Testing Band Power after a 45 minute wait

  • Here I test how much of a power drop there is when you wait between shots. There is a common assumption that waiting between shots reduces dramatically the power of your band power. And that somehow thin bands are more affected by this. Here I do a penetration test to try exactly that.

    i wonder if you could make a chart of different gun setups, bands shafts sizes etc..
    that would be a great help for the beginners

    So, the great statement of many companies. that we need to cut the bands longer because of loss of power, prooved not entirely true. Bravo!
    Have you got any experience with tha trygons 130-140 rx/r2 spearguns?

    Hello Majd,
    Do you have any idea of the best setting that I can have on a baja#4 riffe ... I switched to 3* 14mm instead of 16mm on a 165cm Riffe in 8mm ...
    however the shaft systematically arrives 40cm below the target on a 6 meter shot. I should maybe try a 7.5 mm shaft... I read that you said that for an 8 ma shaft you need at least 130cm of travel between the base of bands and the lug of the shaft but I have 115cm ...
    also which brand of bands do you recommend?
    Thanks a lot
    Tony

    Have you test it before waiting, I mean with the first shoot of the day without waiting? Is it more powerfull than waiting? I've heard that it takes a lot of hours to make the bands recover again... As you said the only way to figure this out is testing, but I notice that the first shoots of the day are quite more powerfull than the ones I do at the end of the day (4-6 hours). Just wondering if you have test how powersfull is a band before and after waiting 1 hour. Thank you!!!!

    Do you think new bands should be cut 1cm shorter because after first few shots they stretch out a little bit?

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 7 lety +1

      Better is to cut the bands a tiny bit shorter and let them stretch out. It is easier this way as you don't have to tie the bands again. If there are tough to load ... just make the wishbone longer and then shorten it later.

      @@majdq8 Can you do a test for band power loss at depth? You could use a mechanical gauge for really cheap, those people would weigh fish with like 70 years ago, spring scale. Have the band stretched on a wood log and load it on the scale's hook put a camera on the gauge reading and its perfect. Search ebay for "analog fish scale"

  • @diytutorialsandmore9804

    You should try a rob allen gun there mad

  • @parisTDR250
    @parisTDR250 Před 7 lety

    another question about bands. for example if you want a 66cm band do you have to spare 2cm more, one in every side of the band for the knots. so the 66cm becomes 68cm minus 1cm shorter for the stretch out 67cm total?
    is that right cause I'm a bit confused...

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 7 lety +2

      It is not an exact science ... some batches of bands are slightly stretchier than others and should be cut shorter while other batches are slightly higher or lower in diameter. I think best is to go 360% and then if that is too easy to load, you can cut off 2cm off ONE end at a time. You can also start off with a longer wishbone and then shorten it as it gets easier to load.

  • @vatugahi

    thanks for sharing Majd! those bands tied at around 380% yes?

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 7 lety

      Yes cut at 380% ... two shorter bands were not too old ... maybe 30 or 40 shots in them. The long band had about 200 shots. These were Primeline small ID bands ... they rock!

    Hello, I have a dilemma for you,
    Does the water temperature or depth effect band performance ? (depth is independent from temperature)
    that is hard to try but whaddaya think ?

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes sure, colder water makes bands less flexible and thus probably less power. For colder temperatures I think you need to batch your bands and look for much more elastic formulation, every similar to what is done with car tires in Formula 1.

    Hi dude! This test is very intresting but you missed the test shoting immediatly after the load, and then compare it to a shot after 45 minutes (gun loaded).

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 3 lety

      I made 2 immediate shots without wait, after loading after taking the 45 min shot, so it would be the same.

    Hi i have a 140 aimrite gun what size spear do u recommend? I currently have a 10mm spear with 3 X 16mm bands and i dont feel it has the power that the gun needs to have is a 7.5mm shaft with twin 16mm bands better?

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 7 lety +2

      I don't have experience with the big Aimrites ... but the smaller ones felt like normal pipe guns with very low handles. Low handles multiply the recoil and so 3 x 16mm wtih a 10mm would be brutal. I would probably go with 2 x 14.5mm small ID and an 8mm shaft. 140cm is good stretch and I doubt a third band would improve things much. Too much band power can actually reduce your performance ... you need to find the maximum load that your gun can push the shaft out stable. An unstable shaft loses velocity very quickly and has no power.

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 7 lety +3

      Hunt are coming out with some of the most amazing shafts. Check the DeepBlue website as I think they are selling them. The new shafts have 316 SS welded cones and floppers are non recessed full bore hardened SS with weldings on the floppers. Very strong floppers that were designed with dogtooth tuna in mind. Also Devotosub and Sigalsub make very good shafts and am sure there are some others.
