  • Seasonal garden crops are great, but what about long-term food supplies? Fruit trees will feed you every year with a fraction of the work. Not only are they less work, but they are a great healthy food source and you can use their fruit in various ways. Eat it raw, can it for later, freeze dry it, dehydrate it, and more. Today, I show you some of the edible fruit trees that we have been collecting for our orchard in this mini garden tour.

Hi! My name is Kim. This year my family has decided to throw out all the conventional ways of easy cooking and convenience foods. We are moving towards a new way of life..more holistic, with whole foods, all organic, and home grown garden produce. Better food, better health, better life! I know it is going to be more planning and hard work...but what we eat is the most important thing that we do all day. Food is medicine or it is poison. I want to serve medicine to my family. Join us as we embark on this new journey. It will be full of progress and mistakes, as we try new things such as tinctures, salves, fermentations, canning, homesteading, gardening, and so much more. ❤️

We have plum & peach, and I’m working on adding avocado, coffee, loquat, cherry, apple… any and everything that’s bearing. We are super excited!

We have also started planting fruit trees...a good initiative if you have kids is to have each family member plant one!

Absolutely. We didn't film it, but we actually had the whole family outside this weekend planting them up:)

Suggestion about planting trees where you have a lot of wind. Plant young trees leaning into the wind. As they grow the wind will straighten your trees. If you plant trees vertical, the wind will eventually make them lean over. I'm in Texas now. But lived in Commifornia for 70 years. Commercial farmers will plant their orchards leaning into the wind. After 3-4 years the trees become straight.

I grew up in Fresno County and sadly watched the orchards, vineyards and cattle disappear, giving way to gangs and graffiti. Sad, sad times.

Make a strong brew of lemon grass and add brew to a large jug of water, chill and drink after working hard outside. There is just a hint of lemon that doesn't need sugar. Basil is good too. Very refreshing.
