MFT Angle Cutting Fence For Plunge Saws From Aluminium Extrusion Profile

  • In this, the second video about using aluminium extrusion profiles in the workshop, I'm making an adjustable angle cutting fence for my MFT type bench top. A sliding bevel I suppose you could call it.
This will allow me to utilise the plunge saw for reliable, clean cut mitres for my furniture components. Something the mitre saw and table saw are a little inconsistent at. Furniture needs a little more finesse than they can offer.
Avery straight forward build this one but, one I think could be of genuine use to some hobbyist woodworkers and tradesman alike.
Mine is mounted to a Benchdogs MKII Fence System but, as I mention in the video, it could just as easily mount to a couple of dogs with something like Dave Stantons "Dogs Locks".
I'm using a Mafell MT55CC saw and rail in the video but track saw and rail type won't affect compatibility.
For new 20mm profiles and accessories, a good one stop shop is Ooznest in the UK. Link below.

Cool jig. Reminds me of the Shinwa Aluminum Sliding Bevel With Angle Scale (models 62660 or 62661), which fixes 2 of the 3 attachments, then graduates the third as a sliding point marked in degrees using the law of cosines

Cheers. Just looked at the shinwa. They make some great, affordable layout tools. Using Cos would 've been cool but I like my fixing bar (That makes the bevel a triangle) adjustable either end for best/secure locking. If it had a fixed pivot one end, you could certainly use the cosine rule to work/mark out angle indication. 👍

If Benchdogs don’t offer to partner with you to make that there’s something wrong with them. Great job fella

Sure they've got enough going on. So easy to make though. Cheap too. Thanks chap👍

Now that is a cracking idea, you should defo do a deal with Benchdogs mate 👏👏

That jig is B R I L L I A N T!! You should absolutely make that a product before Benchdogs does!😃 I bet that jig would sell quite well, very good job on it! I genuinely laughed out loud at the "Dave Stantons guide rail attachamajigs..." Between this and your guide rail hinge setup, you're a fantastic innovator, I look forward to seeing more!

😁 Nah, I won't be making it a product. Would make a good addition to the BD fence though. Thanks mate👍

Well it definitely would be a great product, again well done with that. To be clear, I just found what you called Stantons guide rail dog hooks very humorous, wasn’t criticism of him at all.👍

@@redhornet07 Its cool. I meant it to be silly mate. Someone above thinks the attachamajig isn't even Dave Stantons, so I might have miscredited him anyway. Mine field innit😂

Stu... I've 3D printed a couple of bench dog stops (like the Dave Stanton hook widgets) that work with the Mafell/Bosch rail in that it clips onto the bottom and is offset to prevent the saw crashing into the dog. Been using them for several weeks now and find them really useful. Be happy to send you a couple to try out if you wish.
BTW, used a couple of good fire door hinges to copy your rail hinge system. It works fantastically well. I use one of my dog stops to locate the other end. Thanks for your tips and tricks.

Nice one mate. They sound neat. If you're on Instagram, send me a dm. Glad you found a hinge that worked out. That's the trick really 👍

Excellent idea Stu, I’m sure you can do a deal with Ralph to get this produced 👍.

Thanks mate. It'd probably make a decent addition to BD Fence products but, I'm in no mind to make it one. I'm happy for anyone to make it, for themselves or others. 👍

Great idea. But I think you may have missed a trick as the bench dog fence is rather redundant as is the white length used as the reference against it. A simpler approach would be to have the black rail pivot along its length on one dog hole and then the linking arm reference and lock to one of the other holes. It’s the holes not and their relationship with the rail which is key. There’s a trick I use for cutting picture frame mitres on an mft with a ujk mft square which illustrates the benefits of clearing the mft of everything but the rail and its cut line and one reference object. Anyway I may drop an email with a sketch of what I mean. But love your making videos again. Cheers K.

Cheers Karl. Funny enough, I did think about pivoting on a dog. Couple of reasons I didn't. First is I wasn't happy with the nearest hole location to rail edge. Second was the ability to slide it into whatever position along the BD fence. Other than for thin rips, I'm not sure yet why I want that "infinite" adjustment. Just happier knowing it provides options, you know? If you've got my IG, I'd still like to see more, though I get what you're describing. No harm in showing options for the same results I think. 👍

That beats the tar out of festool’s angle protractor thing. I have little use for such a thing, but you nailed it.

I had been considering building pretty much an identical thing beat me to the punch 😊 interestingly I too had got as far as deciding using a digital angle measure as the hinge was over engineering it would probably find as easy to just transfer the angle as you do...

      @BischBaschBosch  Před 6 měsíci

Been on my mind for a while too. Only because I'm giving the shop and machines a full winter service I finally got round to it. I still think an angle finder as the hinge a good idea. I'm literally only using mine for chair components though so I'm just as well using my cnc'd templates.👍

Ever since dave stanton ripped off the design of the rail dog stops for track saws and then made out it was all his own idea, I stopped watching him. I bought some 3D printed one's on eBay in 2020. Yeah there is no patent but claiming as your own went beyond. Great idea that angle fence.

I don't know who's idea they were tbh mate. Just know I've seen a lot of folk refer to them as Dave Stantons🤷‍♂️ Glad you like the fence👍
