Simple Clamp Racks And MFT Angle Cutting
Another bit of workshop housekeeping - extending my clamp racks. Very simple design these. In making them, realised how effective my variable angle fence for the MFT is at cutting angles on small workpieces. On small workpieces - like these elm clamp rack supports - cutting the mitres can mean your fingers perilously close to the blade of a mitre saw or table saw, absent any means to clamp.
Jigs can be made for just this of course but, the angle fence for the MFT, using the guide rail as a clamp, makes cutting mitres on very small pieces safe and easy. What's not to like there?

    Thank you for the video. Gives me a few ideas to organise. I find the anti skid rubber under the tracks, weight of the saw is a great hold down for small cuts. Not sure why others don’t recommend it. I do add a longer piece of wood behind it as that supports the track and a far lesser chance of the wood moving under the track while cutting.

    This looks like a nice mitre fence and gauge, I am sure it has some advantages over the incra and some disadvantages. Here is my concern about the recent obsession about China tools, and each indivdual has to make uo their own mind, at some point, supporting China made goods, which are often rips offs of North American R&D will cost! Ill leave it there for each to ponder. Thank you for the video

    • @BischBaschBosch
      @BischBaschBosch Před 6 dny

      The Hongdui gauge and fence are exceptional. And are unique, not rip offs of N American R&D. Incra have stood still for 20 years. Plenty of time to refine these products but chose not to. Obsession is a strong word. It's not obsession, more that Chinese manufacturers have "arrived" now. They've moved beyond cheap knock offs (though those are still available) and - as is the case with companies like Hongdui - are creating unique, exquisitely made and, compared to the West, reasonably priced tools and accessories. Sure, China has engaged in blatant coppying, reverse engineering and industrial espionage even. But that's nothing new and, let's not pretend western companies haven't made out like bandits from the cheap manufacturing offered by China! You can still buy genuine N American if that's your preference as I can buy British. In the end though, I couldn't give a shit where something's from. If it's good and assists me in producing quality work, I'm for it. I have many tools from the US, Britain (of course), Japan, Canada, Australia and Germany. I am pleased to be able to add China to that list personally.

    • @BischBaschBosch
      @BischBaschBosch Před 8 dny

      The Mafell motor isn't suitable for drilling and sanding. It's too fast, even on its slowest speed. What you can do is use the mafell for you milling and routing tasks then, swap the motor for a corded percussion type drill. These drills have the same 43mm collar as the mafell so will fit in the same mount. They also have a lock-on function which is useful for drilling and sanding. They're not too expensive either. If you search for my "drill stand" videos (2 parts) I show it with both this type of drill (From Bosch) and with the mafell 👍

    Cool jig. Reminds me of the Shinwa Aluminum Sliding Bevel With Angle Scale (models 62660 or 62661), which fixes 2 of the 3 attachments, then graduates the third as a sliding point marked in degrees using the law of cosines

    • @BischBaschBosch
      @BischBaschBosch Před 9 dny

      Cheers. Just looked at the shinwa. They make some great, affordable layout tools. Using Cos would 've been cool but I like my fixing bar (That makes the bevel a triangle) adjustable either end for best/secure locking. If it had a fixed pivot one end, you could certainly use the cosine rule to work/mark out angle indication. 👍

      It's got 95 degrees of movement, so it can sit parallel to the normal or parallel to the rail - even 5 degrees of undercut. I made it mainly for the mitres on chair components. Especially the seat pieces. To cut them at the mitre saw, they'd hang out the front, unstable. Also difficult to mill on my over-router. A breeze on the mft though👍

      If I remember right, one of the dewalts has a 19mm slot, the other a 24mm slot. If you have a 19mm, the Hongdui gauge would fit fine. If you have the 24mm slot, i don't know. 5mm is a lot of gap to fill with nylon screws. You might be better off fitting the Hongdui gauge to the dewalt mitre bar🤷‍♂️

    Stu, man with patience…. You turning technique for dowel going down sizes makes perfect sense when considering how this would work on a lathe. Knock the square bits off and work in 👍🏻

      I was very close to admitting defeat tbh. Glad I didn't! Yeah, exactly. It's what I have to do turning dowels on the over-router too - knock of the edges, then work in slowly. 👍
