't heard that African Brothers album but I have seen it shown before, assumed it was a sketchy Kingston Sounds job but actually on a label I've never heard of...probably put out to capitalize on the Easy Star Want Some Freedom release which came out the year before, some comments on the scratchy sound quality on it on Discogs. My ears perked up when you mentioned IGA, thought they were only in my area but I guess they are all over the place. Got that same second edition of Acid Archives, mostly over my head and stuff I've never heard of, outside my wheelhouse as well but well put together. Nick Drake is sad bastard music, have a good week Steve
IGA was a huge chain in the US but they pretty much got bought up. Sad Bastard music lol, his second album had some happy vibes. You are the King of Reggae in my book Doug,it is always an education The album definitely had a lot of additional noise, like an old blues record !
Hi Uncle Steve. The Black Crowes are a favorite band of mine. I really dig those dudes and all their albums. That one sounds great. The record room is really starting to shape up. Maybe Kat is just waiting for everything to be finalized before he starts showing up 'on set' again. I hope he is OK. Thanks and have a great week.
I am going with Kat got abducted by aliens. God help them No word or meow from him. That Crowes album really rocked nephew, well worth looking into. It’s one of my favorite albums so far this year.
Your room is coming together! I'm going to pick up the BC album. I've been streaming the songs, which are great. "The Knights of Fuzz" book looks jam backed with great info. I remember that VW commercial. I love Nick's contemplative vocals. Make sure you carve out enough Steve time; you'll burn out quick. Don't let the VC be a source of anxiety. Have a great week.
Mark, I did get the records from Steve, that was a nice surprise. I have yet to have time to listen to them but after Memorial Day I am told it will slow down. We will see. Mark I have picked up a number of fun albums through the Kinghts of Fuzz album, that is my kind of stuff. It is dangerous for me to look at it lol. Life should slow down soon
Hey Steve! I agree about the BC album, I may like it more than the debut. Time will tell. I just ordered the 'Acid Archives', thanks for the tip!
Steve, you will enjoy the acid archives. It fits right in with your collection. I tend to gravitate to garage rock but I have been picking up albums off that series people have been doing showing albums in that book.
We are definitely destined to meet up in Denver Steve. This year is jammed up, but maybe next spring? I’m going to make it happen my friend. I’m meeting up with the North Carolina Vinyl Picker in Vancouver in a couple of weeks after his Alaska cruise. Keep smiling.
Yeah Art is pretty excited about that cruise. I met him last spring in North Carolina. That would be great if you could hit Denver. Maybe by then I will have visited a record store lol
Wow real hard work. No retirement yet! I've been umming and arrring over that Black Crowes album, and the Black Keys, and the Kings of Leon. In the end I've skipped them all. I really liked the Dean and Britta sample. I've heard so much Nick Drake, but never bought an album. It never really grabbed me, even though he is an amazing singer-songwriter. Fab dub sample. I really like that.
Andy, I like the Black Keys and Kings of Leon but I also passed on them. It has been years since I bought a Black Crowes album but this was a real rocker, I was very happy with it. Dean and Britta, beautiful music
Dang it Mr. Steve Carlson. This is no longer the early morning Sunday show. For me it is now officially the late Sunday morning purchase show. It never fails with you. Now I have to hunt down that Dean and Britta album. It’s terrific. But you are a challenge on my wallet my friend. But with that said. Thanks for the amazing needle drops once again.
lol, I understand your pain! Other channels that do needle drops cost me money also. Everyone can talk about music but once we hear some of it our brain then really reacts to it. I love channels that do needle drops but my wallet doesn’t haha. Glad I can be of service haha.
Looking good Steve....sorry to hear about Kat though. Our cat failed to show up for a few hours when we came back from vacation last month and my younger son and I were both frantic.
Cats are so independent aren’t they. He always went outside but always returned. He was pretty old, hard saying what happened James. Glad your cat came back. We don’t plan on getting another one
Often, where genius resides, tragedy rears its ugly condition. I love Pink Moon and discovered him very early on as I was listening to many folk based artists throughout the 70s. Bryter Layter is good. The others are my favorites 🎵
JT, as a guitar player no doubt Drake appealed to you as his playing is such a big part of his music. So true about tragedy. A lot of mental illness haunts some of the greatest artists. It can help them create some great works of art but often it finally consumes them.
Thanks, Steve ! I guess you are pretty much settled in, or almost, anyway. For some.. It can be a fine line between sanity and..
Knights of Fuzz looks awesome. Don't think I've ever seen that one before. African Brothers is awesome too; I like dub. Sounds like you're working harder in retirement than you did when you were working. lol wow - I sure hope you can find someone in the Denver area to force you into a record store - just imagine if you never went into another record store! So, fingers crossed. lol Thanks for showing the records!
Randy, I was told after Memorial Day things slow down and are not as hectic. Right now it is Xmas season for us as we open pools and find all kinds of problems. Not knowing anything about the business just compounds the issues and the time it takes to do the job.
Listen Bub, it's either the pool guys or us. Choose wisely record boy.
Lmao too funny, I read that to my wife at breakfast. Pool guys pay more !
Finally caught you today. Life happens...don't stop the great reviews.
Hi Sherry, so nice to hear from you. Drew seems to be traveling everywhere but you also have been busy. I do enjoy seeing what your up to on FB
I picked up Dean Wareham's I Have Nothing To Say To The Mayor Of L.A. record and liked it. I'm intrigued by the Dean & Britta L'Avventura repress; beautiful gatefold...I will have to track that down. I own versions of the three main Nick Drake records and I think Bryter Layter is my personal favorite, but everyne once in a while I get in the mood to hear the sparseness of Pink Moon.
I am such a fan of Wareham, I really like his guitar playing and singing. The album with Britta was quite beautiful, there voices intertwine nicely. I hope you can find it. I agree with Bryter Layter, much more cheerful sounding!
Nice show this week. Leaving tomorrow for the great white north. There will be video in stores up there. Missing Kat.
Fantastic Art, very jealous of your trip. That is my last state so I will make it there someday
Nice selection, Steve. That Pink Moon is a great release, I've been listening to it for many years. I wasn't sure about the new Black Crowes but since you brought it up, gotta give it a try. Thanks for listening to it for us.
I also was not sure about the BC album but some other chances convinced me to try. Best music I have heard from them in years. When I think about your early days with punk I think anti Drake but beautiful music appeals to everyone and that is what Drake gave us, just no one knew it at the time
Love the “murky” Steve. I went to see the Black Crowes with my son back in the early 00s, great show. Need to get the new record, but trust me it’s not priced at $25 up here. Could get lost in the Acid Archives, love those publications. Nice records you showed. Give Aiden hug for me, what a sweetie. Cheers.
It has been nice to have so much Aiden time. He gets so excited when he sees me. It totally fills me with joy Jack. I do love books like King of Fuzz and Acid Diaries though they tend to cost me waaaaay too much money! Poor self control Jack
In the absence of the Douche, I've been going to Bandcamp and listening to a lot of new music on my own and I think that's even more expensive. I never liked the Black Crows so you didn't persuade me on that but I will check out the Neutral Spirits. Good luck settling in. I hope your slave driver son gives you some time to enjoy some music. Have a good week.
lol Joe, after Memorial Day I have been told it slows down, I’m hoping so. I just fall asleep in my r3cord room at night now. Neutral Spirit was a very good album and the reissue was a decent price. I keep saying I should listen to Bandcamp but maybe I can’t afford to lol. I do love finding new groups
Hey Steve! I get the colonoscopy thing. I get to have one every 3 years cause of the polyps. I'm gonna go broke watching your channel cause of all the great music you introduce me too lol. Never heard that Dean & Britta album until now and I want to get it. Sounds amazing!! Neutral Spirits sound good too so need to check that out. Another great video Steve!
Todd, music samples are dangerous lol. Neutral Spirits reissue can be found for a very reasonable price, great music from a very obscure band. Have you ever listened to the group Luna Todd. Dean Wareham led that group, some wonderful music. If you don’t know them stream their album Penthouse. Play 23 minutes in Brussels. Some great guitar playing on that song.
Kat lives! From Happiness Bastards to a sad bastard. If you like that Black Crowes album you need to go back again, Steve! Their first three albums are all fantastic. Please don’t work too hard. It seems to be a trap some people fall into after retirement. Hope everything else is going well, and Happy Mother’s Day to Patty! ✌🏻
We had a good Mothers Day. We went over to our kids and had a great meal, nice living so close. So often when we revisit an album and take time with it we discover what everyone else loved about that album. Part of the excitement of music. Looks like you had a great time with Jon and Eric, it would be fun to do that again
Nice overview Steve. New to your channel via Mark at Mad4Vinyl recommendation. Bryter Later is happier and cheerier as you say, but any Nick Drake is fantastic. Looking forward to catching up on your previous videos 😎🎶🎸
That was very nice of Mark, he has been an outstanding friend. Do you also have a channel? Funny how music can grow on you, sometimes it is for the nostalgia and other times it’s just that you finally get it. Pink Moon was an album like that for me
Hey Steve! Great stuff! So that L'Avventura album - the clip you played gives me total '60s pop vibes. Sounds wonderful! The Knights of Fuzz is my go-to bible as well. I love flipping through that book. Cheers, and don't work too hard!
Dean and Britta have a Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birken feel to it. I am really enjoying that album. Knights of Fuzz and cause you to send way too much money lol.
Your can let me know when you're in Virginia again... You need to find your new shop I guess. Cheers
Jeff, I do need to get to Virginia again. I will let you know if we can make something work out
I switched jobs after 18 years and the learning curve to me was fun. Very hectic but fun 😂... BUT when I'm your age I'm done! I do understand what your doing tho just don't get to a place where it affects your health. Your wall behind you is a great place for some nice shelving and art. Be good bro 🤟🤟😎
When I was 56 I left Kmart after 35 years and went into the hearing aid industry. Wow was that a shock but I was successful. This too will all come to me Brian
Hi Steve - Dean & Britta = Lucky Dean.
Amen to that David, she is quite beautiful
Steve, I’m with you on just needing the first two Black Crows and I’m good. Those books seem like they’d cost me too much money. I have my Nick Drake on CD. I think I can go without vinyl on that. Have a great week. Peace ☮️ Namaste 🙏 the Zonkman
Zonkman and Nick Drake…nah…don’t see it lol. That garage book is great and yes it does cost me money Discogs appreciates it though lol.
Yes, albino crows do exist. Really weird looking. Love Nick Drake.
That would be sooooo weird to see. Can you imagine what people would have thought years ago of seeing one. Either it would be the return of some god or all hell was about to break lose. I knew you would know the answer Michael!
Still no Kat? I’m sorry to hear that. I know you must miss being drooled on. Haha
Cheers☘️
It’s weird not wiping cat snot off of you during a video or being left covered in hair Brian
Hiya Steve. Allready spent my birthday gift from a friend (pre-order of the new Crowded House record) so I guess Black Crows will have to wait! But you sure make me want to go and grab it 😊
I would really like to discover or explore Nick Drake, I’m a bit… embarrassed about it to be honest.
Thank you for the birthday greeting and I hope you liked my new videos out and about part! 😊
❤ Denver 😊
I always love you videos of your surroundings. I just love that kind of stuff. Sadly I have fallen so far behind I try to watch some at work but I always have so much going on Morten. I hope someday to do some thing around this area and start filming again. Drake is an easy catalog to get, only 3 albums and each one is different. Very enjoyable stuff. I saw you Crowded House video, nice way to spend some cash my friend
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 Thank you Steve. All the best.
Hi Steve. I know what you mean about working 6 and 7 days a week. It’s exhausting. I love my Black Crows. I’ve not heard that album yet. I really enjoy the mood of that L’Aventura album! Great sound! I need to get some Nick Drake in my collection. Have a great Sunday.
Steve, maybe in that huge collection you bought is a OG Drake. His music does have a wonderful beauty to it. Check out the new BC, it really rocks, I was impressed. Steve I’m a huge Dean Wareham fan so to hear his vocal style mixed with Britta’s sensual style was like listening to a Gainsborough record. So happy with that RSD album.
Hey Steve, nice selections! I will check out the Dean and Britta record, I like their voices together. Dean has the “Indian Summer” covers covered. Luna covered Beat Happening’s “Indian Summer” on the Slide EP (different song). Have a great week and don’t work too hard, you’re making the rest of us look like slackers.
lol Russell. I was not prepared for the hours this was going to take but then neither was my son who is balancing two job. Hopefully sanity returns soon
Zorched Pretzels, That's my dictionary band.
Lmao, I am digging that name and pretty sure it has not been taken Henry
Good morning Steve! I think Pink Moon was also the first Nick Drake song I heard but it was on a Walt Mink album their debut. Great band out of Minnesota I believe. Take care Brian ☮️
Brian, I have never heard of Walt Mink but very cool he introduced you to Pink Moon. It is a wonderful song. Always a pleasure Brian
I like the record room! You got some unique albums into the collection. Sounds like you’re busy! Since you can’t get out to record stores, I bet you’re still cornering the online market!
Michael, Jim still takes most of my money. I got some serious heat being shipped my way. I am so busy, I just fall asleep at night in my chair. I hope things slow down as I really do want to take things slower
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 yes, take things slower. Life goes by so fast! Drink some tea and listen to the birds in your new place
I lost interest in the Black Crows after their second album, I think the first two are the best and that's all I need. I have that Knights of Fuzz book also, it comes in handy for research. Neutral Spirits is on my wantlist, I've listened to it online and really liked it. I tried to get into Nick Drake, but it just didn't click with me. Funny how I like Nico's Marble Index, but find Nick Drake a big snore. Cool batch of records Steve, hope you're settling in OK in your new home, have a great week.
Wow, I just can’t get into Nico at all but love Drake lmao. Our ears pick out different things Michael. No doubt you would have a ton of albums in the Knights of Fuzz, so many great bands. I have gotten a lot of albums thanks to that book. Stream the new Crowes album and see what you think my friend
Mike, you're working more now as a retiree!!! Things are a bit murky hmmmmmm...that's enough info for me 😂I don't know if I should pull the trigger on the new Black Crowes. The stuff of theirs that I like, I really like, but they can be a bit patchy too. Dean & Britta are so great. I think that album must be named after the film. Everyone seems to have that Acid Archives book except me! Knights Of Fuzz...that looks good too. Neutral Spirits sounds great. The thing I like about Nick Drake is it's easy to get his full studio discography. Oh and the music's not bad either. If King Tubby is involved the dub is going to be deep! Cheers...Mike
Hi Mike, yeah if I knew that retirement was working so much I never would have retired ! It is exhausting. I come up to my record room to listen to an album and fall asleep lol. Dean and Britta make great music, this album is wonderful and lucky Dean! I no doubt have some albums in that Acid book but I’m just too lazy to figure out which ones I have Mike. I would have an easy time finding the albums in Knights of Fuzz. I’m more of a fuzzy kind of guy Mike.
My favorite brothers band is Dirtclodfight its probably just on the edge of your comfort and definitely outsides the wifes
Shawn, if you like a band no doubt it is on the edge for me but Jeff would love it. I do see they have 4 CDs so I will test myself for the experimental Shawn. By the way, I do love those juggling videos.
I'm enjoying your recent videos Steve, l think being knackered suits you😂 l've been getting too much lately l don't have enough time to enjoy them. I'm going to slow down. The Knights of Fuzz a new one on me. Neutral Spirits mmmmn oh no l just said l was gonna slow down...
Mike you would enjoy Knights of Fuzz. Mike, having a VC channel tends to cause us to buy more. We get more excited as we see what other people bought and also tend o buy more to show and we spend more. It can be a killer. Then we get to the point where we never really listen to the music. I have very little listening time so I slowed down though I still have albums I have never shown lol. It’s a disease!
The new record room is coming together I see...too bad Kat hasn't been around to supervise, or you would have been done by now...heh heh...Interesting stuff this week, not all in my wheelhouse, but not bad overall. Keep the faith, Kat will be back...although you might want to let your neighbors back in Midland know he's missing...just in case....heh heh...
Yeah, no doubt Kat would have been a big help,…not. It is nice to not have my shirts filled with hair. Maybe he found a ride home? An unsolved mystery TC
King Tubby is always essential, and the great Sugar Minnott never did anything "minor." 😉
You are the other reggae expert Dave, your knowledge is so vast on that genre. You must also watch Doug’s channel. I do need to get more nut I get pulled into something else Dave
Hi Steve, I heard when you move to Colorado, they give you a Subaru. Have you got yours yet? Do you get to pick the color? Quite a mix of records this week. Take care and have a good week. Thanks.
lol Ralph, on on the Eastern side, Denver side you get a Subaru. On the other side of the mountains it’s a Ford 150 lol. Still waiting on my vehicle though
Hey grandson, you like Zamrock??? My uncle got me the Holdovers soundtrack and it was some crazy box set with XMAS card and sweatshirt that's too big. There is a 1-in-30,000 chance of seeing an albino crow.
Someone else said they do exist, wouldn’t that be freaky. I am worried for when my grandson comes into my records room and what will happen to my Zamrock, I don’t so it being a good thing
Hey Steve FIFO 🎉. Retirement not? Sounds like you are having fun 😉. I left my job of 20 yrs and started anew like that. Took about a year to exceed my salary of 20+ years and then I said enough 😊. Will not work until I die! No regrets.
Greg, the problem with the job is I just don’t know what to expect. Everyday is a discovery. It is our crazy season as we work to open pools but I hired what I think will be a great crew this year. I’m looking at 2 years of FT and then PT. I need it to live comfortably out here. Seeing my grandson all the time makes it worth while though
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 you're not kidding brother about Aiden. These little people are special 😀. You're gonna do great 👍. You have already in my book - got out of Mich 😆
Sorry to hear about the colonoscopy =as for the records My notebook is filled - don't know Black Crows and nick Drake a bit depressing - try Mon Laferte Steve Chilean singer awesome
Hi John, this Black Crowes had such a wonderful 70s rock vibe. Very enjoyable Mon Laferte, I will give them a listen
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 she's a chilean female singer
Working 6-7 days a week! Your employer is a slave-driver 😆 The colonoscopy was OK, but the prep was awful. L'Avventura sounds very nice. The frst Nick Drake I ever heard was the comp Way To Blue - An Introduction To Nick Drake (on CD). It really appealed to me!
I also had that Drake comp Brian. Great way to get introduced to him. Can you imagine 2 days of prep for a colonoscopy. I am being tortured because I don’t poop right lol. Dean and Britta, two thumbs up my friend
Ive got the acid archive second edition also, maybe you dont know that author Patrick Lundborg isnt alive anymore?
Shall try Neutral Spirits......
I had no idea about Lundborg Hasse. You are a fountain of information my friend. Neutral Spirts was very enjoyable, just don’t try to buy an OG!
