    5:02 Warner Bros. literally patented the Nemesis system. Yes, you very much CAN own the mechanics of a video game. This is also a reason why you never see many games on loading screens anymore. Some company owns the rights to that. I could be wrong about that last part, though.
    You probably meant you can't own the collective mechanics of an entire game, in which case, I think you are right.

      @@gardiner_bryant Nemesis system patent is incorect. Firstly they do patent It after using It in game. It is not how patents works. If someone have money on loyer It could be throw away. It is a bit like Nintendo DMCA takedown overuse. Big companies can bend laws becaouse they know that anyone sue them.

    • @Soletestament
      @Soletestament Před 3 měsíci

      @@jankowalski5310 patent law is pretty loose. When you patent something you are patenting the exact construction of a product. Code is typically protected under copyright as its a document not a product.
      In both cases knitpicking mechanics or similarities never stands up to legal scrutiny. As it violates the spirit of the law which is to promote innovation. This has been established repeatedly in US courts. Making NYTs actions essentially patent trolling. Something most judges have zero patience for.

    A point to make about AMD changing the standard for free sync, no this isn’t good…. They should have made a new label and not change a current standard, what they did creates confusion.

    • @DustoMan
      @DustoMan Před 3 měsíci +5

      I was thinking this too. It's hard enough to figure out Freesync/GSync specifications are hard enough to find in product listings now we have a new version spec on top of that. They should have branded this FreeSync 2.0 or something.

    • @AlexChama
      @AlexChama Před 3 měsíci

      I get your point, but going forward you'll be able to at least consider putting in the release date + FreeSync as a filter for product comparison sites like rtings and such. That way you can make sure you compare on a level playing field. But yeah, it'd be good to put a version into the certification label. And a version logic that doesn't keep changing.... right, USB? When will they finally add Instant Replay and regular recording functionality to Steam Deck and the Steam client itself? I know there's a Decky plugin for it, but I want tight integration polish, not having to remember to hit the button shortcut to activate the plugin and for Valve to take care of maintenance of this feature without having to worry about a Steam OS or Steam Client update breaking this feature if it's someone's hobby project. @@MrGamelover23Because what proton does is it translates windows system calls to linux system calls. Windows is really good when it comes to compatibility, you can even run games from the windows vista era on windows 11 sometimes.
      However on linux, things change quite often (at least for now). For example the x11 to wayland transition, most linux distros converted to a new sound system a few years ago (pulse audio I think it's called?), etc. These things might break compatibility with programs that rely on these older apps to be there.
      Then there is also the flaw in linux where apps usually do not keep all the dependencies they need and rely on the system to provide them. I remember team fortress 2 breaking for me a few months ago because openSUSE Tumbleweed stopped shipping the 32bit version of some library that it relied on so it just wouldn't launch. Switched to proton and everything worked well.
      Proton by itself does not have this problem because it keeps getting updated and also I think it uses the Steam Runtime to get its dependencies so it does not care about what is installed on your system. Wine (the program that proton is based on) does not have dependency issues because your distribution packages it for you and ensures it works like it should. Same for the steam client.
      Another thing is just linux marketshare being so small that developers just do not care if it breaks sometimes. They might release a linux version and do not test it much afterwards so it just slowly breaks until it becomes unusable.
      This will probably get better in the future. Hopefully. It feels like linux is in a transition right now. Lots of changes in a few years. 3 years ago, linux was unusable for me.
      Anyways this is what I think + what I have heard on the internet from time to time. I'm not some linux expert, I daily drive linux but do not care too deeply about what's going on underneath the surface as long as all works like it should. If you want an in-depth explanation you will need to look stuff up yourself.

    What’s missing is the big fix for switching between desktop and gaming mode and seamless docked to handheld mode switching for the display… In my opinion much more important than new features…. The steam deck has been out for years now and I find it absolutely unacceptable that this hasn’t been fixed yet. Honestly, you're the only person I've ever seen wanting this feature.
      From a technical standpoint seamless switching between desktop and game mode is not possible or desireable. Game mode runs as a separate session from the desktop. (This means that, unlike Windows, there is no "desktop" running behind Big Picture Mode).
      In fact, Big Picture Mode **is** the desktop while in Game Mode. In order to go into desktop mode, you have to quit Steam and then boot up KDE.
      This is the desirable behavior since other desktops consume tons of resources when running in the background.

      The "Seamless" part was in regards to connecting to the dock as my steam struggles to dock and un-dock with out issue 90 percent of the time. As it gets stuck on a black screen with or without haptics and sound.
      As far as desktop to game mode switching I wouldn't care if it took longer I'd just like it to actually work more consistently and not be a 50/50 shot of doing it without getting stuck on a black screen.
