Very good review Mark. Love the opinions. Your thoughts seem very spot on. 🥃👌
Hi Ron! Really appreciate that my friend. Cheers🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃
@@WhiskyWhistle Hi Mark! You’re most welcome. I truly enjoyed the review. I hope everything’s going well for you in Korea. Winnipeg lost a pretty good guy in my opinion when you left so I suppose Korea gained one. 🙂
@ronaldbeerguy so far so good here! And what a compliment! Hopefully I’ll be back once or twice or more a year eventually.
@@WhiskyWhistle nice. You take care!
nice review! did you like the Rocky movies? (on account of your dogs name)
Hi @jonathanbender7347 thanks for the comment - you bet I did! Was too young to see Rocky and Rocky II in the theatre but saw Rocky III & IV with my dad. When we took the pup home he would play with my hand as if he were doing speed bag work. Hence the name! Cheers🥃🥃🥃🥃
@@WhiskyWhistle thats awesome! I love those movies too! Cheers.
Basically love Independent bottles. Even when they are not great, they often give a chance to taste the distillate a different way. Glad this one had some great "whisky only" notes that hit your brain just right! Love waxy tropical notes too. Cheers!
Hi Jon! I’ve only had one dud, but it was $50 for 500ml - not terrible, not great, but actually still worth the price! Cheers brother🥃🥃🥃🥃
Yes, buy more indies - for sure, especially G&M (soon to stop . . .). Distillers bottlings will always be around, for fun + variety : indies !
Great call Timothy! My sentiments exactly! Cheers TTT🥃🥃🥃🥃
This was the first time in 6 or 7 months that I got a notification for a new vid, even though I’m signed up for all notifications. Glad I got this one!
Hi Jerry! Thanks for watching. Yes, the notifications aren’t perfect. It’s definitely a bone of contention among creators! Next review already recorded and will start editing today. Big cheers🥃🥃🥃🥃
Hi Mark. What’s shaking. Doin fine here. Quite busy so less comments. Sorry bout that. Wow Glen Scotia. Huge fan. The best Campbeltown can offer.
Hi Gerrit! Maybe that’s good as I’m recording less🤣🤣 same, some utter gems among the indie bottlers and the OB’s are excellent and consistent! Alls well here - it’s great being back! The only thing that sucks is the price of whisky. Cheers bud🥃🥃🥃🥃
@@WhiskyWhistle prices these days are sky high. Even here in the Netherlands. But what can you do. Buy less. First getting rid of the older stock. Stopped counting the bottles. Takes all day by mu guess. But cheers. Im never disappointed by any independent bottling. I like the Ultimate very much and Beek whisky. Both from the Netherlands. Please do some research. Interesting stuff. Slainthe.
@gerritgreveling good call. Drink the older stock and buy less. Thanks for mentioning those! I’ll check them out!! 🥃🥃🥃🥃
@@WhiskyWhistle you’re welcome brother. Hope u can find them. Since you’re on the other side of the world. Indeed some research first. The Haran cask matured thats something. Kicks like a mule. Cheers
5:19 Mark! Dude! You're too young to be having a senior moment! 😉 Good on ya for leaving that in the edit - it shows you've got self confidence and a good sense of humor. About the whisky - big fan of Glen Scotia here. I've tried their Double Cask, 15yo and Victoriana and find all of them to be very good Scotch at good value. I haven't had this or any other a IB Glen Scotia, but I've had a number of other IBs and they've all been good, with a few of them being truly outstanding. Last year I found an SMOS bottling of a 12yo cask strength Highland Park that is the best HP I've ever tasted PLUS it was just $95.00, which was a steal considering the quality. Scotch aficionados who haven't delved into independent bottlings are missing out on some excellent spirit, and this 22yo Glen Scotia sounds like one of the real winners!
Hi Paul! Haha yes you said it! Definitely try to laugh about my own quirks…of which there are many!! I should probably write up a loose script🤣 That HP sounds like a dream. And I agree with your comments - it’s as if the big shops, the bars, the whisky festivals all set up the newbies for a good 5-10 years of brand loyalty. I suppose it’s also like walking in a strange town at night without a map…before smartphones came out. Indies are anti marketing almost. My next purchase in Korea might be a bottle of Hepburns Choice, maybe a Benrinnes. Still $100 USD here but other than Talisker 10 and Ardbeg 5 at $50 and 45 here, everything is $100 and up. Cheers🥃🥃🥃🥃
@@WhiskyWhistle Oh, that HP really was a dream - it was stated on the label as being matured in a sherry butt that yielded around 630 bottles if I recall correctly. It must have had a considerable amount of wine still in the barrel, as the color of the whisky was unusually dark and opaque. I'm not really a fan of most sherry bombs, but this one was incredibly rich and really complimented the Highland Park's spirit. I'm going to keep an eye out for any more SMOS bottlings that show up!
@paulm749 truly sounds fantastic. SMOS Ledaig in my next video!
What a beauty!! Terrific scotch and an amazing review/thoughts Mark! Very enjoyable!! 🙂
Thanks so much Christine! Really appreciate it. Cheers🥃🥃🥃🥃
@@WhiskyWhistle I really appreciate you Mark! Are you in Korea now or Winnipeg? I hope your health is back in top form! Happy summer!! 🙂
Benromach 15 all the way!!
Thanks Christine! They are surprisingly very reasonable here. Cheers and thanks for checking through the archives!🥃🥃🥃🥃
@@WhiskyWhistle Glen Scotia 15 is more costly in Vancouver and the Benromach is about $138 before taxes. It's excellent and I always have a back up on our bar!! My husband Joel loves it too!! I want to get a bottle of the Glen Scotia 15! 🙂
Glenmorangie 10 review from 2018!czcams.com/video/cypYcPUb52E/video.html

Thanks! Old White Label was sooo good!! Cheers🥃🥃🥃🥃
cocoa, dark prune, my grandma's ass crack
The Glen Grant 12 was a pleasant surprise, and the 15 was a huge step up from the 12. The 15 is strong yet soft, complex yet easy to enjoy and in my opinion a damn good whisky.
I’m happy the strengths are better than they used to be! I too love the 15 though some say there is wild batch variance, so ask a friend if they tried the latest batch before buying! Cheers my friend🥃🥃🥃🥃
A lot of aggressive shaky-shaky with the glencairn.

Just wondering, I didn't catch the ABV. on this btl? Really 💭 thinking about picking up soon 🤔
A mildly robust 46.7%! Does not seem lacking at all. This is one of my fave not too pricey bottles(maybe $50 or less on sale for you) and a distillery I am now a huge fan of. Cheers from Korea, amazingly from an area surrounded by foggy smoky mountains in Gangwon Province! Cheers🥃🥃🥃🥃
Mark! Glad that you asked about 💦 I learned long ago that ( from whisky 🥃 and bourbon vids ) -- it really changes the many flavors of the juice) Cheers from ETn Smoky Mtns area 😂❤
Hi Richard @richardbarrick1492 , thanks, you said it! Rarely is it ever a bad thing - I’ve only experienced it once with a Glenfiddich earlier this year, I think because it’s heavily chill filtered, and I have a suspicion they use paper filters. Adding water made it taste like…paper(intense tannins) vid for reference! Great whisky but IMO don’t add water! czcams.com/video/9MkPgrOiBA0/video.htmlsi=H1iQgTW5wzSBmiW8 Cheers🥃🥃🥃🥃
@@WhiskyWhistle Appreciate the help and info, so anything in the say, 40% abv. range doesn't need much messing with. I guess you know too much water will ruin a good 🎭 dram!

@calldyuk1751 amazing right? Very chlorophyllic savoury. Honestly one of the whiskies I want to drink in summer. Which lowland came in your set? @@WhiskyWhistle Love your channel very much Mark! Have an awesome day! 🙂
I have a question. Months ago, probably over a year at this point, we were talking about the Bowmore 21 Master's cut Aston Martin. We were talking about enjoying it as a dram and about as an investment. I checked whisky base the other day, and at one point is was over €1200, now it has dropped to € 840. Why would that happen to such an amazing bottle of rare whisky? Is that normal? And does that mean it's not as great an investment, or could it still go back up and beyond in time to come? I love whisky for enjoying, but there is also a real excitement and passion I find in collecting and investing, but such a blow when the 2ndary value plummets! Anyway, glad you're well! Slainte!
Yes I recall - I think as the newer editions were released some of the excitement of the first edition dissipated. But yes I think it will recover. Even 840 Euros is much more than I paid, and it should eventually sell for more than the subsequent editions. I think long term it will do well as it’s essentially cask strength, long aged, and plus a unique Aston collab. Plus it looks like interest rates are beginning to drop which should increase spending money and increase values on collectibles. Then there’s the increasing thirst in China and India(even Korea) Just my thoughts! Sometimes long term is key. I have a Glenfiddich 21 Havana that I bought 10 years ago. It didn’t budge until about 3 or 4 years ago. But I might just end up opening it along with a newer version! Cheers bud🥃🥃🥃🥃
@@WhiskyWhistle Great info! I might just be tempted to open many of my "current" collectables as well. The whisky lover in me seems to outdo the investor in me. Hopefully I can muster the disappoint to keep a few good ones. Cheers!
Great to see you back! And great review .. as always!
Much appreciated! Will get another out in a few days - the Glen Scotia I think! Cheers my friend🥃🥃🥃🥃
@@WhiskyWhistle In the word of Mr. Burns from the Simpsons .. "excellent! I'm there, Cheers!
Hi Mark, it's great to see you again. I can't tell you how happy I am to see Rocky as well. I used to have a Yorkie. Well, back in Korea? Do tell. I have had a bottle of this Arran 18 and I remember it being very good. It's some years ago though and I'm not sure it's being produced any more. There seems to be a 17 year old version with similar spec doing the rounds. Isn't it interesting how the world of whisky has changed during our period of occupancy my friend. It wasn't that long ago when we were buying and drinking whisky like this all the time. I want cask strength if it's over £100 these days. I couple of nights ago I dipped into the stash and opened my final Old Pulteney 21 and it's absolutely delicious. I'd forgotten how good old, top dressed, whisky can be. The whisky in my bunker is worth a tidy sum bit I never bought it to flip. I knew the day would come when old whisky would be out of reach so I put aside a few for the future. A few became boxes cluttering the house and so I've decided the time is right to start opening that good stuff, enjoying it and decluttering. My wife has been extraordinarily patient. All the best. WT
Epic comment WT! Thanks so much. Yep, a big move, but for the better. Likewise, it’s time to crack some of the stash. We knew this day would come but I never figured it would be this soon! That OP 21 must be special. The 17 is already top notch! Cheers my friend🥃🥃🥃🥃Always nice to hear from you.
Wonderful review Mark. Thanks 🥃 I've reached for this bottle a few times but wasn't absolutely sure... I am now. Especially since it's priced much more reasonably than most 18 year old sherried single malts.
Lorenz thank you!! Glad you will get one. I see Total Wine has some in your neck of the woods! Thanks for voting on the upcoming vid! Will do that again! Cheers my friend🥃🥃🥃🥃
Nice! too bad I cannot find it here anymore. Reminds me of Glendronach 18 and Tamdhu 18.
Great thoughts! I def need to find Tamdhu 18 before long. And thanks for taking part in the selection!! Cheers @vangstr!🥃🥃🥃🥃
Had 3 of these a few years ago when they were around 124 cad. Down to 1 bottle left and finding it harder and harder to get another backup as they sell out so fast in Alberta.
Hope you can find one. If they come in at $200 I’ll get another. These newer distilleries should hopefully take the pressure off..in 10-15 years 🤣🤣 Cheers Peter🥃🥃🥃🥃
@@WhiskyWhistle They are available at 200 in Alberta but by the time it gets to Ontario it's pushing $300. The LCBO does not get anything that anybody wants, although the 1940 Macallan might be available.🤣
@peterwhite507 stalk the sales🤣 yep, they are clowns I tell you. Actually losing tax dollars through mismanagement.
Wonderful Whisky. Only problem is it seems to dissappear from the bottle 😂. Must be a leak? 😅 Cheers
I’ve noticed this phenomenon as well🤣 Cheers @DonnerPassWhisky!🥃🥃🥃🥃
I'm so mad. I bought the blue XR some 10 years ago, didn't know much bout it. Drank it w some friends. I should've kept it and sold it
Not sure if the money is worth more than the time with friends!
88??;;... in my opinion............84 or low of 80's..... t.t it's not deep at all
Well, it is my score! Cheers🥃🥃🥃🥃
@@WhiskyWhistle I guess I was expecting a 90's Macallan's sherry...But, I'm watching it now while sipping on a Macallan Maker's Edition highball.... lol
Probably quite high on the bourbon component. Some of that series are all sherry but not this one! I recently cracked a newer Mac - a night on earth in Scotland - do not recommend! A classic cut highball would be nice though. Cheers🥃🥃🥃🥃
Arran 18
Great choice!! Cheers Lorenz🥃🥃🥃🥃
Recently got that for the collection. Thank you for the review. From Russia with love.
Enjoy! Glad you could find one! Cheers🥃🥃🥃🥃
Wish I was rich like this dude
Hey now…Years of hoarding. I drink 80% mid to bottom shelf(some $10 a bottle blended Scotch and cheaper single malts or bourbons like Evan Williams BiB) so I can afford these! A little ad revenue and Patreon funds gets me the odd nice bottle to review. Cheers🥃🥃🥃
Not familiar with Soju. Gonna find out. In dutch when something bad happens like hitting your thump with your hammer we say Sodeju.
Too funny! You might have Hwayo available- essentially pot distilled rice wine that is aged in clay pots - think new make but refined! Cheers🥃🥃🥃🥃
@@WhiskyWhistle thnks for mentioning Mark. Gonna do some research. Sounds interesting. Slainthe
I’d like the makers mark46 please
Hi Gerrit! That’s a Private Selection but good choice! Cheers my friend🥃🥃🥃🥃
@@WhiskyWhistle thnks Mark. Thnk God that one is easily available. Its a stunner. But right now im smelling and tasting a French one called Armorik. A single cask Portugese Vinho STR cask strength 6yo spirit. Also stunning. Cheers
@gerritgreveling Definitely want some Amorik! Got the Glann Ar Mòr Maris Otter malt which is quite good. Some lovely whiskies coming out of France and frankly all the European countries nowadays! You are spoiled for choice! 🥃🥃🥃🥃
@@WhiskyWhistle yes indeed. Living in Europe has its advantages. But not familiair with Glann ar mor. Only by name. My sister is called Maris so I’ll find her one. She loves her whiskies. But as always some research first Thnks for mentioning. Cheers Mark. \m/
Arran 18
Nice. It’s great stuff!! Cheers🥃🥃🥃🥃
Moving kinda fast but the Ledaig and then the Glen Scotia.
Ledaig Sinclair Rioja or Ledaig SMOS? Yeah sorry was too fast!!! Cheers bud🥃🥃🥃🥃
@WhiskyWhistle I'm not a peat head but love how red wine barrels seem to go so well with scotch like Longrow Red Pinot Noir.
I'm voting for the Glen Scotia and the Daftmill :-)
Solid choices! I’ll give this vid a couple days and then go by the vote! Cheers Ray🥃🥃🥃🥃
Where to find the manufacturer date on the bottle
Usually there isn’t a clear date. There will be a bottle code, usually at the back on the near the bottom of the bottle, or on the back of the label. There might be information online about deciphering the code, or you might find someone who knows. Worst case you can email the producer and ask. They’ll usually tell you.
@@WhiskyWhistle i tried but i couldn't find..at the bottom they say u see 2 numbers that says the manufactured year but for sir Edwards I couldn't see
I saw this at Hargrave & Ellice today (hi fellow pegger!) and came here to find out more afterwards. You sold me on it! Like you summarized, there is no reason not to. I've tried baiju once before (Luzhou Laojiao - like rogerlin8145 said, it is quite famous, rightfully so. It is also not too hard to get. I just asked a Chinese friend of mine who knew a guy.) and this is definitely a more economical and available option. p.s. I'm a native Korean and you know more about our Zodiac stuff than I lol.
