Nintendo sueing yuzu is ridiculous
I'm forking and making an offline backup of the code while I still can
Why? Seems completely reasonable from a business perspective.
@@raskolnikov6443 it does not harm their bottom line in any way
The only reason for yuzu is to pirate Switch games. Why shouldn’t they go after them?
@@raskolnikov6443 Yes, but there's court precedent putting Yuzu on the right side of the law. Also Yuzu contains no Switch code, and you have to provide your own security keys. Nintendo doesn't have a case here, but they might be able to drain Tropic Haze of all resources, preventing further development and shutting down their site and distribution method.
Not that it will matter. Yuzu is FOSS, so it will get forked so fast. We'll just get "Re-Yuzu" with a more ambiguous, less centralized development team contributing to it.
Nintendo isn't looking to win the actual case, just to bleed out the Yuzu devs so they can't afford to continue developing the emulator.
If this works, then other emulators like Ryujinx or Citra will be next on the chopping block.
Then Citra should start working on them encryption protections so they don’t fall into its current similar piracy promotions like yuzu
@livesinalazywonderland4021 all emulators should start working on that
Citra was by the same devs and is also dead now
It would be really interesting if Nintendo intentionally leaked Tears Of The Kingdom only to use that as some sort of evidence to takedown emulation...
Interesting, but stupid. It's still a piss-poor argument. Can you successfully sue Corvette because a guy robbed a bank and used one as the getaway vehicle? I'll use their word: it "facilitated" the theft. They'd be better off claiming the thieves' ISP is culpable because it "facilitates" all the data transfers. But I'm guessing Comcast and others manage to have more money than Nintendo, meaning Nintendo would not dare swing at them.
Not out of the realm of possibility
Ye wouldn't be surprised either.
They prob made a spoof discord account and joined the server too 💀
Spoken like a true Trump supporter 😅
If you are going to sue Yuzu, better sue Windows, Linux and Android. As far as I am aware these OSes allow Yuzu to run. Better sue Intel, AMD and Nvidia as that software runs on that hardware too....
This.
Even low IQ would sue the source and not the environment. Nintendo got this bro, yuzu devs are done
Makes no sense but thats the average CZcams snark comment so whatever, good night, piracy is bad
@@livesinalazywonderland4021 so tell me how will you expect to play NES, SNES, Atari, Sega, Dreamcast, and other retro games long after the hardware is no longer available (collectors hording them, hardware is broken beyond repair, and just unavailable). How do you expect those games to be preserved for future generations? Game preservation is something that needs to be addressed now and implemented in a manner that benefits everyone, not just the big corporations. Microsoft's back compatibility across console generations and Gamepass digital library is just one of those ways to preserve those games. Nintendo just sues you until you run out of money or end up in jail.
Don’t forget Apple is a major member of the HDMI forum
Apple is in all types of connection forum.
The funny part about the HDMI Forum being stupid, is that Display Port is already taking over in popularity. As most GPUs are coming with one HDMI port, and the rest as DP ports
True the only reason I still use HDMI is that TVs don't support DP.
Are display ports supposed to be better than HDMI?
@@joker6558 It's kinda hard to say, it depends on the version of each one
As far as I'm aware display port is only for computers and HDMI is for TV's so that's why graphics cards have lots of display ports but only one HDMI you're usually not using multiple TV's as a multi monitor setup that's why it's called a multi monitor setup not a multi TV or multi display setup.
Most? Several 4000 series Nvidia GPUs have three HDMI and two DP, and 6000 series AMD cards also had at least a couple of HDMIs (and only one DP port). HDMI, if anything, has been getting stronger, as previously Gsync and Freesync weren't available via them (now they are supported through newer video cards through the HDMI interface). I like how DP isn't run by tyrants, but in terms of actual usage... there are so many monitors and TVs that lack DP, and from memory consoles also lack DP ports.
I do wish Steam would go for a non-web approach to its clients, especially the store. The react framework they use has felt sluggish for *years*.
While I agree, the Steam UI has felt sluggish ever since they moved to the web style interface, I think that for them the convenience and supportability of being able to use essentially the same code between their UI and the straight website interface outweighs the sluggishness. I wonder if they might just code their own browser instead of using Chromium just so that they can implement only the things that they need to which would probably improve performance over a general purpose browser base like Chromium.
@@wormspeaker There's a lot of cross-platform frameworks (Flutter & React-Native are two popular ones) that would let them get away with a single codebase for all but their web interface (hell, even their web interface could just be a web app within one of those frameworks).
A lot of work, though, but so is maintaining a decade-old embedded chromium app!
Probably not. After all, Microsoft Edge is considered far more performant than Chrome, despite both being based on Chromium.
Even if you say its "sluggish", it feels far better than the EA app or Epic Games store
@wormspeaker They could learn a thing or two from the Telegram applications. They too needed it to be cross platform and wanted it to look and feel the same everywhere so they basically made a few UI components(html/css/js I believe) themselves and used those in the respective native platforms they wanted to build the apps for. So the UI looks and feels mostly the same on every platform while still using the benefits of a native platform.
We need an Emulation Defense Fund for sure.
I don’t know if proton’s logo is better than electron’s but it’s definitely more positive. 😂
You've adequately described why it is I no longer play any of nintendo's games.
so need to pirate them then?
@@hepwo91222more like no need to play them
@@hepwo91222to each their own, who wants a garbage switch? Nintendo is always behind on hardware and want to charge as much as current high end gear. The company is a joke and the only thing that keeps them afloat is their exclusives.
PC does what Nontendont.
@@hepwo91222 I don't play them at all, period.
@@nwheatcraftthats a honest response instead of being like people who hate nintendo only to pirate there games. If I don't like a company then I want nothing to with them or there product I apreciate your honest.
Qt is also the interface for Teslas and certain Bosch tools
With you talking about the new Chromium helping to speed the Steam UI, I have noticed that half the time, my Deck will take minutes to respond for some reason. Haven't quite traced it down. ...though once I get in game, it's fine.
The steam Linux runtime also got a Logo
Community Legal fund for yuzu devs should be the way in order to fight Nintendo and its frivolous demands. It's simply ridiculous. 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Anyone know of a valid gofundme? I’ll donate if it’s legit.
If they do a give send go or just a PayPal donations link I'll give money. Maybe something like how Kiwi Farms has a massive defense fund all from users and fans
Maybe you should have funded encryption protections in yuzu while you had the chance from all that savings you did when you downloaded the games for free. Pirates in a nutshell, the yuzu project is over
Already seeing HDR output when my SteamDeck is connected to my LG TV. It looks great.
Displayport is the preferred connector for PCs, unfortunately it's not common on TVs otherwise I'd never consider using HDMI since its features always lag behind Displayport's.
This is the hold up for me. If I'm going to grab one cable for on the go use, it's going to be HDMI. I think some newer TVs have a Display port connector, but no idea how prevalent it is, whereas pretty much every TV over the last two decades has an HDMI port.
In a facebook group that i’m in, people are saying theres a problem to the update and it makes their deck boot when turning on to the old vertical screen orientation bios menu. 😢 I’m still ganna hold for a while on this update.
By Nintendo's same logic, they could sue Microsoft because their OS allows pirates to run pirated software.....They are getting a little nuts, even for nintendo
yet still no SteamOS iso released for desktop users..
please Valve just please cmon release it for us already ;(
I don’t think they ever will. I think they are going for an apple approach instead of a Microsoft approach
@@joker6558 they still claim they will
and on other hand - it is still arch linux, they cannot fully close it xd
Pretty much any Arch based distro with steam will give you most of what you want, minus game suspension. The closest would be Chimera OS in terms of overall software suite geared towards gaming. Might take a look at Garuda OS and Nobara
@@whydoyouaskdude thing is - i still rather use something supported straight out from valve instead of community one like chime - i sitl remember how HoloIso was ditched :/
Steam os is buggy trash.
There's that babyface that we love; keep up the good work.
I hope Yuzu wins. Any other outcome would be a travesty. And emulation is imperative for game culture preservation!
True, Nintendo doesn’t want you playing old games because they couldn’t sell their new games, which are garbage, on their new systems, which are equally garbage.
@@sushi_wolf That doesn't make much sense since a lot of their old games are available on the Switch.
@@Moshugaani Only a fraction of a fraction of them, and only through an overpriced subscription service.
@@praetorxyn But the titles that are the most acclaimed are available none the less. Sushi Wolf's claim that they're keeping their best games hidden because they know that their new games are inferior is ridiculous.
The remote play updates have been great,
I have been playing Helldivers 2 via remote play due to wanting higher frames and graphics and I always had to change the brightness and sometimes would experience a persistent stuttering that wouldn't go away until I reset the stream, those issues are now gone after this update
however I still am unable to bring up the on screen keyboard while using remote play still which is a bummer
The main reason so many people pirated Tears of the kingdom is because it looks SO SIMILAR to the previous game. People including myself wanted to see if it was actually worth it. And it honestly really isn’t regardless of Nintendos efforts to make it a “successful sequel”. Nintendo needs to get sued in all honesty, a boycott for their business is WAYYY overdue as predicted.
does hdr have really an impact on performance? I dont think so but I cant confrimed it.
Maybe in its current implementation
Thanks for the news!
In case others have experienced this, the latest Steam deck update, completely formatted my as card causing me to lose almost 1TB of data. I heard the trick is to eject your sd card, update, and then reconnect it. I didn’t and had to reinstall my data which 1TB was my monthly cap lol
Having some (mostly negligible) chemistry background, the Proton logo strikes me as kinda weird. Like, cool that the nucleus is just one particle (a proton), but why the heck there are two electrons orbiting it? Well, I can at least justify it as being a 1-negative hydrogen ion, which does happen here and there (though in most compounds it's gonna be a simple covalent bond really).
Also NVK just reached full, conformant support for all Vulkan versions! In the past year I was speculating that Valve is waiting with the general SteamOS release for the Nvidia proprietary drivers to no longer be needed, and I guess that's the case now lol
And it's stuff like this that's why i use displayport, plus it's usually ahead of hdmi anyways.
Hi did the new steam update brock your steam deck it did to mime but the fan is on and running with the screen is just black it been like that for 3 days
Did the latest update also break decky loader?? I don’t wanna have to reinstall and remake my theme again AND lose vibrantdeck 😭
I didn't notice anything broken last night. Pretty sure I deleted shadercache with decky last night too. I didn't even update manually. I turned on my deck & it just updated xx
@@Kennosuke88 thanks bro! yea mine updated automatically too; pulled me out of a Tekken 8 match and restarted the entire system it was wild.. only update left is this latest one.. and I had to reinstall decky.. hoping I don’t lose it again
@ryantheradical unfortunately I think its a common thing. It broke my dual boot again so had to "reinstall steam os" from a recovery drive. Its all working fine now
@@ryantheradical Ye I was surprised to find alot of the quick access tab updated & thought to myself....Huh must of been a stable update?.
The stable channel on decky has been pretty good when it comes to valve's updates. I've only had it break like twice on me within however many updates we got from steam.
It seems to be the beta & preview updates that break decky most often 👍
@@buddybleeyes that's a pain man, glad you got it sorted anyway 👍
The decks software is pretty stable these days. When the deck first came out I had so many random crashes, was well annoying. Got the 1tb oled now with so much emulation on it it's insane. 👌
I don't see Nintendo going full bore on a lawsuit like this unless they have an ace up the sleeve.
Yeah, money and the agenda of making more.
@@jarod1701 Nintendo has a lot to lose if this does not go their way, especially if they are using such "frivolous" accusations as I've heard being thrown about. They were content to just threaten or send C&Ds before because that was enough of a legal threat. The fact that they skipping directly to sue means they think they can win this, and that they have some condemning evidence against Yuzu. (Or at least they think they do)
@@TheFrantic5 If they have condemning evidence they would rather have a lot to gain, wouldn't they?
@@jarod1701 They have a lot to lose if they lose, and a lot to win if they win. That's why there was a legal cold war for so long (as neither side wanted to force the issue), and why it makes me believe Nintendo has an ace up their sleeve that makes them believe they can win a decisive victory if they force the lawsuit.
Why am I just now noticing proton as the quantum physics and not a gaming thing lol
I swear the new steam deck client update made my steam deck playable for the first time ever. In games where I would get crashes all the time the steam deck will still stutter and freeze for a bit but then gets right back to the game. I was getting crashes in games from 2010 and full system crashes at that so it's about time that the performance got fixed at least for me
"Almost slap-like" Why almost? This is exactly a slap suit.
I was curious what that logo was in my Steam Deck downloads last night.
Realizing it was Plasma now 😅
I was super surprised the first time I visited your website. I legit thought I accidentally clicked the wrong link. A Linux dude made this website??? The Linux community needs you badly.
Totally agree on the "pirated copies don't equal lost income", I've been saying for years that pirates would just not buy those games anyway. Also -and I say for experience from when I was in school- when you have such big availability of titles for free... you end up playing a little bit and abandon them. I wouldn't really consider that a loss, as I wouldn't buy a game I am intentioned to play to completion. Also there is a counter argument that pirated copies might work as advertisement for legal ones in the future, i mean some of these pirates will play a pirated copy, and when they have disposable income in the future they'll repay the debt by purchasing copies
I just wish they would fix the casting/streaming ability from my PC Steam client to SD. Whatever they did broke it about a month ago.
not only did they fix remote play, you no longer have to choose between hardware accel being way too dark and no hardware accel not having a working overlay. now if they just get HDR going in remote play i can get read of moonlight. (lower latency and better quality options would be swell too but ill take just HDR support),.
Displayport is great. Shame 75" displayport TVs and 4K displayport receivers are not a thing.
We need them to add the display safe mode feature from steam os, to big picture mode for windows, could literally build an entire episode of reason why this needs to happen immediately. AMD is bout to fall out over resolution and hdmi ports.
Unfortunately, there are almost no TV with Free Open Source DP entry.
BUT I suppose AMD will share their code with Steam and other partners and accept commits in a pseudo open source (with ND) development.
I think it would be a good move to start selling AMD TV with AMD APU, Plasma big screen a Steam (or AMD) Controller 2 based on the Steam Deck layout and only DP entries, in batches of 10.000 units (minimum) and selling them in batches of 10k to the public.
Definitely liking the smash button.
They may say they updated the embedded chromium but i still can't log into my Epic account for non Steam games.
A big update will be when games using anti cheat start working .
Always a way around it bud because the hackers work harder than the companies, sorry but good luck.
I mean. I know the Stache is gone, but I still see it. I STILL SEE IT!
Off topic: but I think univerism is bugged on steamdeck, I tried playing it the other day and it didn't respond and the main menu was bugged
I do feel it works be hilarious and good if we could crowd find their defence in court. Win and thus set some case law for the future.
That would actually be the very best thing for the community.
I still have issue with my display port on my Samsung Odyssey Ark monitor with my steam deck. It so flaky. I gave up on HMDI with my steam deck.
All my switch games on my Deck I physically own on the switch... I even make it a point to keep the cartridges in my deck case lol. I even sold breath of the wild a little while ago and deleted it off my deck :S
I was about to click the like button, but then you suggested doing so. Your stats will show me clicking it when you made the suggestion, but that isn't the reason.
I think a lot CZcamsrs often naturally ask for likes at a point where viewers will already be giving them.
Yo, uh, as of today yuzu is gone, after a MASSIVE settlement. WTF dude.
Usb-c is capable of transmitting video. I can connect my samsung phone to my portable monitor with a single usb-c to usb-c cable
Under the hood so to speak, that uses the DisplayPort protocol if I remember right!
Unless steam deck update upgrades the apu to have the radeon 780m igpu it is not a major update
So I will say that the whole nintendo debacle is ridiculous and insane.
I was a fan of their systems. I have the OG, the SNES, Gamecube, Wii, DS, 3DS XL. The thing is that I began to dislike their business practices. The DMCA takedowns of fan games that made improvements, the lack of support for previoys titles into the new systems. I mean, look at what they did to the 3DS when they shut the store down. People found a way to prolong the life of the system by offering mods to it. And what the suits do about it? Offer a release to stop that option in it's tracks even though they were no longer going to allow easy purchasing options for their games.
Yeah, I went the pirating route. I got tired of going through the BS route of jumping to the company's beat. I want convenience and practicality. And doing it all from the Deck offers that option.
Sell all that garbage make a good profit and get yourself a pc and deck. Have a nice day and f Nintendo!
@sushi_wolf I did get one. Both the LCD and OLED versions. As well as a Lenovo Legion Go. 😂
Isn't Displayport 2.0 is as good as hdmi 2.1?
Like Jim Sterling has said several times in the past "pirating nintendo games is always morally acceptable"
100%
You missed the most importabt update. Control over the brightness of the charging LED. No longer am I blinded when I charge the deck on my nightstand.
Please shrink proton now... my disk is full really dont want to replace the ssd
Because of The boom of handhelds PC.
HDMI is getting unneccessary L on it. DP is already industry standard, at least in EU. Modern devices already are going away from HDMI in favor of DP (either original connector or "DP via USB-C"). Even docking stations over thunderbolt have more DP outputs than HDMI, so.... probably we'll go into DP world sooner than later anyway.
“All of the switch games on my Steam Deck I also own physically.” Hah, yea me too! Haha. 😅
I know what you ment dude, but I'm not gonna lie. When you said yo like the smash button I had to double take and laugh 😂
The use of the encryption keys to access Nintendo games is how Yuzu got in hot waters. Sure, they can emulate with their own code but not using Nintendo's encryption. This is how it got link to piracy and Yuzu settled to pay.
Noo i have trailmakers already :(
so windows enables the use of Yuzu... sooooo.... if Yuzu is liable, so is Windows
Hopefully Yuzu has engaged with the EFF.
Nintendo zing, Yuzu again to quote one of the best far cry games in the series have “I ever told you the definition of insanity”
TBH in regards to 4k120 on PC why would you not be using DP haha.. has everything HDMI has to offer and then some.
I think Nintendo (& Sony) could learn a thing or two from Xbox when it comes to combating piracy.
I mean has the Xbox One been cracked yet let alone the Series consoles.
Just give peeps Dev Mode and maybe make your hardware be kinda closer to cutting edge so it will be a while it's even able to be emulated
They enable piracy though so should Microsoft be sued? Dev mod runs Retroarch so in essence aren’t they liable because they make that accessible?
@@sushi_wolf by Nintendo's logic yes M$ should be sued, by the same logic every arms manufacturer should be charged with murder along side those who pulled the trigger
Yes, start a legal defence fund.
Valid info and I’ll donate.
How dare corporations protect their assets?
I pirate like no tomorrow….but own over 300 games on my Nintendo account. If I enjoy the game, I buy it. If they are successful at this suit I’m just going to switch to purely using Steam deck to buy those same games and support devs so Nintendo doesn’t get any of the money. I love Nintendo….but if they are going to violate our rights or use scare tactics and ruin emulation, welp, they will become MySpace……..
I will donate to help yuzu
I'm no big city lawyer but I think that the TPM that was circumvented was Nvidia's and not Nintendo's since prod.keys has to be obtained from a 'hackable' Switch, and the only reason the Switch was able to be hacked in the first place was because the original hackers (not Tropic Haze btw) were aware of a known vulnerability on Nvidia's Tegra X1 chipset. So the hardware that the Switch utilizes is what was initially circumvented by another party which allows the execution of unsigned code, which in turn would make any attempt at software level encryption moot. I don't know if this is strong enough to hold up in court, but from a technical standpoint Yuzu's code cannot and does not decrypt Nintendo's encryption on it's own, and Yuzu (to my knowledge) doesn't have any proprietary code like what was found in the Dolphin emulator.
"Design is my bread and butter" Sorry but that doesn't show from your example. 😬
I don't know if USBIF is any better morally, but we should dumb HDMI anyway. USB C should be a standard for video connectors. We don't need all these unique ports. USB C also can carry enough power to make it so video dongles don't need a second wire.
DisplayPort is nice in that it tries to be open, but it doesn't have a reversible connector, isn't suited for powering devices (I think it caps at 1.5 watts), and in reality just isn't being adopted by consumers and vendors.
I know a DP signal can be carried over USB, so my concerns are mainly just against its native port.
Ugh. Nintendo. Love the games. Don't want to buy their consoles for a few exclusives and subpar versions of literally everything else. Wish they would do a cloud service that you could use on any device.
Display port is legit better than hdmi is basically every way :/
This is the episode that earned a subscribe from me, for open, unambiguous, uncompromising support of open source and AMD.
I like having Yuzu because I like ripping the roms of games I own and purchased so I can play them in 4k at 60fps with raytracing on my PC. Maybe if Nintendo would join everyone else on PC I wouldn't need to do all the extra work 😊
