Mitre Clamping Block For Any Angle - Even Curves!

  • Probably the worlds best mitre block because...it'll even allow you to clamp a mitre joint on work pieces with a curved profile. Necessity being the mother of invention again (it's the first I've seen of this design but, if it rings a bell, do let me know below), this little widget enabled me to clamp a curved arm rest to a straight leg for a new chair design.
    Seems woodworkers workshops are never complete without 1000 clamps. I seem to also have created as many jigs and aids for clamping my - often testing - looping frame furniture designs too! Most of the previous ones can be replaced by these new little fella's though.
    Love to hear your thoughts on them below.

      Thank you mate. Kind of had this footage a few weeks. Thought I might as well put it out there. Actually proved a nice break. Maybe a video every 2 months is my sweet spot😁

    Great idea and so simple but ingenious! Beats the 15 clamps around one angle I usually end up with. Thanks for sharing it.

      My pleasure mate, cheers. Yeah same. A few times I've had clamps going all over a joint😂 These genuinely work though.👍

    At the beginning of the video I was like nah doesn’t make sense. At the end I think it’s a great idea! Maybe a thicker square with a shallow hole for the dowel. And some type of soft material under the square

    • @BischBaschBosch
      @BischBaschBosch  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Thanks mate. Glad you watched until it made sense😁 I thought about adding a rubber or silicone pad but, I have suffered some staining from the materials after use (glue and grime build up I suppose). My little squares are walnut sap so nice and soft - no marking. Thicker might be a good idea. Have a go at some I say, try you own mods to it.👍

      I’m an old retired home builder, fifty five years in the trades. I only come out from hiding to work when a project is worth my while and I really want to build it. I leave that to the kids for the most part these days.
      I have a nice shop and I keep myself busy building furniture,,,,,,,,,,,,, and chairs. Furniture casing is boxes for the most part. Boxes and straight edges are easy to clamp, chairs curve all the time and in the oddest of places at times ,ha ha ha, and have driven me crazy in the past finding adequate clamping solutions.
      Your solution hit me in the head like a brick! Why hadn’t I thought of that myself? I can’t wait until I’m in a place where I’ll be using this technique. Thanks again.

    Mitre bollards! Very clever! Thank you for sharing the idea.
    This is the first time I've heard of Cascamite glue. Could it be the topic of a short video explaining its advantages?

    • @BischBaschBosch
      @BischBaschBosch  Před 6 měsíci

      Ah..."mitre bollards" is such a good name for them!😁 On Cascamite, there's not an awful lot to say but I could perhaps do a short vid on the 3 glues I use for my furniture and why. 👍

    Instead of using double sided tape on the face could you use abrasive paper stuck to the aid?This should give you the friction and be able to use multiple times and no messy residue. Harder to line up maybe?
    Just a thought

    • @BischBaschBosch
      @BischBaschBosch  Před 7 měsíci +2

      Cheers Doug. Abrasive paper would be great to help them stay put under pressure, if you need a lot of pressure. I use the tape though as I can stick them on one by one. It's fiddly to get the clamp on them without a 3rd hand if you don't use tape. 😁 Its easy enough to clean up. Just use a tiny piece👍

  • @ricos1497
    @ricos1497 Před 7 měsíci

    Great solution. Would it be worthwhile cutting slots/profiles in the dowel so that it could slide over the head of the clamp at one end, and drill a hole in the dowel at the other that the screw portion of the clamp could fit into, to allow you to put the spacers onto the clamp first and then apply the clamp as you would any other? Rather than the double sided tape I mean. You just pop them on the clamps when you need them and take them off after. Possibly overkill!

    • @BischBaschBosch
      @BischBaschBosch  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Cheers. I mean, yeah, that could be done I think. I suppose choosing a clamp with feet that don't make it too difficult would help - unlike the g-clamps I used. A little spot of tape does OK for me though.👍

    Always use larger parralell clamps and curved cauls

    • @BischBaschBosch
      @BischBaschBosch  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Cauls have their uses but, then you have a curved profile and an accute mitre, they won't help much. That's where these widgets come in.👍
