Don't sleep on these controllers for the Steam Deck
The Steam Deck has a built in controller. In fact, it's the best controller I've ever used. However, sometimes I play the Deck while it's docked... and what then? What controller should you use to played in docked mode? That's exactly what this video is meant to be.

Yeah In terms of PC or even Xbox gaming there is nothing special about the Series controllers the only changes those controllers made vs the Xbox one controller is that they took the disc looking dpad attachment form the Xbox Elite series 1 controller and stuck it on on top of making the switch from micro USB to USB C in terms of the charging port. I love my Guilkit KK3 max controller and I use it all the time for PC gaming. I still have my KingKong 2 pro controller which I switched it back to the Nintendo configuration so I can play my 3D Nintendo games. I liked my 8bitdo ultimate controller however I don't like the DS4 style triggers on them because they are so uncomfortable to use with some games and I got so used to the Xbox one style of triggers. I have an 8bitdo Sn30pro+ which I use for 2D games and SNES games. The way Microsoft is going with Xbox I don't think we will get another generation of Xbox controller to have similar features as the Dual Sense controller unless Guilikit or 8bitdo somehow make their own version of the tech without infringing on Sony.

6:44 Yeah, unfortunately, the only controllers you can actually customize those kind of back buttons for on a per game basis is the Xbox Pro and PlayStation Pro controller (and of course, the steam controller/steam deck controller.) If only having back buttons wasn't a pro feature, then maybe, just maybe, it would be part of the generic X input driver.

As a fellow controller afficionado, mostly agree with this list. :) Though I will say that the killer feature the Xbox One/Series gamepads have is easily, cheaply replaceable batteries. My go-to gamepad for development is my PS5 controller, and I've had to replace the battery once already, and my previous favorite, the PS4 controller I've had to do it twice. It's not hard, but it's not trivial or cheap either. I suspect a lot of these ended up in a landfill because of it. :( I suspect there's a reason why 360 gamepads are still around, and that's because a lot of them still work when you can just replace the batteries.

When ever I see people fight over X-box or PS5 controllers, X-box never has anything good to say, part from it's cheaper, but I would say they should be complaining that they are paying for something that is overpriced, it's a little cheaper than an PS5 controller, but it's basically an X-box 360 controllers, they should be complaining not defending it, the Switch Pro Controller is cheaper and it's also better.

The Steam controller is by far the best controller for PC ever made. I do think PS5 Dual Sense is the best for gaming but the Steam controller can be set up to be the best PC input i didn't use a mouse and keyboard for YEARS and only used the Steam controller to do everything on my computer. I do kinda hate that I don't still have an option in steam for the old steam controller split onscreen keyboard. But, I even dabbled in using unreal engine when i was trying to learn game development and the Steam controller was perfect for that. It is the most multipurpose controller ever and I will stand by that until something (probably from valve) surpasses it.

I've had the L/R buttons break on a couple of my steam controllers. They are plastic leaf springs, and surprisingly fragile to bumps or shocks. It's only a matter of time before they all break. Fortunately Valve has made complete 3D models available, including STL files of each part. Theoretically I can now 3D print replacements... I'll just keep using my dual shock 4 controllers.

I don't think I've agreed more with a video EVER. The prevalence of people just using xbox controllers on PC because they're used to it and "it works" is holding the entire industry back. Why hasn't xbox included gryo? I use a DualSense for 3d games and a 8bitdo pro 2 for platformers. Imho it's the best combo.

I like how your comments on the 360 controller being a "controller designed for Halo 3" and "having a crappy D-pad" feel spot-on, but then when talking about it being a controller from a bygone era that needs to be left behind, you give praise to the GameCube controller? Talk about a controller designed specifically for one game with a crappy D-pad. Let's not forget horrible face button placement, a c-stick nub that's a terrible substitute for a proper 2nd thumbstick, and uncomfortable triggers with too much travel distance.
