    Aloha Maj,
    Three friends and I are going to order Dentons the "new 120cm" (same gun you using here) (they changed numbering system this month, march '16, so old 130cm is now the 120cm etc). My pondering is about ways to cut down shaft momentum and keep accuracy when a few types of fish we hunt stay near rock backdrops (we are still careful and try to avoid so don't bend shaft or get stuck). If we didn't have Mu(big eye emperor)s I would probably go with the now " 100cm" (old 110) But I love the idea of having the "120" extra few feet for those wary fish (don't have to worry about rocks cause they stay high). We also have wahoo, mahi, and ahi but finding them has been challenging, so its less common :)
    I saw you post yesterday good results on the old 120cm with 7mm shaft. Using a lighter 7mm shaft was what i was thinking could cut down momentum and use 1 band when shaft might contact rocks to prevent a bend. I could just keep 8mm because thats what the gun comes with and use one band.
    Any thoughts on depowering and keeping accuracy and some distance?

      +Manaviecreations Interesting that they are changing the naming. I think there are 2 types of 130 ... one that is same shape as 120 only 10cm longer ... and another 130 that is more like the new Albacore 140 that has much more mass. The 130 would be perfect for Mu and with 3 wraps and an 8mm shaft ... I think those fish will be in for the surprise of their life. I had great success catching Mu with such a setup in the Red Sea on Mu and Emperor and Snapper ... you never get a shot closer than 6 meters in those crystal clear waters. Those fish know what distance to keep and just have no idea that they can be hit at these longer distances. I think I was the only one to successfully catch Mu and Emperor last time we went out and that was totally due to improved range of setup. If shooting into rocks though ... you will destroy your shaft very quickly as that is tremendous amount of power.

      +majdq8 They say on website they changed because the guns were overall 10cm shorter than most companies listing that size and wanted buyers to choose sizes based on what they're used to. When inquiring about the purchase from Europe they did not mention anything about different "130s".
      Have you ever tried shooting with 1 14-15mm band to see if you can get a similar accurate distance shots just without wahoo penetration? Or do you think 8mm shaft will drop severely (6+inches) after 3 meters.

      @majdq8  Před 8 lety

      Oh ... no chance the 8mm shaft will drop like a sack of potatoes. But performance is really great with 14.5mm bands.

      +Manaviecreations I have tried with 2 x 14.5mm bands and it works great for Wahoo even at 6 meters. You can even use an 8.5mm @ 160cm shaft. For large tuna the extra band is good to have. Here is some videos with only 2 x 14.5mm bands long range shooting at Wahoo ... some of the bands not even loaded at the back notch. czcams.com/video/7cUcnxirZT8/video.html

    Amazing gun. I'm curious to see the Urukay 120. Hope to see that review soon.

      +Spyros Mantzakos I have it almost finished and plan to put it up soon. I need to 3D print something on the muzzle part as I have changed how the muzzle works.

      i am veeery curious for that modification! Can't wait to see it!

    What is the overall length of this gun, and what are the distances from muzzle to sharkfins on the shafts? I see this is now a 120 instead of a 130 so just curious as to how different it is from the Oceanborn 125 size and stretch wise. Thanks!

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 8 lety

      This gun is very compact and band stretch is about 132cm. This is about the same band stretch as the OB 125 and if using an 8mm shaft, the performance if both guns are optimally setup would be similar. The gun in this video can handle 8.5mm shafts better than the OB 125 and will have much less felt recoil due to the better designed handle.

    Are you finishing testing the C4 URU 120? I'm waiting for that one every day. Need to update my bands for the summer season, and i'm really curious for what you opted for.
    If the review takes some time to post, please give me a heads up about the best set up for 8-8.5mm 160cm shaft.
    Thank you!

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 8 lety +1

      +Spyros Mantzakos The C4 did not so good with 3 x 17.5mm bands, but was very powerful with 3 x 14.5mm @ 360% with both 8mm and 8.5mm shaft. The muzzle and the rigging hurts velocity a little and if changed gets results almost similar to the gun in this video.

    • @SPYROSMANTZAKOS
      @SPYROSMANTZAKOS Před 8 lety +1

      Thank you! I don't recall a gun that you tested, being good with 3 x 17,5mm bands. If i am not mistaken 3 x 14,5mm is the max you suggested in the beefier guns.
      Waiting to see what you've changed in the muzzle and the rigging. Hope you upload it soon!

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 8 lety +1

      More is not always better ;) Sometimes more powerful bands will cause shaft to destabilize and thus all the shaft velocity gets lost very quickly. The 17.5mm bands were recommended by C4 for heavier shafts .... but I think they did not test it. You can see results of 3 x 17.5mm on the C4 here ... the 14.5mm bands had a lot more penetration. czcams.com/video/WN4yuoD2wdU/video.html

    I've just seen the new Albacore 130 you posted. Amazing review!
    So, I suppose you won't uploading the review of the C4 Urukay 120, with all the modifications you said you did to the muzzle, and handle.
    Can you please share what was actually the best and most powerful set up you recommend for the C4 uru 120 (with all the modifications of yours). Shaft mm and length (also what brand shaft), rubbers etc?
    I believe we are a few of us that would be very happy hearing from you about that gun.
    Thank you for the info!

    Yeah the band damaged should be fixed because I live in Hawaii and your allowed to dive all year long so that's more than 100 so every couple month you will have to be getting new bands

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 8 lety

      Good news is that the muzzle on the new Abellan guns has been adjusted to prevent band damage. Also the trigger guard has been extended to reach the grip ... so no gap for a float line to get stuck in.

    What do you think of a sigalsub 7mm 160 with double flopped powered by 2 Cressi 15s ? Do you think that might go ? Or will it shatter my spear on the Denton 130 ? Cheers

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 7 lety

      7mm @160cm shaft will be overpowered by the 2 x 15 small ID bands from Cressi. You will probably get shaft whip and loss of accuracy. Better would be a 7.5mm shaft.

    • @apnaus
      @apnaus Před 7 lety

      majdq8 thanks for the fast reply, I am not sure if I am the only only one facing this problem but the deeper I go the weaker the bands get especially post 20m, so I became very unsure when it comes to heavier shafts, I have 2 ID14.5 cut at 380 to a 6.5mm on the pathos 110, from 0-10m I can shot fish at4m range without any problems, but beyond 20m the shaft was dropping after 2m, I do agree and I enjoy very much the gun setups you post, my only dilemma is band power at depth :( I have lost so many fish the past week which pushed me to order the abellan 120. So you think a cressi 15*2 with a 7.5-160mm shaft from sigal should give me the power I need to put down those dentexes at 5m range ?

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 7 lety

      It is possible that you are getting water intrusion inside your bands. Make sure you have a good protocol when you make your bands to totally prevent any water intrusion. Use metal or plastic inserts and when you insert them use some silicone grease ... this acts like a good seal to prevent water going in and out of your bands as the pressure changes. If you use just dyneema rope, it has channels that let water siphone into your bands.

    great job. forget the penetration test with 8mm shaft. Considers useful to know the difference that has to 8,5mm!

      +nikos spartopoulos Hmmm ... I just realized I did not add the 6m and 7m penetration tests of the 8mm shaft! Damn it! I will see if I can add it on. The Hunt 8mm shaft passed both 6m and 7m penetration tests.
