- Ipswich Town have returned to the Premier League under Kieran McKenna after 22 years of exile following a victory over Huddersfield Town at Portman Road on the final day of the 2023/24 Championship season. What makes Ipswich Town's achievement different from other sides who've gone up is that they've now been promoted in back to back seasons, as they were playing in League One as early as last year. This video details their extraordinary rise up the English footballing ladder while analyzing the tactics of the man who is responsible for their success in Kieran McKenna.

This is EXACTLY what football is all about, not winning silverware with oil money. The journey Ipswich have had over the last couple of years is truly beautiful, and I’m buzzing to see a club with their rich history and heritage right back where they belong. Looking forward to making videos about them, and their manager Kieran McKenna, who’s destined for the very top, moving forward!
Who owns United again? Glazers the billionaires, Ratcliffe the billionaire and richest guy in UK with INEOS, who do what? GAS/OIL
#keepcrying
Well done Ipswich. Hopefully see you at the City Ground next season.
Ipswich used pension fund money instead of oil money, plus they just diluted the 5% of the club the fans owned to 1%. Fans owned these shares after giving the club cash when they went bust all those years ago. The new investors get the rest now and the pension fund get any future dividend, I believe. Soooooo romantic.
As was Cooper apparently, but not so according to the guys from FFTV who were calling for his head late on last season then from September/October this season too. Because of all their agitation regarding Cooper, they kept saying he didn't have a clue and didn't know what he was doing and was out of his depth which to me was a load of rubbish and ultimately put pressure on his stewardship of the team and thus they won by getting enough people to grumble about him at the ground which really didn't help settle the team nor the fans so caused him to eventually lose his job. They are now grumbling about Nuno so not good coming from people who claim to love the club yet are causing trouble for players and coach too which in the long term will have a serious knock on effect! Very unhealthy and non conducive to a successful team outcome!!!
Uti, if you ever get the opportunity to check them out then please do so as you will see what these 'So Called Self Professed Forest Fans' who are always complaining about something, be it the players, the management or something else they find to complain about!
Btw Uti, my old best mate, whom sadly passed away in 2020 at the very young age of just 39 years, he is a big loss to his wife and then 6 year old son too. I was also devastated myself and we always had jokes over the fact I was a Forest fan and he wanted them to do well whilst he was an Ipswich Town fan and so I wanted them to do better. Since his passing, I have always looked out for their results too and was happy when I noted their upturn in results and watched their matches if on Sky Sports anytime too! I watched their penultimate match of the season and also watched their last match of the season too, I cheered their goals and was overjoyed when they completed their overhaul of Leeds advantage and yelled upon their return to the Premiership! Great video mate, I for one loved it! Keep up the great work and best of luck with the growth of your channel, I just hope it goes from strength to strength! ❤️🤞🏻 You are a star! ❤️❤️
Obligatory tip of the hat to Forest from not so secret Red Uti. COYR 😀
Ahahaha can't help it Adam, have got a lot of respect for clubs who actually earned as opposed to bought their silverware!
It's a great story, I'm glad Ipswich have come up.
At the age of 87 I am thankfull for having a fairly good memory, was born Curriers Lane just a short distance from Portman Rd, in those early days Ipswich was 3rd Diviision South, players then on the close season had to go to work. For me they were heros, even though there was no promotion or winning trophies, it was wonderful just to have an oportunity every other week to see a game. Events that made the club well known was excelent managers, first Alf Ramsey then later Bobby Robson, they both brought success, now there is Kieran McKenna, and what a tremeandous achievment he has made in promoting Ipswich Town FC from the Championship to the Premier.
Going back to when I was first taken to a game at Portman Road was around 1967, I think either Stoke or Sunderland & we won 2-0 but dad took me out as I got bored! Going into the 1970s, we were a good team & did well against teams with better basics & we won some great games & lost big too. In 1972, our first game against Manchester United, we won 2-1 away & that season we finished in the top 6. Our only bad season in the 70s was 1977-78 when we finished 18th but won the FA Cuo against the Gunners. I queued up for 7 hours to get tickets, then let my mum go with dad to Wembley. The Dutch men arrived over the 1978-79 season & suddenly Ipswich were just unbeatable in most games with the UEFA cup in '81 & boy did the town rock...
Last season we lost only 4 games in League One, scored 101 goals on a shoestring. 2nd place & thoroughly deserved. Into the Championship & right from the off we picked up wins with goals. Are only embarrassing result was Maidstone Utd in the FA Cup, & wow; that hurt in a mediocre patch. We drew lots, still scored & into March, in form & that pivotal result Ipswich got was against Southampton.
That for me nailed the league & our run in was the same for the top 6, against each other & except for Norwich, we just cruised through to Saturday after beating Coventry City & Leeds Utd must've been gutted. The one thing I've enjoyed is the never dtop attitude, the confidence in every player & the subs doing the thing they're paid for & McKenna's beliefs in its not over until it's over... Dad has been gone 9 years & my grandad too, who witnessed it all from 1930 to 1996.
They're watching, be pleased as punch but I don't attend due to shift work so highlights & radio fill my football. It's just fantastic 😅
If you didn’t live through the 70s and 80s with Ipswich town, you cannot appreciate just how fabulous the football was.
They were the best team in England - and that’s not my opinion, it’s from Sir Bobby himself.
I was too young to remember the early 1960s, but let’s not forget that Sir Alf won the league title, making Ipswich champions of England, after achieving promotion the previous season. That achievement often seems to be forgotten, and is probably even more impressive than what the team has achieved over the last couple of years.
Sir Alf won the old second division title in 1960/61, and the division 1 title in 1962, our first ever season in the top flight. A team that deserves a special mention is Nottingham Forest from 1975-80. When Clough arrived Forest were a mid-table second tier side. They won promotion in 1977 finishing third (no play-offs in those days). They won the league title in 78 and the European Cup in 1979 and 1980. They also played sublime football.
I remember Ipswich in the late 60’s and throughout 70’s & 80’s. I recall our wonderful team from Paul cooper to Mike mills, Terry butcher, the two Dutch lads and the great and much lamented booby Robson. I recall, being drunk in the Black Angus Netherley, Liverpool after we beat Arsenal in FA cup final, I recall being only person in the Kop cheering Terry Butchers equalising header against Liverpool. Great days and yes now more to come. Great video, nice comment about Forrest, I recall being in Nottingham the night they won their first European Cup, wonderful drunken night. Keep up the good work.
Thank you Stephen for both the compliment and sharing your story, like you said hopefully the good days are back!
Great stuff as always Uti. Your passion for football shines through with every video you release.
Well done Ipswich Town. An amazing achievement.
Thank you so much man, that means a lot. Really appreciate it
Nice report. Thank you Uti
Glad you liked it mate happy to share!
Great video Uti. Fair play to Ipswich & McKenna... phenomenal achievement 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you my friend, glad to see a proper club like them back in the Prem
Ipswich don't hold back against any team just the way we play. Thats how you we've never lost a European home game, and beaten top sides in every era. Thanks Uti
No problem my friend, looks like it'll be a struggle to keep hold of McKenna but fingers crossed he stays on for at least a year!
Yet again Uti, I have to commend you and show my complete respect as even though the subject of your video is Ipswich town, yet you still mentioned my beloved Forest! Anyone would think you are falling more in love with Forest and out of love with United. Whatever the case may be, you are a true gentleman and I for one loved this video as you said it as you saw it and I agree wholeheartedly heartedly with you that Ipswich are back where they belong and they have done it in the most incredibly sustainable way. Hopefully they will have enough money to be able to fill the gap left by all their loan players and let's hope, like Forest, that they will be able to stay in the division from now on! ❤️
Beautiful read as always Mark, cheers for sharing. Much love to you my friend!
Great on them it's been hard couple of decades
For sure David, hope Sheffield Wednesday can come up soon too!
Lovely video amigo ❤ .Thank you
Cheers Greg, glad you liked it pal!
Wonderful film. COYB.
Cheers Steve!
Nice one Uti.. Good luck to Ipswich Town for next season 🔴🌳
Cheers David, I wish them well too!
Great video as always Uti. As a Forest fan I have to say Cooper taking us from bottom after 7 games to promotion is just as fantastic.
Cheers mate, right you are, that was a staggering turnaround as well
Forest fan here too but what a fabulous video this is Uti👏👏I remember Ipswich as a top club why I was a kid.i wish them good luck in 36 of their games next season 💪🏻😂
⭐️🌳⭐️
Cheers Phil, really appreciate that mate! I'm of the same thinking regarding 36 games ahaha
Well spoken. Thanks.
No problem Fredrik, happy to share mate!
Its a brilliant story
Really is James!
Its a great story but i doubt they will survive in the premier league people said luton did the impossible when they got promoted but pretty much every team that goes up comes straight back down nowadays unfortunately
Proof of why billionaires have ruined the football pyramid through their corruption and greed
So true bro, very sad state of affairs
@@utichaturvedi wish it wasnt but unfortunately it is money combined with greed will destroy everything we care about
I don't see what the fuss is about,
Both Norwich & Southampton got back-to-back promotions into the Prem without parachtue payments.
Ipswich came from 11th in League One to 2nd in Championship in two seasons. Norwich got 84 points when they did it, Southampton got 88. Ipswich got 96. This was, I think, the most competitive Championship ever. Ipswich did it by playing relentlessly attacking football, which is why they were top scorers. Also, they have a great history. Which Norwich don't.

"Ipswich came from 11th in League One to 2nd in Championship in two seasons."
- Got very rich owners as well but you didn't mention that.
"Norwich got 84 points when they did it, Southampton got 88. Ipswich got 96."
- Ipswich still couldn't beat Norwich though, could they ?
"This was, I think, the most competitive Championship ever."
- Difficult to prove.
"Also, they have a great history."
- Do they ?
Done nothing since 2002.
Huddersfield, Portsmouth, Sunderland, Nottingham Forest, Derby County and Preston North End have equally good/better histories.
"Which Norwich don't"
- Of course you'd say that.
@@Russ--R The owners are rich. That's not the same thing as the club being rich, as it depends how much money they put into the club. The Ipswich wage bill ranks 16th. Nowhere near Leicester, Leeds and Southampton, and less than half that of West Brom and Norwich. They are also 16th on market value. This makes the achievement all the more remarkable.
@@Russ--R Easy to prove you're a bit of a bell end!
But VS Leicester, Leeds, Southampton 💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰
What Leicester and Forest did is bigger, much bigger. Lots teams have gone back to back in lower leagues.. Wimbledon, Fulham etc. it's good, but hardly worth a video, happens alot. So no, not a miracle!!
Not much romance in being owned by The Arizona state firefighters pension fund, and they just sealed another 100 million from a US investment fund. They're not even owned by a human. The people who actually run the club have been great so far but!
Pity the commentary is NOT in good english!
For his second language it was easy to understand even with his accent. Pity you're a bit of a knob!
