    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 5 lety

      Actually it is not as impressive as it looks. Most spearos are actually very good and accurate shooters, but their gun setup and their trigger is what makes them shoot inaccurately. I have a lot of friends that come over and try my guns and they are always amazed at how accurately they can shoot. I really believe that "its the Indian not the Arrow" does not apply with spearguns. How many times have you had a perfect trigger pull on a fish ... yet hit poorly or even missed? I think too many people just blame themselves for a bad shot when it really was not their fault at all.

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 6 lety

      Actually the shaft drop would probably already be almost zero in hunting situations. Not sure why but in the pool the shaft drop is always more than in the sea. Maybe it has something to do with water salinity or maybe it is just because you are usually shooting at a downward angle towards fish and thus gravity doesn't have much of an effect. When I hunt with this setup I never put any elevation adjustment unless am trying to hit a fish at the end of my double wrap.

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 4 lety +1

      You can buy the double roller trigger from Ermessub website. For the mod in this video, it took quite a bit of work. But there is a new DR trigger for the Pathos 1 which is a much easier build and also made by Ermessub. I will see if I can put a video on the mod using that trigger as it is a much more simple modification.

    Love all of your tests and thanks a lot for explaining everything ! I remember you use to recommend the Sporasub america one shaft , but I can't seem to find these online what would you recommend for a Pathos laser open carbon 110 ? 7mm shaft 140cm but what brand ?

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 5 lety +3

      Yes a 140 shaft for a 110 Pathos. Most important thing for accuracy is the trigger, it has to have a predictable let off and has to allow the shaft to go out of the track stable. For shafts @ 140 almost any good 17-4 PH shaft will work well, just put a cone in front of the flopper and tie your line up near the rest tab area. That gives the shaft the best stability during flight and will be the most accurate and will shed less velocity as it travels in the water ... thus more power at impact.

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 6 lety

      All the high handle spearguns should perform well if the trigger holds up. The Sea Sniper depends on mass rather than a high handle to control things. The Andre has several designs but again, I like the high handle as I shoot one handed when I spearfish.

    I’m fairly new to the spear fishing world and I like your reviews, can you explain to me about band lengths? I just bought a pathos carbon laser 110 and 120 with the deangelo 1 handles and I wanted the same setup as you

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 5 lety +2

      The Dangelo 1 with plastic trigger is the better handle. But unfortunately it has a plastic trigger. Best bet would be to get a D1 or D2 handle and upgrade the trigger to the new Ermessub Double Roller trigger specifically designed to be installed on those handles. In testing I got similar results to my mod in this video, but of course the advantage is you don't have to spend a lot of time as I did to install a normal DR trigger in this video (lot of work to get that done!). For bands, best is 2 x 14mm small ID bands stretched at 360% for shafts up to 7mm and then for 7.5mm best is stretch around 380%. For larger shafts best is to move to 14.5mm or even 15mm small ID bands stretched at 380% or 360% if you can't load the 380%. Band stretch is calculated by getting the distance between shark fin to muzzle and x 2 and then divide by 3.6 (for 360%). Good luck on your setup!

Unless you're loading them this way for a specific reason? Thanks again

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 4 lety +1

      Lol! Yes of course I have tried loading back band first, this is especially true with the Sniper Pathos guns as they have front band muzzle wider for front band. But this causes poor shaft stability and seems to lift the tail of the shaft and cause low shooting. About 5cm or 6cm lower shots at 5m with nose entering target down. I still am not sure why that is and maybe can be fixed with band elevators. As it is, if you can find someone that can get the same or better accuracy than I am getting with my setup I will switch in one second ;). I actually do have a video testing both different band loading setups and can see the different impact point, but can't seem to find it ... it is there somewhere on youtube.

    Hey maj, love the videos, but I just can't bring myself to do these big mods, I'm sure something would go wrong, lol. I also have a quick question, If you could choose one or two guns that are good either right out of the box, or with some band or shaft tweaks, which would they be? I'd like something that is good for big reef fish, but also capable of getting into open water hunting, (wahoo, small tuna, kings). I'm on the east coast of america where blue water visibility can be 30+ meters, and reef vis is usually 5-10 meters.
    I'm also on the smaller side regarding upper body strength, so loading some giant 130+ cm gun is pretty much impossible, and even 120's might could prove difficult. Getting into shape could be worth dropping alot of money on a good gun though. I've always used small hip loading guns, but I'm trying to get into freediving and spearfishing more and more, so getting a nice gun would be a good start once I take some freediving classes. Thanks for the informative videos, I'll be here to watch them all!

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 6 lety

      No not really, that is how the shaft came. I actually prefer flopper on bottom, but this is a Sporasub shaft with the MIM flopper ... it is very streamlined and doesn't even need a cone. Some of them have flopper up, but that has no effect on trajectory and gives same results as flopper down. These floppers are a work of art and it is unfortunate that these shafts are discontinued. By far the best 7mm floppered shaft you could buy. The Metal Injection Molding used on the floppers allows them to perfectly hug the shaft perfectly and there are a few minute little details in the flopper that make it perform super well. The metal used is 17-4 ph hardened to 47 HRC ... this allows a very thin profile without sacrificing strength. Whoever designed that shaft deserves the Nobel Prize!

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 5 lety

      The Rob Allen is a low handle speargun, so you cannot push the bands like a high handle speargun. With a low handle gun you need to reduce the band power to prevent muzzle lift (which causes low shots and poor shaft stability). To get band stretch I take the distance from the band slot in muzzle to the shark fin, then I multiply by 2 for two sides … then divide by 3.6 for 360%. This would be the cut length of the band.

    • @bennettbuchanan2162

    • @majdq8

      @@bennettbuchanan2162 I would start with 340% with extra long wishbones and then slowly make the wishbones shorter and try some test shots at a target around 4 or 5 meters. You want to add the maximum amount of power where the shots are not diving. You will notice that once you add too much power your shots will start hitting low … that is a sign that you should back off with the power a little until you get the shaft flying straight.

      If you do not plan to change out the trigger, the Dangelo 1 handle with the plastic trigger is better as the sears will not scratch. But of course a Stainless Steel Box is always better than a Plastic Box. If using the Dangelo 2 trigger with SS box you should change out the trigger with the new Double Roller Ermessub trigger designed for the Pathos D2. It rocks!!!

      No, unfortunately I don't. But all the modifications I made are quite simple and if you look at my handle mod videos you have all the information you need to get the same results I get here with your gun.
