  • I bought some MORE plants and it's almost time to plant for spring...BUT first...what's growing in my garden RIGHT NOW? I take you around to my various projects and cottage gardens to see what's growing, what needs work and what I will be planting next! Who else NEEDS all the plants?!?!

Hi! My name is Kim. This year my family has decided to throw out all the conventional ways of easy cooking and convenience foods. We are moving towards a new way of life..more holistic, with whole foods, all organic, and home grown garden produce. Better food, better health, better life! I know it is going to be more planning and hard work...but what we eat is the most important thing that we do all day. Food is medicine or it is poison. I want to serve medicine to my family. Join us as we embark on this new journey. It will be full of progress and mistakes, as we try new things such as tinctures, salves, fermentations, canning, homesteading, gardening, and so much more. ❤️

If you end up loving those geranium they propagate very easily so you can spread the love in your garden.

Kim! I'm loving how excited you are about your garden, my garden is my happy place. I've been gardening for a Long time and would like to pass along some advice, one gardener to another - Move the Fennel FAR away from all other plants, it will stunt their growth and can alter/taint the flavor of other plants And vegetables near it. Also, Growing Dill near Lavender will negatively affect the growth of the Lavender, causing it to fail instead of thrive. Lavender does not like to live in moist soil. So if you are planting herbs that need more water in the same bed as your Lavender, it will likely die off. Rosemary is another herb that enjoys drier soil and may not do well in a bed with herbs that like moist soil. Just some things I have learned over the years and thought I'd pass along.

WoW! Thanks for the advice. I see transplanting in my future now :). What about fennel next to regular flowers? I just sowed the dill, ugh! I will figure out who to move when those pop up. Thanks again!❤️

Love your enthusiasm. Trying new things is fun. I’m envious. I’m waiting for my home to be rebuilt following a house fire. I won’t be back in time to start my outdoor garden before it gets too hot, 115+ in the summer🔥. In the mean time I’ve started seeds and have moved some plants into hydroponic containers for an indoor garden. I don’t remember the last time I had to protect my garden from a freeze but shade protection is essential in my climate so I’ll be rebuilding those structures to prepare for next year.

So sorry to hear about your fire. I hope everyone was ok and hopefully you were able to salvage some things. 115 is sooo hot, how do you stand it?!?! It gets 98 here with humidity and I swear sometimes we don't bother to venture outside. Glad you are finding other options to get your food/flowers growing :) On an upside, hopefully you get to plan out and build the garden of your dreams now ❤️

We pronounce that 'loo-pin' here. The little purple ones look like violas. Marigolds are great for skeeter control.

You pronounce it correctly...I'm just struggling. LOL! I did find the tag later and they are violas :). Marigolds are going everywhere then...lots of skeeters! Thanks for your help!!!
