Stagg Jr is good for me, but for the price, it's hard to justify. I would love either. Thanks for your thoughts Mark, cheers!

I'm a big fan of Stagg Jr and have a couple bottles. I've never heard of 291 Colorado. Great review.

Hard to get up here! One state run shop does these, twice a year or so. I got super lucky nabbing the 16! Cheers🥃🥃🥃🥃

Can it be called bourbon if only 1 year? I guess I am wrong lol

Ah I must be thinking about "bonded" nevermind=)

It sure can! It can be called bourbon once it has been in a virgin charred American oak cask. No time specified. Hours. Hence my comment “a day old”! The caveat is that straight bourbon(most you find will be straight bourbon) is 4 years minimum with no age statement and 2 years minimum with an age statement. In general, I’d say stick to straight bourbon(or bottled in bond for an idea of ultra small batch from the same season and same distiller and no more no less than 50% vol, aged 4 years minimum in bonded warehouse) but in the case of craft distilling, for me at least, an age statement and/or distillation and bottling(disgorging) dates make me happy. This 291 Colorado bourbon is actually more expensive at retail than Stagg, but the smaller the distillery the more expensive things get. I already tried the rye, so I knew they make superb stuff. Meticulous fermentation, careful slow triple distillation, hand picked casks, using rye malt in the mash, finishing with Aspen oak staves. I guarantee their new make is fabulous. One year in oak at altitude. They also use both the open air sour mash process as well as adding stillage to the mash, though in this case from IPA beer. With both Distillery 291 and Stranahan’s in Colorado, I definitely want to go and visit someday.

Stagg is pricey but not worth the money
