I certainly hope that there is indeed a political awareness of the dangers that would have to be faced if indeed Russia wins the war in Ukraine. We would all be much more reliant on protection from America and in view of recent events that may not be a safe hypothesis. We in Europe need to step up regarding our own defence and lets be perfectly honest about this, we can all learn a lot from Ukraine regarding that very subject. Military structures and developement within the forces are by nature conservative. Thing are done by the manual because that's the way it worked in the past, or the manual wouldn't have been written. This war has proven, without the shadow of a doubt that new methods, tactics, equipment and technology are essential within the NATO alliance. Who better to teach and inform us than Ukrainians who have had first hand experience.

Free Russians are probably better prioritizing Ukrainian borders with Ukrainians. Because a sustainable economic foundation is going to be necessary for a war ravaged Ukrainian country in the long term. Russians I assume will be under even worse economic conditions and Russian development will proceed backwards. Putin & his regime have destroyed all credibility with the west.

The futility and insanity of war. HAVE WE LEARNED NOTHING? You gotta respect the Ruskies in their own front garden. At least Dr.Trump knows that much. No good being a sore loser, bc of Syria, by opening a front in Russia’s garden. That just says that you want to invade, or threaten to invade Russia. If you’re going to fight Russia, you should at least pick somewhere that’s more favourable for yourself. Saying, “But that just shows how powerful the USA is”, is complete nonsense. It just shows how powerfully in debt you are and getting more so. Russia isn’t Iraq or Afghanistan, it’s RUSSIA. They have ancient culture, are very intelligent and very very powerful in their own garden. They defeated Napoleon and Hitler’s land armies. They threatened the Japanese navy, sailing around the whole world to do so. Ok they lost that fight. But to even attempt it, shows their courage, determination and ingenuity. They put the first human in space and the first orbiting satellite. THIS IS RUSSIA! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING? You’re jeopardising NATO and frittering lives away, for literally no benefit whatsoever, other than to get one up on Russia, bc of Syria. That’s not smart, it’s incredibly stupid and cold blooded, towards the innocent lives destroyed. I used to be against Ritter, Macgregor and co. But the more I think about it, after time going by. The more I’m coming to my senses and realising, they’ve got a dam good point. It might take longer than they say and they might not make their case, as well as could be, but their underlying message is the right one. War is pointless, futile, unnecessary and insane. It’s a fight that we don’t need to have, so why are we doing it? If a fight is on the cards, there’s much better ways, to go about it than this. Or try other methods, of containing any threats and challenges that are posed to the west. Russia and it’s allies leaders might even be acting like their worried, but really their laughing. Russia hasn’t sent its best military into Ukraine, this is its B team, or C team even. They wouldn’t be that foolish, in case a major war broke out directly with another major player. So this is all basically a great charade and a way of saving face, for Russia’s victory over the USA in Syria. I hope I’ve sufficiently laboured the point? Vote Trump = vote peace.

The Tale of Jack Kiev. Once upon a time, there was a small boy, called Jack Kiev. He was 12 years old and was an orphan. When his mother died recently, he inherited her cottage, with a little bit of land. He worked hard all day every day, cultivating his plot and producing a good yield. He had some extra vegetables and chickens, so he took them to the market for sale. At the market, the elder sons and daughters, of the Otan Family, came and bought his produce. They asked the boy, “Who is in charge of the business, as we need a regular supply? We would like to discuss business and come to some arrangement.” Jack said, “I’m in charge of the business! For I am an orphan and I will supply your needs.” So they signed a contract and Jack’s spirits were lifted, for he was quite sad and lonely. Once a week he went to the Otan household and delivered the wares that they needed and they paid him kindly. Sometime soon after, the Otan Family asked Jack to help with some chores, cutting grass and painting the shed. The Otan house, was very large with many rooms, for they had 16 sons and 17 daughters, who were always kind to Jack, so they became good friends. Jack was overjoyed with finding friendship with the Otan Family. Jack was always hardworking and never failed to be productive. As his own homestead and finance grew, he bought some sheep and reared lambs. Old Father Sam Otan was pleased with Jack. So when Jack turned 14, he made a promise to him. “When you turn 16, you can marry, whichever of my daughters that you find to be most beautiful and you will be my Son!” Jack nearly fainted and cried aloud, “Thank you Father Sam! God has truly blessed me! May Heaven and Earth hold dear to your promise.” One month later, an angry bear from the forest, came upon Jack’s cottage and ravaged his flock and stole some sheep. Jack was mortified and ran to the Otan house. “Help help! There’s a bear at my home, who’s killed my sheep!” The Otan Family were shocked and said, “Don’t worry we will stand by you and help to fight the bear.” So they sent two of the younger sons, who brought their slings and spears and went with Jack to fight the bear. But the bear was too big and strong for them to kill it. But they managed to scare the bear enough, so that it went away. “Thank you for your help!” said Jack and the two sons went back to their home. A couple of weeks passed by and the angry bear came back to Jack’s cottage, killing and eating some lambs. Jack ran to the Otans, “Help help! The bear has come back!” So three of the sons, went with Jack and they all fought against the bear. This time the bear hurt Jack and killed one of the sons and then went back to his lair. The sons went back to their home and reported the news. Two more weeks passed by and the bear came back to Jack’s cottage. It caused great damage to the chicken shed, broke some fences and killed all the chickens. Jack ran back to the Otans and this time, four of the sons, all armed with new swords and shields, went with Jack to fight the bear. They fought for many hours but the bear was too big and strong, even for all of the sons. The bear was enraged, bc it’s foot was hurt by them. It killed two of the sons and wounded the others and then went back to its lair. Two weeks later, the bear and its mate, came upon Jack’s cottage. They killed all the remaining lambs and knocked over a burning lantern, the lantern caught fire to the barn and store houses, destroying all the produce, This time the bears quickly left, before they could be attacked. Jack ran to the Otans, “Help the bears have attacked my home and the place is on fire!” So the Otan Family all quickly went and helped to extinguish the blaze. Five of the sons all stayed with Jack, “We’ll help to rebuild the farm and this time we’ll stay with you, to guard against the bears. They all worked hard to rebuild the farm and the Otans pitched their tent next to Jack’s cottage. But the bears came in the night and killed three of the sons as they slept. Jack and the other two sons ran back to Old Sam Otan and reported the news. Old Sam Otan wept bitterly in his grief and the shock nearly killed him. “Right this time, take some horses and wear armour and buy some new lances and we’ll finish the bears off for good. So six of the sons saddled their horses and went to find the bears. They rode to the forest and crossed the stream that runs from the mountains. They rode for four days and eventually found the bears trail. The eldest son said, “Right we’ll camp here for the night and at dawn we’ll attack the bears. What could possibly go wrong?” The bears caught the scent of the Otan party and came upon them in the darkness. The great bear with his mate and all their cubs with them. They killed all the horses and all of the sons as well, except one who barely managed to escape. He ran all the way home and reported the news. Old Father Otan, his wife and remaining children were stricken with grief. They held council and after many days, they came up with a plan. “Right!” said Old Sam Otan, “I’ve had enough of this great bear! I’ve lost 11 of my sons and we only have 5 left. 7 of my daughters are strong and old enough to fight, as well as any man. We’ll all go to Jack’s cottage together that makes 12 and myself 13. We’ll make traps and build strong fences and walls around the farm.” So they all went to Jack’s farm and did as they had planned and two weeks later the great bear, came to Jack’s farm with his family. The bear saw how strong the defences were, he hesitated and looked across the valley. He saw the Otan house with no walls and no one there, except some young girls and old mother Otan. He had grown tired of the taste of lambs, chickens and horses and now he wanted something else. So the great bear and his family went back to the forest and waited for night to come. He took his family to the Otan house and then charged in with speed and fury. All the bears smashed the doors and windows open and ran through the house, but there was no one there, the house was empty. All of a sudden there was a blast of hunting horns and a great cacophony of noise. The house was surrounded by Jack and all the Otans. Old mother Otan had been warned, by her pet falcon, of an approaching danger and had left with her daughters and gone to her sister’s house. She had sent a carrier pigeon to Old Sam Otan at Jack’s cottage, who ambushed the bears. “Fire!” Screamed Old Sam Otan at the top of his voice and they all hurled their burning torches at the house. Some of the bears ran out and were cut down as they ran and the house burned to the ground. Old Sam Otan and his company went through the ashes and counted all the dead bears. “They’re all here!” said the eldest son, after laying the bears bodies out. “No wait a minute, there’s one missing!” They all scouted around the area, but the mate of the late great bear, was nowhere to be found..... The end?

I agree wirh Mr Ponomarev on his assessment of the FBK (the Navalny foundation). Since the start of the war they've devolved into a Bolshevik-like sect and what they're doing is more detrimental to the overall anti-Putin opposition. The recent controversy around their "documentary" about the 1990s is just one of the more damaging episodes.

Ponomarev was always skeptical about Navalny’s charisma and the hero worship that surrounded him. His concern was that the russian people would idolize him and if he had a chance to get into power, they would simply make him another Czar and forget about regular elections. Who would want to run against him in four years or eight years? Then eventually, he would become like putin, absolute power corrupting absolutely. Legislative reforms would not be done and russia would fall back into corruption.

The focus on the power relations within the Kremlin, Moscow, and St. P misses an important element in political economic dynamics of the Russian Federation. The channel "Good Times Bad Times" / "The Twenties Report" clearly lays out the fractures between the regions and the center -- notably the "deal" the Kremlin has with its (imposed) regional elites which supports these elites in political and person power in exchange for continued financial transfers from the regions to the center. The Kremlin manages this balancing act so far. But the balancing act is being stressed by the financial burden of the war and can this can suddenly exceed the Kremlin's capacity to control things if things begin to wobble in more than one region at a time.

BE CAREFUL W/ THIS Chappee JONATHAN; He is a russian "politician" in the classic "komisar" mold!,- I questioned him on Mriya Report almost 2 yrs. Ago, (when it was still in Canadian 🇨🇦 🍁 hands, inspired by Canadian Operation Unifier and The Canadian Armed forces; this dude praised Sergei Lavrov as a "swell dude", just an "every-day wine-swilling, caviar chomping, cigar-puffing (oh, and Guitar playing!) good ol' 'Russian shishlik!"- Just note: his "rose-tinted" 👋 view of the INSIDIOUS (and invidious!) TRUMP REPUBLICAN horses-assery in the U S. HOUSE;;) - + read his highly questionable interpretation of Polish AND Hungarian internal politics! THIS GUY IS PLAYING FOR ONE TEAM - HIS OWN!

Things are not always simple in wars. The Germans were the only ones, who helped Finland in the Continuation War. We were out of food, out of weapons. The Jews were at war with other Finns and Germany did not intervene. The Germans also did not prevent Jews from visiting synagogues on the front. But in the end the the Lapland War was fought because we had to drive the Germans out of the country. Well, the Germans burned the houses in Lapland.

It's hugely hypocritical for Sullivan to ask Ukraine to stop attacks on Russian refineries - since in the first Iraq war the US bombed Iraqi oil infrastructure for 37 DAYS STRAIGHT, with over 50,000 sorties flown by the coalition before one soldier set foot on the ground

NATO countries do not have to act in unison if Article5 is called. As I understand it, if one country declines others can still act. Correct me if i am wrong.

The last chance to veto is when the nation joined - after that, if Article 5 is activated by any member the NATO declared forces of all members come under the direct orders of the current NATO command structure, at least as I've always understood the treaty obligations. So they can't decline without leaving NATO - which they can, of course, do although that is almost certainly a one-way trip.

The most difficult thing for me is, that Finland did not receive help from the world, when Stalin attacked Finland. In the Continuation War, all other countries declared, that they were at war with Finland, except the USA. Finland was involved in three wars during World War II.

Couldn't happen to a more deserving group. Actually, "fixing" corruption in the military in the middle of a war may be counter productive, taking out experienced officers. I guess the question is are the corrupt doing more good than harm.

As an American sad to say this might be the last aid until after the election sometime in early ‘25, if then depending. Meanwhile Israel will dominated the attention of the real powers and providers of weapons. Israel is today and tomorrow Ukraine is yesterday and has no lobby powerful enough to move public opinion. Hopefully Biden wins with a solid congressional majority then as I said 2025 if then.

Thank you to your guest, Ilya, and thank you, Jonathan. This was interesting to see Ilya's perspectives with his background knowledge that he obviously *would* have. 44:50 I agree with what Ilya says there, in that the fundamental reforms of russian statehood needs to be done, and that it is in russia's best interests to build better international relationships with the rest of the world; rather than constantly waging wars that are all-consuming and obstruct positive progress in that respect. This is why we in the west did learn from our past to have foresight, we learnt that empires and imperialism stand in the way of economic progress, more so in modern times, especially in the 21st century where it is more of a challenge to keep up, on the international trade stage in a global sense. Military yes, needs financing, but wars cost far more than having one's own armed forces at the ready to defend one's nation initially; in case of invasion. There's a huge difference economically... and no nation can predict the unexpected setbacks. Take the pandemic and its impact on the global economy... then imagine being in the middle of financing your war during that globally crippling set of circumstances. The timing of this full-scale invasion so soon after the pandemic isn't a coincidence, IMO. But I'm not so sure those plans made to invade in 2022, were properly thought out during such heavily restrictive confinement. The world bounced back very fast from that pandemic, faster than might have been anticipated. Definitely a hefty reform for Ilya's state of origin would open up a brighter future than the one it has now. Internationally, putin has brought huge disgrace to russia, in the eyes of a massive percentage of the world! Why restrict the economic potential of one's nation by waging a war that will freeze the ability to maximise international income? putin doesn't have a functioning crystal ball, clearly! And right now, russia has likely put itself in a very vulnerable and weak position because while its military are away invading another country, its military aren't available to defend russia; should any of its alleged ally nations decide they want a chunk of russia! Tired, it's morning now and I should sleep - Thanks again, Jonathan, this was thought-provoking, obviously!

Methinks putin, like all abusers, be they domestic or political abusers, is riding on a wing and a prayer, risk-taking myopically, and didn't give too much thought to extremely long-term massive war budgeting. Mostly they live for today and don't even see the bridges; let alone how they're going to cross them when they come to them! A *real* chink in one's armour, that is!!!
