Premier League REFUSE To Scrap VAR Despite Club Vote | Wolves | PGMOL
Premier League clubs are all set to vote on the possible abolition of VAR for next season after Wolves tabled a proposal against the technology following a string of errors, and in turn apologies, from the PGMOL. As per Sky Sports, the Premier League board are firmly against the idea, although it will still be brought up at the next shareholders' meeting on June 6th due to the fact that all clubs have a right to raise grievances through professional channels. According to the PGMOL, the introduction of VAR has increased correct decisions from 82% up to 96%, but Wolves believe it's made the Premier League less watchable. This video discusses the pros and cons of scrapping VAR while detailing what might be best for English football moving forward.

The solution is that SIMPLE the EPL just cannot fix it! In Rugby League, American Football, the NBA. Any situation where VAR is needed? 1. Transparency! Allow the crowd to hear and see the issue! 2. Once football LEAVES the Stadium, it’s open to corruption. 3. The few snippets the EPL have released, are an absolute shambles! 4/5 different voices. 4. If they followed the above, TV companies can sack the wrinkly ex-Refs who only make matters worse! 0:02 We NEVER hear hour long debates after the other sports. It’s not rocket science…

VAR isn't nowhere near 90% accurate at all ! When calls are labelled as subjective or not clear and obvious errors and the system can't or won't get involved makes my blood boil. Even tho I hate the bloody thing it has to stay otherwise even more corruption will stand out and all what officials will need to say is I didn't have var. Even tho they is little accountability for refs they have 0 excuses. They needs to be stronger punishments for incompetence from officials cos if a manager slips says the wrong word in a press conference after a they would have the book thrown... but these clowns can say and do what they like officials act like the mafia not clubs outside the top 6

Something HAS to give after the all the displays of rank incompetence this past season. VAR as it's being operated simply is in disrepute with clubs, players and fans alike. Even the match officials with their infinite wisdom aided by a healthy dose of hindsight have voices their embarrassment at some 'decisions' in the name of their profession while others from the ranks continue to defend the indefensible, another sign of disrepute. I agree, pre-VAR was often no better partcularly now the 'expert' pundits are armed with replays highlighting errors made. A sense of injustice existed then and continues to exist now we have the 'solution'. So what has gone wrong? Quite simply the personnel employed to use it. imho PGMOL marking their own homework is unsustainable. Despite ALL the tech at their disposal the errors continue so it's fair to conclude an element of protecting the professional on the pitch is happening in addition to rank incompetence. Clear and concise omms is another area they are failing on. Pretty obvious why as none of them are comms professionals where clear and concise communication matters. I say retain VAR but replace the organisation operating the matchday tech with an independent (of PL / PGMOL) outfit of trained (in FA rules of the game) comms pro's whose KPI's are measured on how many mistakes occur / accurate decisions made. It really cannot be any worse. The key is to allow PGMOL to do what they do and officiate only on the field of play who retains the final say - and sole responsibility for any decision reached. The crap ones measured objectively maybe subject to tea - no biscuits interviews to explain themselves to the future football regulator who then decides if they are competent enough to continue in their job the next season?

It looks like my team Forest has survived by the skin of its teeth in the PL this season. But to be honest,I'm not that excited by another season of BS VAR and poor refeering while the same half dozen or so clubs compete for Europe while the rest of us scrabble about for crumbs. Yes I know it's better financially for clubs to be in the PL, but personally I much prefer the Championship where every team has a chance and most of all, no VAR to pollute the game!

Does no one remember the 4th official? If there was doubt between ref and linesmen the video was there. The whole premise of clear and obvious error is clearly and obviously a fake construct if it takes multiple views and minutes to review. Cognitive dissonance and more corruption. The best part of wolves statement is it gives a safety net to on pitch refs in favour of a mafia.

  • @zig_ziggy

Good Video. VAR done properly should decrease the number of wrong decisions. I would suggest a panel of 3 VAR officials to individually watch the video and each come to an independent decision. There's no reason why 3 teams of VAR officials can't monitor the entire premier league on a busy Saturday morning. This way the same VAR team are not controlling one game.

100% Uti, it's not the technology... it's the morans applying the technology looking to be the 'stars' in the game instead of the monkeys running a process. I really wish I didn't have to know the name Howard Webb and I shouldn't.. he should be operating VAR quietly, efficiently and most importantly correctly in the background along with all his other cronies. Football is about fans & players not these VAR goons and useless referees. Two Simple suggestons for improvement... (1) The VAR process & audio should be communicated in the stadium to fans like it is in other sports (2) Offside should be judged by a players foot/boot and not if his ballbag is slightly ahead of the defenders nose. Ridic the way it's done now... apply is consistently and use the UEFA VAR model as it's a lot better and removes the need for the monkeys to draw 'lines'... FFS what a joke that is. RANT OVER. Keep up the good work my friend.

I Agree with everything you say, the corrupt goings on in football today is all about money mostly with the involvement of VAR, (so bent and corrupt !!!! ) the majority of the decisions have just been nonsense and Man City’s decisions have been some of worst, money talks and they just pay their way out of anything, ?? Man City With 115 cases against them not one case of points deducted?? Or any mention of action against the club, just so wrong it’s becoming boring?? Even their own fans leave the games early?? what’s the point of going to games knowing that somehow as fans you expect to win nearly every game? Is it because they are such a big club so rich they can pay to get the right decisions to suit them,?? to be fair the players Man City have in their squad is impressive second to none undoubtedly one of the best sides in the world today, but real proof no VAR, the refs decision is final, no back handers no brown envelopes , would it make any difference I don’t think so,?? the top teams of Europe and even worldwide leagues have just grown to big for the everyday football matches, money has ruined our beautiful game for ever!!!! Will it ever comeback I don’t think so.😢😢😢😢😢

Does this mean that Ipswich will be able to come up, break financial rules and make it all go away with a fat cheque? It stinks of corruption, backhanders and greed. I don't blame City's fans, players or Pep for any of this scumbaggery, but every football fan who sits within earshot of a directors box that has City board members, chairman, owners, accountants or Premier league top brass sat in it next season need to let them know, loudly and for the full 90 minutes exactly what the rest of the football community think of them.
