  • The FA Cup will no longer have replays from the first round proper with fixtures now set to be played exclusively on weekends. The FA and the Premier League revealed they have reached a new agreement starting from next season for a minimum of six years to "strengthen" the competition with "new and exclusive calendar windows". This video details why the decision to scrap FA Cup replays in favour of UEFA competitions is a terrible one and what it means for the sport moving forward.

It blows my mind how shamelessly greedy individuals are openly destroying the sport. Do let me know your take down below!

football is too aggressive a name, it will be renamed softball, where feelings count just as much as goals do.

Surely this makes it easier for smaller teams to progress tho. Now they don’t have to get draw across 2 games for it to go to pens. Also, bigger squads means that bigger clubs can manage repeat fixtures more

What a truly terrible decision. If there ever was any doubt about the level of influence a few clubs have on the game, here's the evidence. They should automatically award a home tie to the club that is lower ranked in the league when the draw is made, to help mitigate the financial loss. Dark days indeed.

Yes Uti. Thanks for being so direct. 🎉 The FA cup should be respected and maintained.

The Modern game consists of Dark arts on and off the pitch. VAR. Dodgy official's decisions. FFP. FFP Point deductions. For the lower teams that is. And now this. Its all heading for the big divide and new league they want once they have put enough distance between teams

It's a joke they should've stuck to just champions in a knockout format for the Champions League. I suppose atleast it now makes part of it's name actually matter as let's be honest it's not worthy of being called the Champions League when 4th gets you into it. Which I'm more then happy for that as we will be in it next season barring we don't do a Spursy but still not the glory days of the competition even before this change in my opinion and now it's actually affecting the FA Cup ffs.

The Championship is a much more open and entertaining league most seasons and the match results aren't usually a foregone conclusion or the tic a taka 500 passes per team borefest many Premier games have become. The sooner the Elite leave and join a no relegation Mega Euro Super Duper league and never being allowed to return to domestic football the better.

What next playing the FA cup in the UAE ? because they'll sponsor it... the sport is losing it's soul just to earn a quick buck the sad thing is I doubt that any suit inside the FA actually supports a club nevermind go to a game

That's exactly it David. Only a matter of time before games in major competitions are played abroad, which IMO would be the final nail in the coffin for the sport as we know it

they have done this to make it easier for the top clubs to still compete in the cups whilst going for the league title, caraboa cup and the UCL. God forbid a top side has to replay a game and are fatigued or injured for future fixtures. The game is just gone, what a bunch of soft lads. haha ''grassroots football'' you mean the same thing the prem has been trying to destroy for 20 years now?

Well said my friend, agree with every word. What's even more strange is that Premier League sides don't even come into the fold until the 3rd round, yet they're scrapping replays from the 1st and 2nd rounds too
