    I have one question, Coach Alina. Is it okay to cry during your insomnia recovery journey? When I get only 4 hours of sleep, I feel really fatigued, my head hurts, and my eyes burn. As a result, I cry because of the discomfort. Am I telling my brain that there is something to fear by crying like that?

    • @FearlessSleep
      @FearlessSleep Před 4 dny

      That's a good question! It's absolutely okay to cry if that's what's coming up - we don't have to push away our genuine emotion. I find that when we approach ourselves and our emotions with kindness and compassion and let the feelings flow though us, we often find ease at some point, as those feelings have been self-kindly expressed. The only tricky part that I see is when our mind starts to nudge us to cry as a way to avoid meeting certain experiences, like discomfort, fear, etc. I.e. "Last time you cried and it helped you feel more calm, so lets keep utilizing this strategy so that you avoid uncomfortable feelings"

      @@thewhitchkingofangmar578 One of the best "cures" for insomnia is just watching videos by Alina as they help reduce all the fear which cause the turbulence. They use the fear of flying analogy. If someone is afraid to fly but they were explained how and why a plane can and does fly, then there would be a reduction of fear. If you stop with the sleeping pills you might have a night or a week of worse sleep because of fear but eventually you would see you can sleep without then and one step closer overcoming the fear that causes insomnia.

I must've slept, because my memory goes from episode 1 to episode 7 of whatever series I was watching with very little memory of stuff happening in between; I have a vague memory of acknowledging the "are you still watching?" prompt at some point but that's about it. So it might not have been deep sleep, but it was sleep.

    What if your insomnia is continuing because of negative thoughts or anxiety about things happening in lifr

      If we can't sleep only because we spend that time worrying about other life's problems (sleep isn't the topic of it), I find "Constructive worry method" to be incredibly useful (Google will explain this). It's about solving life's problems in a rational and constructive manner. It's tricky though to use it for sleep-related thoughts as our brain will be tempted to use that to keep avoiding meeting with wakefulness, thus keeping the insomnia fear loop intact.

    When you stopped sleep efforts, did it stop the anxiety?

      Not immediately, anxiety took much more time to subside

    thank you so much ! I feel totally related to this video. I am practicing CBTi for a month and it was a painful experience. Also I am under a lot of pressure if I don’t see much improvement. This video reminds me that I am not alone.

    Hello, I’ve had insomnia for about 3 months in 2018 when I was a nurse in charge of a unit. I’m assuming, stress induced. Then the nightmare returned in April 2022 when I started an Operating Room internship & had to quit because I wasn’t sleeping. I can tell you I’ve had very little “ restful” sleep since. I’ve educated myself with Daniels books & still am suffering with either light sleep or none . I’ve only had a good restful sleep maybe 1-2 x a month, nothing consistent. Is this a common pattern those with insomnia have been going this long without restful sleep? I just want to feel more rested for work the next day. I’m a nurse & feel I’m in a dangerous situation for room for patient errors. Thank you Danya

      That's totally understandable and valid concern. It's also common to feel drained and not rested from this battle, which is why working at changing our relationship with the nights is key in breaking the cycle (which takes a lot of time, of course) If you haven't yet seen it, I find Daniel's video called "How well do SLEEP DEPRIVED surgeons operate? (Heard online #17)" very interesting perspective on performance. Best wishes!

    The funny thing about insomnia is that it's actually easy to recover from when you go to bed don't make your prioritie sleep your prioritie is to accept the pain accept that you will not sleep that night and it's actually better than panicking cuz you want to solve insomnia and the only is to not fear to ba awake the whole nigh each night AF struggle that you pass with no fear is a win and the thing that make it easy to be in good moode while struggling is that you can't not controle your sleep any way the best step to recovery is try and be in good moode even when you struggle to not sleep be in good mode even in the morning when you fell tired cuz that's the best step to recover it's the only best move to do any other thing will not help you

    I remember finding you 3 years ago when I was going through a rough insomnia episodes all because of taking antibiotics it was new to me since I was always good with sleep I tried everything on the book and nothing helped until I found your videos and made me understand sleep is not important and some how you will be able to sleep and I threw away all the stuff I got to sleep and stop trying and I beat insomnia but once again I had to take antibiotics and insomnia got me again but I still get fear even though I know how to overcome it can’t wait to get over it and be the normal me again and your videos are so encouraging ❤

      Totally get that 🫂 Being in a situation that resembles how our insomnia started probably won't go completely unnoticed by our safety seeking brain, and that's normal. At least some amount of curiosity/hyperarousal was meant to show up. You can get through this 💪❤

    thanks after months of strugle now im at piece. how you may ask well i just accepted the most extrem thing about not sleeping the make me want to sleep lol, like maybe i will die at 50 then what i dont care i accepted the fact that i will live tired for ever its not like i can controle sleep . either be week and live afraid or be strong and accept what you cant controle and be a men .thats it now idont care if i sleep or not ,well in reality it was not that exrteem like i still have days of the week where i can slepp till 1pm the solution is there is no solution you have to accept that there is days where you dont sleep and days where you sleep
