    hello, thank you for this video, I'm sorry for my English.
    I'm Italian from Sardegna, and I've one Abellan Robalo 95 ( for me the best speargun I've tried ) now I want to buy a new denton 120, but if is possible I prefear put a carbon skin like you're.
    whop can make a job like that ? I think is difficult in Italy.

    Perhaps a half sphere affixed to the right side that the line can be held underneath, small as possible. -And perhaps the piece should taper from back to front...it could " grow" out of the stock from almost flush to just high enough to hold the line.

    Hello!
    Just received my Abellan Denton 120 teak version speargun from Italy. I haven’t even rigged it yet.Gun looks nice, although l don’t know if its been oiled or not (looks a bit matt), but l have a few concerns. Before l ordered it l read a post on Spearboard stating that the new 2019 version came with a much improved, sturdier muzzle. My speargun came with what looks exactly like any old picture l’ve ever seen of an Abellan Denton. It doesn’t look any thing like sturdy. It is attached to the wood, just a few millimeters from the front edges, using very, very thin screws. Bad news for me, using a float line. What is also bad news, is that the trigger guard, still isn’t completely closed, as l’ve read it is now supposed to be in the latest version.
    Does anyone know of the new muzzle, or how to make the attachment of the existing muzzle sturdier?
    Also, the wooden part of the muzzle, at the front end, that brings the bands up on level with the shaft, has two deep dents on the right side lateral edge. Does anyone know if this is a problem or not?
    Rony

    I’ve just ordered an Abellan 120 about 2 weeks ago, and l have a question.
    I’ve read a few less than good comments about the original Abellan reel. What is your impression of this reel, and if you could choose, then which reel would you put on this gun?
    I originally decided to get this gun without a reel. We normally don’t use reels around here, due to the conditions. We normally use a float line.
    Now l have second thoughts. It would be good to have the possibility of attaching a reel for my Mediterranean trips. Will it weaken the gun, or decrease the guns stiffness/accuracy if l install threaded stainless steel insert, so l can mount/remove a reel whenever l want?
    I was offered to have the gun with a Hunt Tribal 100 reel instead. Do you have any experience with this reel? I know it holds around 60 meters of 1,5 mm dynema. I was actually thinking of something a little bit higher capacity. Any suggestions on this?

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 2 lety

      I hate the Abellan reel! Best is to get a "clickable" drag where you can adjust drag and chances of a reel lock up are dramatically reduced. I haven't tried the Hunt reel but Ermessub has some new reels which are very decently priced and have the click drag.

    hello, I'm sorry for the trouble but I wanted to ask you for information. I have a denton 120 model with a white handle, and I initially mounted a double 17.5 sigal extreme elastic with an 8x140 shaft but the recoil was too strong. now I have a double reactive 16mm at 370% ... do I use it with an 8x140 or 7.5 ? what do you suggest as a set up to avoid mistakes in the fish 2 meters from the tip and take them only from a distance? the last denton mounts longer shafts.. why? Thanks

    I noticed your comment on Spearboard about wishing you had a way to hold the line out of the way. I can't post there. I wish I could add a photo here, but I have a stainless steel loop imbedded down on the right side of each of my Abellans. I route the line below it and then insert the breakaway bungee through it so that a side pull on the float line doesn't lift the bungee off of the line release. Let me know if there is a way that I can get a photo to you.

    thanks for sharing Majd! Yes! this Denton 120 with 7.5mm shaft would make a fantastic lighter, more maneuverable partner to the Albacore 130 with 8.5mm shaft! Question - do you think the Hunt Oceano 155 x 7.5mm single flopper shaft would be optimal for this gun? thanks!

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 7 lety

      @@majdq8 I have a wooden "Benthos" speargun, 1.60m 7.5mm shaft has 9 cm overhang, I understand a 1.55m shaft would be better but I am super curious to know you think overhanging shaft is bad because it will be whipping more and cause inaccurate shots? If by footprint you mean maneuverability and that is the reason it's bad, I wouldn't bother with changing the shaft. Thanks a ton, really appreciate your insights and tests !!!

    i have gun el greco 120 mediteranean hybride. shaft kamax 160/7mm rubers seagulsub extr (purple) 3x16mm. possible to add 4th rubber; shoots very well in this configuration and with 2 rubbers also. i made a test in the sea , 8m distanc shaft-target, exellent penetration.
    one question, if i put 7,2 or 7,5mm shaft did i get better precision or not? recoil will be bigger.

    Ok so i nice video agan man.. But tell me where is your bullseye spot? is it the crossairs above the black sqaure?

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 7 lety +1

      The bullseye is the bottom of the upside down "T". In this case the water was murky and the visibility is bad, I will tend to aim about an inch lower to better make out the outline of the bullseye ... so shots will be about an inch lower than they should. The amount of shaft drop between the 5m and 6m distances would not change though.

    Hi Majd, I am lost between the 110 and 120, i am a short guy you SEE (170cm) and a bit worried about loading, is there a big difference between the 110 and 120 you think ?

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 7 lety +3

      You will see some difference if you use an 8mm shaft. If you use a 6.75mm to 7.5mm shaft, then you won't see much difference. I don't recommend an 8mm shaft on either gun unless you are hunting large fish at close range and you are worried about the shaft bending. Best performance with both gun is around 7mm to 7.5mm shaft.

  • @leeleon2756
    @leeleon2756 Před 7 lety

    Hey majdq8 if u were able to add a 3rd 14.5mm band to this gun and a 8.5mm shaft how do u think it would perform with that length of a gun?

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 7 lety

      Good question and unless I test it I really don't know. I do think that with a properly configured handle this gun could easily handle 3 bands and an 8.5mm shaft. Problem would be ballast (8.5mm is very heavy and this gun is ballasted for 8mm max) and the muzzle (needs more room for 3rd band. Some might argue that you need much more mass to handle the higher load, and that is why there is an Albacore version of this gun.

    I see that this gun passes your tuna test! What size tuna are we talking here?

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 2 lety +1

      The tuna test is just a reference test that is one step more than the King Mackerel test. The King Mackerel test is 2 high density 5cm foams stuck together. I actually use a large King Mackerel for this test and put it in the pool and shot it through the spine ... so this is equivalent to that. The tuna test is just adding an extra 5cm of high density foam and is more as a reference. Many guns designed specifically for large tuna cannot pass this test at 6m ... some even with 8 bands!

  • @robertbass7772
    @robertbass7772 Před 7 lety

    You mentioned the shooting line needs to be held to the right side of the gun, away from the bands. I agree. I find this to be desirable on both the 120 and 130. I have seen many serviceable modifications, but all have drawbacks, mainly interfering with my hands when loading. Certainly the tabs on the Hunt shafts are way back! Have you come up with a modification that holds the shooting line away from the bands and also allows your hands an unobstructed path of travel when you load?

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 7 lety

      I have done it on many other guns ... so really not difficult to do. But you really need to make sure the line is not snagging as it comes off. You might not notice the snag as it might pull off, but it could be affecting your accuracy and power.

  • @Silvertriton1
    @Silvertriton1 Před 7 lety +1

    Hi Majd, did you do a video of the carbon fiber body skin laying? I saw an older comment of yours saying it was a real pain to do and you would not do it again.

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 7 lety +1

      Actually with CF sleeves it is a piece of cake. The problem was that I also put CF cloth inside the trigger housing ... that changed the fit and I couldn't put the trigger in anymore ... so had to sand and dremel off the inside CF. I don't like sanding CF as I have to use a HEPA 13 vaccum cleaner, special gloves and mask ... and even a special suite ... to eliminate any dust. If I would do it again I would just not put CF inside the trigger housing ... either that or make the size a little wider where you can still fit the trigger in after the CF. CF sleeves make adding a CF skin on a speargun really easy ... nothing like laying normal CF cloth. You just pull it over the gun like a sock ... and it contracts and expands according to the shape of the gun.

    • @Silvertriton1
      @Silvertriton1 Před 7 lety

      thanks for the clarification, all your mods make perfect sense and are also beautiful! I guess you still had to sand the spear track to compensate the added height by the CF right? did you still vacuum bag the gun? how much thickness do you thing it added on the spear track?

    • @Silvertriton1
      @Silvertriton1 Před 7 lety

      Also what size of sleeve did you use?

      @terrymoreto3989 Před 7 lety

      if one day you make a video of this , i'm very interest ! ;)

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 7 lety +1

      Maybe I will. Adding a carbon fiber skin is not as difficult as before because today you can get sleeves. With a sleeve you choose the correct size sleeve and you just put it over the gun. It will contract and expand according to the gun shape ... and you get a very strong seemless surface ... which also looks very nice. Wood is easily damaged and dented on a boat ... with CF ... it is like you have a steel cage around your gun ... makes it very very durable. Also makes the gun stiffer which is a positive thing.
