Cooking With Brenda Gantt

A few millennials in my church kept asking me how to make "this" and how to make "that." I am an old time, traditional southern cook... I rarely follow a recipe... cooking is a feel, not a description. When the belly 'feels' full you know the cooking was good! I put those young folks off a time or two, and one day I finally decided I'd show them how to make homemade biscuits. I filmed with one hand and cooked with the other, and uploaded that biscuits video to my personal Facebook page. Would you believe that a few weeks later the video had over 1 million views. Shortly after that, Covid struck and folks who normally had access to restaurants, found themselves with few options of places to eat. So, I started my "Cooking with Brenda Gantt" Facebook page with hope that those folks and many others would learn not only how simple cooking can be, but also that they would experience the joy that comes from the kitchen and the table! Cucumber Salad
Crispy cucumber salad is so refreshing. Yes it makes a difference what kind on cucumbers you buy. The one that are smaller and say picking cucumbers are the best. Salad cucumbers are softer and sometimes get mush. Try this salad. It's sweet and sour taste will have you coming back for more.

Chicken Salad

I made the salad out of the left overs from the roasted chicken I cooked the other day. You can put whatever you have in your salad. It doesn't have to be exactly like mine.
Painting/Flowers on Doors

Orchid plantings

I bought me a strawberry pot. I took old dead oak trees and planted my orchids in the strawberry pot with the Rottenwood from the old oak trees. I planted an orchid in each hole in the pot. I think it will be beautiful. I've never done this before I've never seen it done before but I like to invent new ways of doing things. Thank you so much for watching Cooking with Brenda GANTT.

Neck Bones

My mother loved to boil neck bones. They have more meat on the bones than you would think. She would make dumplings or just serve them with vegetables. In the South we use all of the hog. We don't throw good meat away. Did y'all kill hogs in hog killing weather. An old saying is - " Boy,it's hog kill'in weather outside. "
Ham Pot Pie

This pie is so delicious. When you are building it don't skimp on the broth. Dumplings soak up broth. So as you add the peas, eggs and dumplings add more broth than you think it needs. This is one of my Hannah's favorite meals. Thank you for cooking with me.

I'm a Buckeye(Ohio) but my sister had a boyfriend who was from Georgia and he showed her to make neck bones and rice. Absolutely delicious and add a couple side dishes of vegetables and you have a good cheap meal.

I happen to be from Louisiana been here in Tennessee for about 60 years. Came here for the music. I enjoy your cooking show very much because it is like my mama cooked and like I have cooked all my life. I love that salad and I make it myself. But I like mine without sugar. And yes, crackers is good with it.
