    Hi! My name is Kim. This year my family has decided to throw out all the conventional ways of easy cooking and convenience foods. We are moving towards a new way of life..more holistic, with whole foods, all organic, and home grown garden produce. Better food, better health, better life! I know it is going to be more planning and hard work...but what we eat is the most important thing that we do all day. Food is medicine or it is poison. I want to serve medicine to my family. Join us as we embark on this new journey. It will be full of progress and mistakes, as we try new things such as tinctures, salves, fermentations, canning, homesteading, gardening, and so much more. ❤️

    Thank you for this! My Grandma lived to be 109. She said it was because she didnt eat processed foods, her food came from her garden. She ste meat, but very little. She ate out rarely and maintained her weight. Working in her garden was her exercise.

    Awesome! This was very informative, I really never thought about the idea of brewing it yourself before.

    This was helpful. I’m watching several videos to get started. I thought you had to keep the mother in the brew for the next batch. I could not tell if she added it back or not. The video did not show that. Does she discard it and only leave a small piece in the new batch? I wasn’t clear on that. Thanks.

    I prefer Jun to Kombucha but store bought is so expensive. I will be ordering a Jun SCOBY. I already have local, raw honey and green tea. I just need to find a jar to start with. I plan on doing the continuous ferment. I love your willingness to try new things in your search of a healthier lifestyle for you and your family. Your candor and honest reactions are helpful for others thinking about making changes. It’s a process and sometimes you just need to push through your reluctance. It’s great that you have a friend to help you along the way.

    I usually rinse my hands with vinegar, after washing but before handling my scoby. Also, the jars will explode if left unrefrigerated for to long. I had bought a couple of jars from the grocery store, and one fell off my passenger seat and rolled under. I didn't realize that had happened until i went into my van one day, and found shards of glass everywhere. Just a little warning. Great video.

      Great tip...vinegar is amazing! Yes, Kendall, I think discussed the period of 2nd fermentation. But thanks for sharing your info:). Glad no one was cut!

    I heard about kombucha in a... lets say...patriot prepper survivor class. And the lady didn't really show the process how to make it but "told" how and had samples of even dandelion kombucha which was really great! But I had no idea what a mother was. I guess she said scoby? I transported one to my daughter's friend when I went on vacation once cuz I was going by her house. I had drank store bought after the samples but had never even heard of the mother. It looked like an alien jellyfish!🤣 And I'm like the woman in this video I take a really great pre and probiotics and have for years but I know fermented food is so good for you. Can you have another class on how to start from the beginning of just making kombucha for those that have no clue what this is all about? 😂 Or have recommendations for someone that does have a channel to watch the process? Thanks in advance!! 💖
    Also I don't think my family will drink this so is there a way to make this smaller? Does the mother get as big as the container? And if it gets to big can you cut it down and get rid of part of it?

    that jar looks bigger than a gallon, I viewed the link below this video and it shows 1 gallon jars. Where would one get a bigger jar for that stuff. Did your stand come with yours? That's cool. thanks

    Can you tell me what the difference is between Kombucha and Jun tea? Please

    • @homewithkim
      @homewithkim  Před 2 lety

      I hadn't heard about Jun tea until recently, but this is what I found on Google:
      "The ingredients used in making Jun and kombucha are one of the primary differences between the two. While kombucha generally utilizes black tea and refined sugar as its fermentation medium, Jun is cultured with green tea and raw honey."
      I might have to try making this tea as well...sounds delish!
