Value's family sharing will actually reduce piracy by making it easier to play legally purchased games, and thus, make Value more money in the process. Other companies, not just game companies, could learn a thing or 2 from Valve
Amen!
Lol no, this is a worse solution that the current family share Feature. Pepole used to share with friends might pirate instead of sharing how it is now.
I don't see how. I can actually play my games as long as it's not the one someone else decided to play
Rocket League use to be on Steam but was removed several years back when Epic Games(failure) went on their whole "crusade" against valve. I have some friends on Steam that were lucky enough to have bought the game before the purge happened and see them playing it a lot.
I have rocket league using Epic games launcher on my Deck. Works fine and it's free.
@@Montague38no steam workshop
It's amazing how Epic has tried everything to defeat Steam. Except of course working on improving their service so they can properly attempt to compete with them.
@@69bruh bakkesmod
@@chloe-sunshine7I want to say to epic a line Gabe would feel sounds familiar
"Competition is a service problem"
I personally think the family sharing stuff is good, but it does suck for people who have family or friends across nearby borders, since they do not allow you to share with accounts in different purchasing regions. It is not an objective upgrade from the previous one, I know several people who can no longer share their libraries because they live too far apart.
With that 1 year cooldown they really want do discourage sharing library with your friends :(
True but it is a "family" feature not a "sharing with friends" feature, I get sharing with friends would be good but ultimately Valve are a business and while giving stuff away is great they are in it for the money, that said what I will give Valve is kudos for is knowing that while they are looking to make money they also appreciate that the end user experience is fundamental in maintaining their business.
Is the Epic games store fairer with Devs than Steam, absolutely and the 30% Valve and other digital storefronts charge is unfair and based on a rules that covered physical goods that they've exploited for their own gain, but lets be real here the reason Epic takes less isn't altruism, it's to try and capture enough of the market so they to can make more money and the decision was practically forced on them, Valve knows it and Sweeney definitely knows it.
They don’t want friends sharing libraries at all, this is really only intended for household sharing. The main example being parents sharing with children or significant other. Obviously people will abuse the system so they have to find ways to make it harder for that.
@@gs8494 There is nothing convincing me that Epic won't swap to 30% cut the second they have the market share to do so.
Totally. Seems like a really fair compromise to hold to the spirit of their offering. I could see unrestricted sharing being taken advantage of immediately.
Valve has a lot of overhead to cover as well as maintaining a profit. Infrastructure, payroll for employees, R&D, taking risks on devices and services that flop.. all that costs lots of money.
I’m glad to see them making a profit, while offering the most top class experience for the users. It inspires me to start another company with customer experience as the primary focus.
Given that this feature could easily be exploited if this was allowed, its understandable. I have some ideas in my head how this could be achieved, but ultimately neither Valve nor the companies offering the games would want that. So it's still good we can share games with family.
Suyu got taken down almost half a day before this video was uploaded lol
They already created their own self-hosted gitlab, so it doesn't matter.
hes pointing out how behind gardiner bryant is

Hey Gardiner, i have an issue with the touch screen that could be solved, but i dont think my voice would be heard.
Would you make a video touching on how in order to manipulate the downloads you need to double or triple tap and then drag an item to move its position in the downloads queue?
Where this issue is solved with all cell phones and their drag and drop manipulations.
I don't own a Steam Deck, so I have no idea what you're talking about, but here, have a like and a comment to boost your visibility. Cheers!
@@Winnetou17 imagine that you can move the icons on your phone by holding them down.
On the deck you have to double tap, kind of like double click to run a program from the desktop.
And that's what it's like to drag something from one spot to another on the deck.
@@CyFrwhoa, that is weird, indeed.
I hope Valve someday bring back Steam Dev Days Event, it was awesome conference, are there any Linux Centric Gaming Events and Developer Conferences ? I want to learn about how Devs are optimising for Steam Deck
My partner and I are currently long distance, and current family sharing implementation works. Sadly the new system does not allow my partner to share games anymore.
I just tried the Steam OS beta the other day and it completely broke my Decky Loader and seemingly all it's plugins. Curious about using the beta again in the future, but not until this is fixed.
Is there any way to download demo for games which is made for Windows, I always get invalid platform. most games will run fine with Proton. A lot of Indie Game released demos during GDC
do you have: steam > settings > compatibility > enable steam play for all other titles, enabled?
will that effect native games ?
@@tui3264no, unless you force them to do that, could work for certain games
I had to change crab game to the Windows version just because my hardware couldn't somehow handle the game, it was crashing mid-game
@@tui3264 i think native games will still launch natively unless told to do otherwise
I heard Suyu got shut down already. According to The Verge and Overkill Dot WTF
Got DMCA'd yesterday.
Edit: appears it is back up already? Not sure lol
damn it's true, can't reach their GitLab :/
Ya it got DMCA'd on got Lab. But they haven't closed up shop. There looking at ways to keep it up
Wonder will Emudeck move to this?
Looking forward to the new family sharing hopefully being less fiddly and flakey than the current system to set up across multiple devices.
Sooooo... I need two copies of one game to play multiplayer? Because I want to play assetto corsa with my friend but I can't because I dont have it? Well how does that work? I want to play with only one copy but if you need two than what's the point of family share? I don't understand please explain.
What are you talking about? Family sharing isn't for sharing your games with friends. It's for sharing your library with your immediate household members and that's it.
If you have household members who are playing your copy of the game and nobody else owns it, that game is locked out until you kick them out or they finish playing. If two people in your household want to play the same game at the same time, then at least two people in your household must own the game.
@@gardiner_bryant ohhh ok now I get it, thanks!
Thanks for the down low on the Corey Doctorow Humble Bundle ebooks.
Just picked them up as well.
Slid a little extra in for Gardiner too, thanks for heads up buddy!
Well done Valve! Making the experience and usability of their system ever better, while tightening up and closing an abused loophole so that we all adhere to the spirit of family sharing.
Valve inspires me to start a company that puts user experience first without compromising the need to cover overhead and deserved profits.
Well, Steam Families is a regression from Steam Family Sharing for some... "unintended" use cases - And Valve is probably fully aware of the fact. (With Family Sharing you could basically share your library with multiple friends, not sure if there even was a limit)
If I remember the limits right, it was up to 4 accounts and 2 hardware devices.
Yeah, that was an abused exploit. I totally understand and agree with the direction Valve took. To greatly improve the user experience while tightening up the system so that we adhere to the spirit of it. Well done Valve!
Currently, you can have 10 devices and 5 users. I shared with my cousins and as one stopped gaming I would drop one to add another. But now with the banning part I don't think I'll share with anyone but my wife. I don't need to pay the punishment for someone else. (Not that anyone has ever been banned from my family). You could also on the fly swap out users. So if one day one cousin wants it and another on a different day it wasn't a big deal other than enabling and disabling profiles.
About fu**ing time they fixed the most stupid blocker. Locking the whole library just for your kid to play one game was just stupid on so may levels. I been writing Valve and Gabe so many times about fixing this. Now the next step that Valve should implement is the ability to transfer ownership of games. I guess that won't come until legislation forces the various "stores" to allow re-sale of electronic goods. I could re-sell my old physical games that I had and no longer wanted to play, but for some odd reason this is not possible with games purchased digitally even though they often have the same price as a physical copy of a game. But I guess eventually legislator will catch up to this.
Had the MiSTer since it was cheap and its absolutely awesome 👍🏻
They need to improve the security on them and do more frequent security updates on steam deck. They will become a bigger target for security breaches
Suyu has already been taken down, such a shame
I just want Red Dead Redemption 2 working again😢 I just get some crap about AMD drivers when trying to play
This family share rewamp is so bad. I Don't nessesarily want my entire "family" to trust each other. Also reduced the amount of family members possible.
That's kind of the point. This feature is meant for actual family members. Not your friends. Not your "family."
I would love to play Rocket League on deck more, but I don't play with a controller and don't have my deck set up to be docked with peripherals, I feel dumb when trying to use a controller, significantly worse. It plays and looks really good on there though, I need to get used to a controller I guess, I hate how Epic is doing that game, been on hiatus for months now but used to play it all day everyday. I need a new pc pretty bad, it runs terrible and is just old, the majority of gaming is done on the deck now, I love how the deck controls and feels. We need a Steam deck controller 2.0 more than anything. At this point it is a much needed device thanks to those back buttons, I have a Steam controller but it is not close to the same feel or compatibility.
Gardiner, I heard suyu was taken down too
Suyu, that's what Nintendo said 😂
You know kingdom hears. In that game some guys get reincarnated whit they name scrambled and a X added the shoud have called the emulator suyux
There is a pretty massive downgrade when it comes to the new family sharing and I'm holding off on it for that reason - you can't be a part of the same family if any of the people in your family live in any other region from your own, which is pretty common, meaning families are region locked. If you live in the UK, but your sibling lives in the EU - tough luck. If you live in Seattle and a family member is in Vancouver 2 hours away - tough luck.
It's meant (and has always been meant) for families in the same household.
@@gardiner_bryant All I know is that it's a use case that was allowed in the past and worked just fine for many years, and now it does not. It sure didn't seem like region locking of entire families was the intention until just now 🤷♂️
4:34 X- cretion! Ha! 😄
everybody that bought a steam controller got rocket league for free. I guess the people owning a steam controller are also most likely to get a steam deck.
SuYu has been DMCA'd on Github today. 🤣
It's been reported this could be fake news.
5:24 Probably more people play Rocket League on Steam than on Epic Games Store.
Clearly lol
The biggest issue with new family share is that it doesn't work across countries
I really hope they change that
This is a regression not a fix. Current Family Sharing is great to share games with family in other states. With this they going to limit greatly what I can share.
Family sharing has always been about sharing with your immediate household. The family you live with. Sharing with folks outside if that is not supported
I don't know about the other stores but on epic store last time I checked,
you able to connect with the same account in 2 different computer and play online with same account no isuouse 8:56 at least if you use the same IP
I don't know what happened if connect with same network I don't what I will happen if you connect on different place with same account.
Stop missed liding other and give try before you say something
I have laptop 💻 and computer and give try myself
On the other hand wean try the same on steam it logout automatic and the only way I mange to connect 2 computer in the order to play lan game to make the 1 computer of those 2 offline mode
On epic i connect to amoguas and play with same account and able to connect play with this 2 computer with no isuouse at least local multiplayer that I was indresting to check.
Sorry. Epic is evil and I won't install CCP spyware on my computer.

and try to make profit with enay way nursery events if the unethical ways
i personally don't steam epic most off the company's out their however it impossible to play all those game with out those stores
Hoeve it may not possible to stop those stores legally but i can able to search for holes on the system the created in the order to take advantage
for example i personally have more the one computer and if wand to play i lan game like half life that i already own
I can able to make one off thos account to forsee to by offline mode in the order to play lan game
one other hole i have fund is some games don't need the launch in the order to play so you able to go to file directories and open the file for ther and with that way you able to play those game with out having the launcher disadvantage or advantage depending on the game this method apply most in older game's
i don't understand way to lock your self in whatever rolls the platform have wean you able to take advantage is not like the steam i will care if play thos 20 years old game's out off the stream store and even if the care is not like the able to do something wean thos game does not origin made for steam anyway
@@gardiner_bryant most companies are evil
I just personally try to take advantage in every area I can
If have the I will not lock 🔒 my game on epic steam or any other platform in theat matter
However for my reach I found some way to take advantage off those platforms

One other method I have found is the in some game you able to open the game on file directly and not have all the platform restrictions and benefits on that matters

Yeah, i don't trust suyu yet. So far it seems like a bunch of edgy kids just trying to be cheeky.
Who doesn't like the "Smash" button?
Steam Family: Because parents would rather pass off their responsibilities onto a company, rather than being a parent. As if kids couldn't just make a separate account, hidden from their parents.
Wanna fix nearly all headaches? Just install windows.
Yeap, and get STDs instead 😂 my work windows system is causing me headaches.
Nice bait
Windows always increase my headache, even though Linux is not perfect
They see me rollin’ I’m trollin’ dupe eh doop eh do doo
WINDOWS???? I just downgraded my ROG ally from windows 11 to windows 10. Windows 11 itself was more of a headache than actually downgrading it to Windows 10. Windows 11 was so bad I would rather spend 6 hours flashing iso and drivers and tweaking windows 10 and be done NO WINDOWS, NO NO NO NO NOOO. And windows will cause me another headache whenever they drop support for windows 10, and then I have to delete windows and download Linux
MiSTer isnt Emulation, its Hardware Implementation. its all done on the FPGA as hardware and not in software
Hardware emulation is more correct term for the final product i think, as the board then emulates another hardware. Isn't implementation the process of programming the fpga? Like software implementation is the process of incorporating one program in workforce of other software?
fun fact Intel emulate x86 too in all CPU :p
