  • In this, part 2 of my documenting the build of a lightweight, modular plywood cabinet for the workshop, I concentrate on making the drawers and other finishing touches. I also show a neat way to create mushroom drawer knobs with just one bandsaw setup! To finish, as the new cabinet has meant I can reshuffle the workshop, I give a little workshop tour.
    Hope you enjoy!

    Loved the resourcefulness in this one and the modular design. I too was happy as a pig in shhhh watching it come together. And a bonus workshop tour too!! 👌

      😁 Cheers Keith. Yeah, pretty happy I was able to turn the old cab bits into a more appropriate new one . Not much to show in my "tour" but, this layout should give me room to try making a turntable that slots in the mft for working on chairs.👍

    Ok so this is genius. My opinion. As someone prone to over engineering, mainly due to a lack of skills, this is brilliant to see. Thank you

      Thank you mate. No harm in over engineering in wood. Needs to be a lot of the time. Ply though and laminations generally- they allow you to slim your creations down a bit😁👍

    New cabinet is excellent! You really do have a knack for coming up with unique, innovative stuff. And the new light does make a huge difference! Looking forward to seeing what you make in the reorganized shop!

    This build inspired me to make a rack case for my band, although I did it differently due to my love for making stuff up on the spot and designing on the fly.
    Basically I made the sides and back out of two frames of 12mm plywood thin rips with glued on 3mm MDF panels.
    Then the top and bottom was just thin rip stretchers glued and screwed to the frames.
    The top got a lid and the bottom is open because it's going onto another case and needs to run cables down into it.
    The front is open and has two diy birch rack rails with tapped holes.
    Then the whole thing was painted black.
    Really lightweight and strong, thanks to your thin rip concept inspiring me!

    Really like that modular system. A track system on the ceiling along with a magic arm would give you a movable camera off the floor and a great project!

    • @BischBaschBosch
      @BischBaschBosch  Před 3 měsíci

      I agree. I'd love to do that. Fibre cement fireboard on the ceiling which I can't touch unfortunately (I rent). I could attach some sort if magic arm to the wall though. Funny enough, I've been thinking about making one for holding chair frames. Didn't even think about doing one for a camera!👍

    Re the tripod, I've seen a couple of CZcamsrs build overhead gantry sytems for their cameras and lights. Re the cabinet, I'm just about to build something very similar, so cheers for that. 👍

      @BischBaschBosch  Před 3 měsíci

      I'd live a gantry camera/light set up mate. Ceiling has fibre cement fireboard though and I'm not allowed to touch it (I rent). Good luck with the cabinet mate👍

    That’s a very solid effort Dude. I have read the other comments and I don’t mind saying, I would love see one of the boats you built. Those skills aren’t going out of date, looking at the way the climate is going….😅

      Thanks mate. Love to show you more. Thing is, it's like when I posted a video of one of my construction jobs on here and folk asked to see more - we just didn't archive everything with photo/video like people do now. Hard to make a video about boat builds when all I have to show is a handful of Polaroids 😂 We're talking late 80's, early 90's you know? Mind you, I do spot some of the boats I was involved in building still about here in Cornwall. I could try and accumulate some footage of some this summer I guess.👍

      @dwalsh3469 Před 3 měsíci

      Don’t go to any trouble Dude. It must be a good feeling to see life saving / life supporting craft that you built still in service. That’s in a different league (ahem) to most woodworkers / crafts people. @@BischBaschBosch

    Nice job Stu! I like my workshop furniture to look a bit more utilitarian, but at the end of the day it's a tool to do a job. Your workshop may be a bit tight, but you've squeezed a lot into it, and anyway, it's not the workshop or tools that make things...it's the imagination and skill of the artisan 👍

    Love the modular cabinet. I think I'm going to do something similar as a skeleton frame for the table saw. It needs a permanent home as it's going to be a central tool. I'm going to need to rethink the whole MFT thing too. I love it, but don't use it as much as I thought I might. I still want to keep it but need to think about maybe swapping out the top when tracksaw work is needed.
    Another top notch video Stu.

    • @BischBaschBosch
      @BischBaschBosch  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Thank you mate. It's a funny thing the old mft. Quite a few folk end up not really using it. I find it essential myself, though for its clamping options more than plunge saw. Depends how we work I guess.
      I'd beef up a skeletal frame a bit for a table saw. Something like 60mm rips of 18mm ply? I use 4040 aly profile for my table saw. Works well for it. Does cost a bit more mind.👍

    Great p2 well worth the wait the unit it self is interesting to me as i need to make another stand for my axminster saw and could do with the stand being modular giving more room when needed but i think i would have to beef it up a little bit
