Hi! My name is Kim. This year my family has decided to throw out all the conventional ways of easy cooking and convenience foods. We are moving towards a new way of life..more holistic, with whole foods, all organic, and home grown garden produce. Better food, better health, better life! I know it is going to be more planning and hard work...but what we eat is the most important thing that we do all day. Food is medicine or it is poison. I want to serve medicine to my family. Join us as we embark on this new journey. It will be full of progress and mistakes, as we try new things such as tinctures, salves, fermentations, canning, homesteading, gardening, and so much more. ❤️

    This was helpful. I’m watching several videos to get started. I thought you had to keep the mother in the brew for the next batch. I could not tell if she added it back or not. The video did not show that. Does she discard it and only leave a small piece in the new batch? I wasn’t clear on that. Thanks.

    Hm, I wouldn't force the kids to drink a glass of juice each day. Make it optional. Let them find out what they like and what they don't. And you do not eat the whole fruit or vegetable when drinking the juice. You cannot, as far as I know, replace a balanced diet with leaving off the veggies and drinking them instead. Also, you drink a lot of fruit sugar with the juices. I am in no way against juicing and doing it myself, but I don't feel it is necessary to "force" kids to drink homemade juices every day.

    Saving, Saving and Saving+ Saving 🥵 for a particular more expensive manual mill but I think as an " in the meantime" we'll get one of these smaller mills as a safety measure. Today in April 2024 the farm report is not giving a good outlook for future grain and wheat. Great video thanks for sharing.

    I also have the electric WonderMill, and enjoyed your video. One thing I noticed is how you start your milling process. You should always turn your machine on before you add the whole grain to the hopper. As you described in your video, the machine will jump when first starting, but that stops as soon as the motor gets going. According to WonderMill, starting the machine after adding your grain risks the machine jamming or clogging. Thank you for the tip on the book. I ordered it today!

    I'm also juicing for the sinus inflammation. What we eat can irritate the gut and cause systemic inflammation. The high level inflammatory molecules in our bodies then cause other tissues to inflame: Sinuses (also smooth muscle tissue just like the guts so same reaction to those signaling chemicals ramped up by the gut irritation) and the chemicals irritate joints. Because joint fluid holds onto inflammatory signalling molecules and lectin proteins from plants the joints will hurt. Over time, the chronic inflammation in the joints will result in damage. Eliminate lectin containing plants according to Dr. Steven Gundry in his book, "The Plant Paradox". The paradox is that although we are told that all plants are good for us because they have vitamins but they can also have irritating proteins-- Two things can be true at once.

  • @treasuretrovel3816
    @treasuretrovel3816 Před 4 měsíci

    Given that the kids don't like the bell peppers, I recommend that you eliminate them entirely. Nightshade veggies (tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, potatoes) have an irritating chemical, Solenacia. It is a plant toxin that the nightshade species make to protect from insect and other animals. They also contain defensive proteins called lectins that irritate the gut and speed the transit of their seeds through the mammalian gut. These proteins are detrimental to all human guts but some individuals are more sensitive and they get a bellyache, reflux and diarrhea even with low doses of nightshade plants especially raw nightshade in juice. Over time, continuing to eat nightshades for people very sensitive causes joint inflammation and damage, colitis causing malabsorption and divertiuli in the gut wall and polyps. So, please read The Plant Paradox and don't make your kids eat things that they hate because it will hurt them long term. I would recommend skinning the carrots.The "baby carrots" are actually big carrots that were blemished and so they were cut down into little cylinders. They therefore come packaged in water without skin.

    Better to not use plastic containers The plastic leaches plastic components into your juice . Also better to drink your juice fresh . Juice oxidizes after being exposed to air and loses its antioxidants power.

    I never store juice in the fridge or freezer. All I do is wash my fruit and vegetables and store in the fridge, I find if everything is washed then I can juice ad I go very quickly, I do once in the morning and once in the evening. And on the odd occasion I might juice extra if I feel I should have more than two juices in a day. In the morning I only rinse the juicer except the strainer I scrub, and in the evening I give it a proper wash.

    Kim, tell your husband you NEED the Ankarsrum mixer! That Kitchenaide will not stand the test of time, making your bread for your family weekly. I know from experience even sent it in to Kitchenaide to refurbish still didn’t stand. So I use it for easy stuff like the many accessories I have for it. I got the Ankarsrum after much research and was bouncing back and forth from it and the Bosch but in the end the Ankarsrum won its spot on my counter and believe me it has earned that prime real estate and it’s paid for itself already in three years. Will be an heirloom for sure they have a great reputation for many years. I never use the bread hook just the roller and scraper works great. I’ve made many loaves with it and much fresh milled flour has been through it. Expensive? Yes, but so worth it it’s like comparing a black n decker tool to a craftsman too ( craftsman of years gone by that is) hubby will understand that one. Buy it one done. Learning curve? Yes but lots of videos to help as Breadbeckers for one 🙂. Last thing you need is to be prepared and mixer gives up! ( I bout a small solar generator just for my mixer😂 she deserves it)

    I was told by an old retired baker keep yeast in freezer and there’s no expiration date for it. I’ve followed that advice and used yeast that date said expired three years ago works fine guess yeast can’t read! I just put towel over the bowl depends on day sometimes takes another15 minutes and after shaping I found a plastic lidded container that hold three cast iron loaf pans if I need that much and let second rise there to inch above pan top edge then turn on oven and put loaf in( don’t waste my propane with preheating) as it heats up I get oven spring that’s wonderful beautiful loaf. Heard this tip from another fresh milled lover. It works and it saves fuel too.

    Cooking is an “art” baking is a ‘science “ so adding that bit of extra flour may have made it more dense in texture. It’s actually more accurate to weigh the ingredients good science experiment for your daughter measure a cup of flour then weigh it then repeat with another measured cup compare weights per cup. Fun and informative experiment for her to learn for sure. I’m learning to weigh ingredients in baking I’m 75 so still learning but I’ve seen a difference especially with flour.
