  • Testing the Abellan Denton 120 speargun. Very compact speargun that has a lot of power. Is maybe the best choice for an all around speargun. Tested with several different shafts and band setups. Testing accuracy @ 5 meters and Wahoo penetration @ 6 meters.

    With 120cm band stretch like the Abellan in the video, probably 3 bands 14/14,5 mm would be exceptional with an 8*150 shaft.
    I’m considering this setup or 2*15 small I’d for 8mm shaft

    Dear majdq8.
    I hope you're still active and maybe answer this question.
    You made a great test on the raptor with 2x14.5 sigalsub at 360% with 7.5mm shaft with non shaft drop up to 6 meters!
    I wonder how come the abellan with the 14.5 360% with 7.5mm shaft didn't manage to achieve the same results.
    Thanks for you'r time and efforts.

      Really not sure, but many factors affect shaft drop. Extra overhang can cause the shaft to shoot lower, but sometimes even a tiny difference in flopper shape can also affect. Another factor is spacing of shark fins on the shaft ... that can affect things. Raptor is a very nice gun but I don't like the trigger as the line release is not good ... also the trigger to palm distance is too long causing you to have to reach for the trigger which makes shooting accurately more difficult. I heard Bleutec has since changed these things for the better but I don't have a new Bleutec gun to try.

      Thanks a lot for your answer!!
      Soon i'm going to purchase mythicon argus with 125cm band strech and i'll try to re create the setup of the raptor on him.
      If it'll be possible i'll share the results.
      Thanks again man you are very kind!

    Magdq8, thank you so much. Another great testing video. Really appreciate your time and energy spent on such detailed attitude. Is it any particular reason why the gun did not deserve the 6 meter accuracy test? (like pathos 120 did)

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 8 lety +1

      +Israel FreeDiver Actually it was more due to the problem that it takes way too much time to do these tests. I come back from work and have only a little time before it gets dark and in this case I wanted to try a lot of different band setups and different shafts and see what was optimal. Of course you will have good results with 6 meter accuracy, but this is a very short gun and with 2 wraps of line you are almost at the end of your shooting line at 6 meters. I think this gun is now being called the "Denton 110" now and the new Denton 120 will be 10cm longer with exact shape and size. For sure the extra 10 cm will give you extra range, especially with the heavier shafts.

    • @MB_spearo
      @MB_spearo Před 8 lety +1

      The original setup comes with 8x140cm shaft, I also felt that it is slightly more than the gun can absorb in terms of comfortable recoil and actually I do not need that power in 120cm gun. Totally agree with you that it should be 130cm gun's territory. But why did you choose 150cm shafts and not 140? Isn't it better to spent mass on thickness rather than the overhang of 150. What do you think about it?

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 8 lety +1

      Very simple reason ... I didn't have a 140cm shaft with short flopper :). Actually a 140cm shaft would be better because it would keep shots a little higher ... but many of my shafts have a longer flopper so the flopper sits on the track by about 1 or 2cm if I use a 140cm ... so a 145cm would be better ... but 145cm shafts are hard to come by so I just use the next size which is 150cm shaft.

    Hi Magdq8, thanks a lot for those very interesting videos.
    Did you try the standard shaft & bands setup provide by Abellan (Length shaft =140cm, diameter 8mm - bands 15mm stretch at 3,8)? What is your feeling?

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 8 lety +1

      +spearboy9 The standard setup will always change, but I think for this gun best is a 7mm to 7.5mm shaft. Of course the 8mm shaft did quite well but I think it needs a little more band stretch for the 8mm shaft to get best results. The new setup you mention is using Cressi 15mm bands ... I really doubt they will perform better than the Primeline 14.5mm small ID bands. The setup in this video is really amazing and tested last week hunting fish and took 11 shots and caught 12 fish :) One shot went completely through one fish and caught the one behind it. Very impressive power and almost impossible to miss a shot as it is pin point accurate.

      Hi Majd, many thanks for the dedication put into your tests, the results of which, are often the subject of heated discussions with my spearo friends. I have the old Denton 120, and prefer using the original 140x8mm since I already have 3 of them and spares are not easy to get in Panama. The Primeline small ID 14mm @ x360 with the SpearPro sinthetic strainer and 4 com of dynema do not seem to have enough power. Shall I shorten them to x380 or x400 or add a third rubber x360? I could not find the 14.5mm you seem to prefer for heavier shafts. Many thanks in advance and best regards

    Hey mate,I am looking at buying a raptor 105.Just wanted you opinion,Would I double wrap that gun??\And what are your thoughts on double wrapping accuracy.I heard the it can pull the spear of center at the end of the shot.

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 8 lety

      Yes of course you can double wrap ... the Raptor 105 has about 112cm of band stretch ... so properly setup you will get plenty of power and accuracy all the way to the end of two wraps. You can check the test I did on the Sporasub 105 or the Sigalsub 110 to see that.

    Hey mate excellent test as always I strongly consider investing on that beauty but i am little concern with it's overall size if you can compare it to an other speargun the Denton 120 is equal to a 110 gun? If so 120 is band stretch right?

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 6 lety

      No, the Denton 120 has 132 cm band stretch.

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 6 lety

      Actually ... this gun is now called a 110 and it has 122cm band stretch. Abellan guns have changed their sizing and it has caused some confusion. A lot of people were disappointed with how small the gun was and thus the gun sizing went up one generation. When I bought this gun it was called the 120 and now it is called the Denton 110.

    • @georgekorros5659
      @georgekorros5659 Před 6 lety

      majdq8 so the new Denton 120 in terms of length is compared to an 120-125 cm gun right?Thus the new 110 Denton is similar to the one you are testing in the video

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 6 lety

      Yes the new Denton 120 is similar in size to a normal 120 or 125 gun. The one in this video is similar to a 110 but it has a 122cm band stretch.

    hi majdq8
    i have same speargun but i want to use 14.5 mm sigalsub
    what do you think it will be

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 8 lety +1

      +Mohammed Althani Halla Mohammad ... yes the Sigalsub 14.5mm will work perfect. Sigalsub bands are made by Primeline so same bands. Of course the diameter of the bands and the hardness of the rubber can vary from batch to batch. For lighter shafts ... 7.2mm and less, thinner bands give better performance. For heavier shafts you can go for the 14.5mm bands.

      +majdq8 cant wait. I just bought one and gonna bring it to Baja. Ive been using a 7.5 mil shaft and it shoots pretty far with 3 14.5 mil bands.

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 8 lety +1

      I didn't like the C4 muzzle and the trigger. The muzzle and trigger were killing velocity of shaft. I 3D printed a few parts for the muzzle and changed the trigger to another C4 trigger with line release at back of trigger. Results were awesome ... much better power and accuracy.

    • @Batangkangkalo
      @Batangkangkalo Před 8 lety

      +majdq8 i definitely have much to learn because i have not seen the difference. ive tried several carbons. i wish my ocean born was open track. but anyways the c4 had a couple of 3d printed parts. it seems to shoot straight for my kind of hunting in hawaii

    Which band do you load first?

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  Před 6 lety +1

      Always short band first and long band last. Doing otherwise seems to make the shaft unstable with low shot. You can see this here czcams.com/video/BRauN9-Rn9U/video.html
