  • In this video, I discuss the common obstacle on the journey to effortless sleep - setting up the goal that leads us to more efforts and struggle. I also talk about a more helpful alternative to that goal and how these two goals affect the journey one way or the other.

This is turning out to be so helpful to me. I just had a speed bump and you helped me realize I was totally focusing on how much sleep I was getting. This is tricky stuff! Thank you!

Love this! I think the actual goal should be NATTO, not sleep. Sleep will always be secondary. I’ve been accidentally making sleep the end goal when that’s not the case at all. The road to learning how to be okay with whatever night is the journey but sleep is the non-controllable, it doesn’t matter. I think people, especially me 🤦🏾‍♀️, have gotten hung up on success being sleep. Success is 100% allowing whatever to happen and from that, the body is no longer on alert and sleep returns as a secondary effect. In conclusion, switch the goals people! 😄

I just realized that i have had insomnia for couple years now but usually it was caused by a stress about something specific so each time i had general anxiety in night i thought that it's ok because i'm going to sleep tomorrow like always so i just accepted everything and had problem sleeping maybe like 1 night a month. I think i unlocked something bad after a stress mixed with vacation in hotel where i couldn't sleep recently and developed quite bad hypersensitivity and those fight or flight sensations when falling asleep. They just reocurred 3 days ago and now i'm basically scared of falling asleep to not have those unpleasant feelings and have whole night of agony.

Hi Alina , your teachings really helped me in my insomnia recovery journey but all of a sudden when i have good sleep couple of nights or even straight 15 days of good sleep thought comes again when i start to doze off that oh i am sleeping and it makes me alert and i still feel sleepy and this goes on for an hour or two during night or if i try to take nap during the day. Is it my brain still not fully convinced or what ? Its been few months that i am on recovery but now this started…

I love your videos! Thank you so much for them! I just have a curiosity, did you do the "ilovepanicattacks" course?

Thank you 😊 Actually, I haven't heard of it :) But it sounds like something that allows the acceptance of panic attacks which leads to the freedom from them!

I am not sure how much of this video is really true. I know we were effortless before while sleeping but not expecting sleep I rarely doubt if we did it before. We always went to sleep at night moreover we had no troubles sleeping so body sleeps based on previous day or before that experience that sleep will happen. The way you said don't expect comes as big pressure at night. So basically you want to say suffer for all nights but don't expect anything? I can also see that you are not a sleep therapist then are you sure you will be able to handle clients? because If I am unsure if I cant heal people, I wont come at first place to run business keeping thier life at stake.

Expectation is human behaviour very much automatic like breathing. Dont you expect money from your clients? Your expectation is ok but their basic expectation is a problem? Then also let me know what they should do whole night if not expecting.

You need to learn more about anxiety and how are 'Amygdala' works. You need educate your self first before commenting like this.
You don't know what she's talking if you don't know nothing on the topic, if you educate and learn your self in this problem all will make sense to you.

Last night I was nodding off to a movie and maybe could have slept a bit. But then had a jolt of hyperarousal. I sat with the unpleasant feelings for awhile and then was able to feel more okay with being awake for the first time. I didn't sleep most of the night except for a short sleep watching the movie again and then in the morning. Through the night I was more calm and okay with the situation. But overall, I have liberated feeling of fearing sleeplessness less. Is this the idea?
