No more lost fish! Finally a flopper tuning tool!
I would like to share a tool I have been using for several years that tunes your flopper and gives you flexibility of how you want your flopper to be tuned. Today it is possible to 3D Print it in metal at a very reasonable price (around $40). I think it will probably also work well if 3D printed in plastic with fiber reinforcement for about 1/4 of the cost of metal ... but I haven't tried that so I don't know if it works as well.
Nobody likes injuring fish and letting them go off to die. This dramatically reduces the number of fish you lose to fish slip outs and I highly recommend it! Every spearo should have this in their toolbox!

    Many thanks for this video....very informative! I recently bought a new Pathos 82 pro (closed muzzle, aluminum tube with open guide, D'Angelo I). Factory setup is with an 120cm 6.5mm faceted point shaft and a single 19mm 26cm black pathos band. 1) In your opinion, if I want to keep a single band setup for simplicity and quick reload, which combination of band dia/length & shaft dia/length would you chooce for max speed/highest accuracy/minimum recoil ? I hunt very shallow (hole hunting/shallow ambush) in rocky areas for small/medium white fish mostly so my setup needs to be able for quick max speed shots but also be able handle some shots on rocks/holes without my shaft bending every time... 2) gun seems a bit heavy on hand during ambush...do you think that changing the tube with a carbon one will help me obtain more neutral buoyancy?

    Hey, how’s it going?! Been using the Hero storm 95cm lately! Have it paired with a 7mm x 130cm Sigalsub shaft and 2 x 14mm at 330% primeline bands. I’ve been getting off accuracy in some shots and gotten dead center shots in some. Is there some way I can buy from you the same shaft that you have in the storm 95cm? I wanna have the exact same configuration to have perfect accuracy and no shaft drop. “I’m new in Spearfishing so I’m not that of an expert on the configurations”. I’m going to try and pool test the setup that I have to check if there’s something wrong, been shooting pan size snapper from 1lb to 2lb and been missing shot at 3 o 4ft of distance, and that’s actually insane missing that close. I’ve tried shooting barracudas right off my face and missed, shots seem to be off some how! If there’s a way I can buy a couple of those shafts it will be awesome! Here’s my Gmail Puertoricofishingpage@gmail.com , will be nice to have a talk with you! Thanks for the awesome video, I’ve learned a lot from it. 🎉

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8 Před 6 měsíci

      I think best is not to go over 15mm small ID bands as the contraction of the bands of the thicker material is slow. I use 8mm @ 150cm a lot with 2 x 14.5mm bands. The 3rd band doesn't add much power and better is just to improve your loading technique and go for higher band stretch on 2 x 14.5mm or 2 x 15mm bands. I use this setup for large dogtooth and large YFT with great success. Also remember that a 7.5mm shaft is an excellent option as well. In some cases a 7.5mm shaft will perform better than an 8mm shaft if using 2 bands.

  • @koldman
    @koldman Před 6 měsíci

    Really good job on the testing! What setup would you recommend for the 105 , using the default 7.5 mm shaft? Two 14.5 mm small ID, or two 16 mm small ID bands (and at what stretch %)? Is it worth changing to a lighter 7 mm shaft (of proper quality) ? Thanks.

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8 Před 6 měsíci

      A 105 has a lot of band stretch so 2 x 14.5mm small ID at a good stretch will be the best option. 2 x 16mm small ID will probably not have fast enough contraction in the water to take advantage of the 7.5mm shaft. Hi Majd, thanks for sharing all this interesting data, key point I have learned from you, 1) No matter what, always test new spearguns or new shafts before going fishing. 2) Test different bands/shafts combination to get the perfect result for your type of fishing. 3) General rule of thumb, gun size 85 to 95 should work great with 7mm/14mm primeline small ID, gun from 105 to 115 should work great with 7to7.5mm/14.5mm primeline small ID. Have you seen the new Salvimar Nightmare which is basically a Salvimar Hero but with 16mm Primiline bands (not sure if they used micro ID or regular ID for the nightmare). Once thing is sure Salvimar has moved over to using Primeline bands.

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8 Před 9 měsíci

      Wow ... thank you for compiling all that information. 100% accurate! For bands Primeline are very good ... with regards to diameter, I think the small ID bands at around 14 to 15mm are best because it seems that contraction speed in the water of the bands is more important than thickness (to a certain point). It seems that water resistance hurts the thicker bands and thus energy is not transferred properly for light shafts up to 8mm diam. On heavier shafts the band contraction velocity is less and thus thickness of the bands becomes more important for transferring energy. However even for 8.5mm shaft I would still not use anything thicker than 15mm small ID. Of course with roller setups the equation is different as band contraction is different.

As for your incredible albacore , also for shorter guns I suspect that a thicker shaft with proper setup ( maybe 3*14 small id, instead 2*14,5/15 small Id) can improve dramatically performance…. @@majdq8 Hi Again Majd. Thanks for your feedback. I purchased a Salvimar Nightmare 115. The new Salvimar Nightmare is exactly the same as the Hero. The only difference is the name and the upgraded Primeline bands compared to the Hero. This 115 Nightmare comes stock with a 150mm x 7.5mm shaft and thick 16mm ''Primeline'' bands (I am not sure yet if those stock 16mm bands are micro ID or standard ID). For sure, I am looking to change those tick 16mm bands to one of the following new bands from Salvimar : *Salvimar green Primeline ''HURRICANE'' 14.5mm (Micro ID 1.6mm inner diameter) The compact compound with high hardness is developed to maintain power unchanged after the speargun has been loaded. Recommended for spearfishing with the waiting technique and for those who prefer reactivity and explosiveness. *Salvimar black Primeline ''PRIME'' 14.5mm (Micro ID 1.6mm inner diameter) Formula designed to obtain an optimized elastic modulus that guarantees an excellent ratio between loading effort and power return. This makes the PRIME compound versatile and suitable for all types of fishing. It seems like the green Salvimar ''Huracán'' by Primeline bands are denser than the black Salvimar ''Prime'' by Primeline bands, I think the best fit would be those new green Primeline ''HURRICANE'' 14.5 Micro ID bands and combine that with a new 150mm x 7mm Sigalsub Tahitian HRC shaft, or do you think I should better off with a 7.5mm shaft since the gun is a 115 size? Looking forward to your reply, and thanks again for all the information you share with the spearfishing community.

    Hi Majdq8, hopefully this reaches you soon. I am unable to post on Spearboard as a new user and I dont know who who else to ask besides mario himself thru instagram. But, I am currently working on a personal upgrade/build. Starting off with the Ermes Avatar handle, the "male insertion" piece is about 4mm too long for my barrel+plug. I am unsure of how to trim the plug itself within the barrel because it looks a little different (space for possible ballasting?). I could cut/file down the insert to my desired length but I would most likely compromise the first o-ring slot. As you would know, there are 2 o-ring slots and I only need the 2nd one since it is for a 26mm id barrel. I would just be sacrificing future builds if I were to buy a different barrel and choose to use the same handle for whatever reason. Would this have any effect on the structure of the handle in any way under pressure of band load of a conventional 120 gun? Thanks in advance

      This kit is very old and although it improves things a lot, it is still a friction trigger. There was a Double Roller trigger for the Pathos D2 from Ermessub, but I really don't recommend it as the tolerances are just too small for it to work properly. There is a new Avatar handle from Ermes with full Doublle Roller trigger. Handle follows correct design principles and pushes recoil into palm, and has the latest version of the silky smooth Double Roller Trigger .... also is a perfect match for the Pathos tube and so is a very simple switch out.

    Salam brother, and thank you for all these great videos. So much real life testing! I just saw the video of RA about tri-cut vs. pencil spear tips. What is your experience as you shoot to foam targets and RA uses ballistic gel. Not sure which target material is closer to a Kingfish (Khanat) fish body for comparing different shafts? No idea. I thought a tri-cut penetrates better - especially can break bones or cartilage better (my my logics in physics) - but looks it is not what it seem like. Amazing topic. Thanks for your kind feedback brother. Regards from Panama ><)))*>

      @majdq8 Před rokem

      I always prefer pencil point tips as most of the time I hunt in areas where my shaft might hit rock or coral. I did not find any significant loss of accuracy for tri-cut tips ... but I rarely use them and prefer just to keep my pencil tips very sharp. I can see how tri-cut can have better penetration on fish, but really if you have a good setup speargun ... the shaft will be going so fast that it will easily go through any fish ... even through thick spines of big fish.

    Hi! I bought Salvimar Hero 105 recently, 2x16 mm bands, 140 cm long and 7,5 mm thick shaft. Should I change this shaft for a 8 mm thickness of the same length?

      You should do the opposite: use 7mm shaft with 14.5 small id bands
