Yes,a few months ago I was taking a general photo of a street in my town which included a bus stop full of people, when a woman walking towards me stopped and asked me if I was taking a photo.I said yes and got the "you can't do that" reply,I then walked away with her following behind still telling me the same thing and me replying "public access" over and over again until she went away.I do wish these people would educate themselves to the law before they start bawling us out.But then that would spoil it for them and as we know, they know everything already............................................................
My Nikon P7800 is always with me: small, compact, shoots raw & 28-200 telezoom.
Top man Brian, well said. I think it's been a creeping tide of the authoritarian society we live in. Maybe this became more prevalent since 2020 and various things happened around the World. People must realise that ever since the invention of the camera we have documented society as it is when and where we are. We photographers are a really important group and MUST continue to take photographs of ordinary life and of the more interesting things around us. I run a travel vlog @thehappytravellers but have never been approached in this way. Enjoyed the vlog (my first time here) and like your style :)
Is that a camera in your pocket or are you just happy to see me? I don’t routinely have a camera with me. Maybe I should but I don’t. I have the GX8/85/9. One of those bodies would do nicely. Either the PL15, P20 or 25 would make a nice combination. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
It's because the masses no longer use a camera, so it stands out. As someone said below if it was a phone nobody would bat an eyelid. If your doing street photography you do get odd looks all the time and what's amazing is if your near the bus terminals over the intercom comes ' if you see someone acting suspicious phone ?????' that's in my local city of Liverpool. The secret is to do street photography on a regular basis like each week and embrace the fact that CCTV cameras get to know you. I now find I photograph always around the area where there are cameras if someone challenges me about my work I can point to the CCTV cameras saying your being watched all the time with a camera, it tends to calm the situation down. So the secret is what ever city your in know where the security cameras are including those that are in the shops and you will feel prepared & safer for knowing this.
Nice cars - and nice photos too. Unfortunate the light wasn't better, but you still got the shots, and that's the most important thing. I always carry a camera in my bag. Some weeks it's a Sony NEX-6 with a nice prime lens, other weeks, it's one of my MFT cameras - usually with the Lumix 20mm f1.7. If my bag is full, I might bring a little compact like the Olympus XZ-1 (a favourite of mine), if my bag is light, I might grab a DSLR or a big hybrid. Even when the weather is terrible, and there is a 99,9% certainty, I won't get any use out of it, I still carry a camera - it just changes from week to week what I'm in the mood for.
It says more about the protester than it does you mate
Hi Brian, Good video. I mostly take with me my Olympus Pen F with the pancake 14-42 mm ez on my walks. Ton
Great video, Brampton is a lovely little town. I think a bit of wear a d tear is a sign of a well used camera. My old Fujifilm X-E2 was looking a bit tired when I replaced it. I looked after it but it went everywhere with me and it went around the world multiple times (I work in the maritime sector and fly around way too much). Now my E-M1X goes everywhere, with the Zuiko 12-100 as the default lens. At the risk of sounding like a dreadful amateur I also make heavy use of my Samsung S23 ultra camera phone. I know a lot of photographers recoil from camera phones but i find the S23 ultra gives very good results within its limits.
@@johnbradshaw5900 a photo is a photo. If it’s a good shot then it really doesn’t matter what it’s taken on. The best camera is the one that you have with you and if that’s a phone then great.
... i have most of the time a camera with me , usually the Lumix LX 100 in black. On holidays some days no camera, to capture the spirit of the country and its inhabitants more intensely.
Relics of a bygone era when Britain was great. Kind of sad to see it now.
I often carry my newly acquired silver Oly EP-7 with the lumix 12-32 , love it , only 420g all in.
Since you stopped geting to know your neighbor or your co worker and care what a twat you never met is doing on insta and fb. Since family became a burden to be endured. Tou lose humn contact and stop caring and you become a prick.
Was taking photos at a local pond when a woman with a small child arrived. She said "I hope your not taking photos of my child" to which I replied "if she aint got fur or feathers i,m not interested" She shut up. This was the only time I have encountered this, most people stop and ask me about my camera etc and we have a nice conversation. Unfortunately there are "Karens about, both male and female so my advice to you is keep doing what your doing and if approached be nice.
Totalitarian governments worldwide have no respect for human life at any stage of life and will commit any crime against humanity to retain power. Unfortunately good people are normally not in positions of power which is why we have to trust in God and be a good example to those around us.
Ive had a few little confrontations.- One bigger one i like to walk around my local neighbourhoods and just take photos of random stuff , could be a tree in nice sunlight , could be a nice flower etc. I was taking a photo of a street , there was nobody at this early morning time and a random guy came from his house seeing me taking a photo of this tree. The first thing he says is "I dont want you taking photos , there are also kids playing her sometimes" Yeah i was instantly done with this man. Didnt even bother explaining. Some people are not even worth a talk lol.
Thank you for sharing this video Brian. I like doing street photography in the United States. I know that the potential for a confrontation is out there. We as photographers need to know the law. Please don't stop doing street photography.
I always carry one about with me, I take out the OM1 most days with me.
I always dress in bright colors and smile and wave at people and try to act like a tourist or someone who doesn't really know what they're doing. Oh, and I tell people I'm a student, which I am, but someday I won't be.
"So, we’re done talking about the debate, it’s time to put Trump in a bullseye." Biden July 8, 2024
@@roberttyzzer9310 yes, I’d seen that quote
Remember when trump joked about assassinating Clinton? Aug 9, 2016.
Photos can go viral. People know this. Photographers make a living or hobby trading other objects and peoples images. Whatever the law says it is not being nasty to object to being photograhed. It seeems that now you are becoming aware of this.
Brian, as an American I appreciate your concern for my country and it's institutions. No one should object to any of your sentiments, and you are clearly a man of conviction, but we are not living in rational times in the US, politically, and I would caution you to avoid any political commentary, at any level, if you can possibly avoid it.
@@gregfeeler6910 absolutely. It’s the same over here too. To be honest I don’t want politics on this channel. I don’t mind humanities though. Two people have lost their lives and your political process almost compromised.
Thanks for your words. But it is the fault of the media and politicians using a hateful language against Preside Trump and his supporters.
Thank you Brian for the unbelievable information I also worry for the safety of any right leaning leader in these strange times Take care
It’s come to a point where my wife worries for my safety to even where my Trump hat. Well let me tell you nothing stopping me tomorrow to wear my Trump hat on my Sunday photo street photography walk.
Hello Brian. I'm a MFT user, and I almost always have a camera when out and about. Currently, I have been toting the Lumix G100, with a Lumix pz 14-42mm, Lumix 20mm, or the Olympus 12mm. The Lumix gx85 was my always carry (and still is sometimes), but the G100 is so small and light that it is easy to run around (although a bit small for my fairly large hands.) I also have a G95 and recently bought a used G9 at a bargain price. And, I have too damned many lenses. I usually shoot aperture priority at f4 or 5.6 and an ISO of 400. Weather, lighting, and other specific conditions of course influence settings. Peace.
Similar thing to flying drones , people who don’t no the law ,, ignorance, if I was young and strong to be honest I’d tell them to pee off and mind there own business, nower days would probably dry and walk off and defuse the situation, cheers shane ,, uk 🇬🇧 think , jimmy , and rolf , and that bigrade didn’t do us any good ,,,
Brian, thank you for your concern and comments. I know that we are living in a chaotic world and a civil society should not act as anything but civil. We can choose to respect the person, no mater of the political system they represent, without loosing the respect for ourselves.
Agreed Brian, but you can't spread hate and not think there wont be consequences
What?!?!?!
@@WhoIsSerafin ?
Been watching it on Aussie TV all morning. Absolutely dreadful thing to happen, but then it’s happened before in the great USA. I still remember both Kennedy’s assassinations. It shows the violence and anger that’s been building up, more since Covid, and not just in the USA but here and the rest of the world. Just thankful Mr Trump is OK, but extremely sorry to those in his audience who collected the bullets, obviously meant for him. 🙏
Just posted this to my family members on FaceBook Messenger -- who span the political spectrum here in the US -- "As many people on both sides of the aisle, and from all walks/ways of life are saying -- "Political violence has no place in our country." The citizens of this country should decide who is the next president at the polls, not at the trigger of a gun (regardless of which candidate you support)."
I find it quite unbelievable that 2 people have unsubscribed a video where I show concern for a fellow human being after being shot. I take no political sides, just concern. If they are of that mind then I’m happy they no longer are associated with the channel. Should anyone condone the violence of the incident or claim it to be staged or fake I shall remove the comments and will consider banning from the channel. Whoever and whatever he is, he’s still a human being standing to serve his country and does not deserve to be shot nor shot at.
Let them go, Brian. They’re obviously not worthy of watching your channel. There is nothing wrong in placing your views within your channel. Gosh, our TV channels are full of it! Just sorry this dreadful thing occurred on my grand daughter’s birthday. She suffers from Long Covid, but will always remember this awful day (actually Sunday 14th here). Glad they got the culprit - this time! But very sorry for the others caught up in this mess.
@@trishfre2 thank you. I hope your Granddaughter has a wonderful day.

@@ThatMicro43Guy Don't worry about these subscribers. They are not worth it. Thanks for this video
I’m just hearing this from you. I was afraid this would happen. I’m trusting that God will protect him.
@@AprilClayton unfortunately, I too predicted this to a few of my friends a month ago. It’s times like this I hate being proved right.
I do not take many photos in cities, but I always feel weird about having a camera around my neck unless it is at a "touristy" spot like for instance airshows where probably one in 30 or so people have one. Or museums or such. But if I am just walking around I always feel weird, because people who've only ever used their cellphone and especially never shot film probably think that any camera pointed remotely forward is constantly recording, not their fault for not knowing how an SLR works. It is however their fault for being rude about it. I usually avoid people and have only done photography for two years so I have never run into any negative interactions. But I always again feel a bit weird when walking past someone or something as it feels like they think I'm recording them. So I always have a lens cap on unless I am currently taking a photo, and often tilt it away if I meet someone just to be sure I'm not making anyone uncomfortable. The only real interactions at all I have had have been few, and thankfully positive, for the most part people who do know a thing or two and so notice that I am shooting film most of the time and will be intrigued and ask questions and things. And as for the "pdf-file" accusations, no such person would be using an SLR or other noticeable camera, probably just a cellphone or tiny barely visible spy camera. There is no way they would want to use a camera that gathers attention. For the record, since this behavior seems to vary around the world, I live in Sweden.
Carry a Lumix LX15 in my work bag usually. Takes up no space, good quality zoom compact with 1' sensor.
You were faster than some News outlets. It just now appeared on my local WTOP news in Washington DC. Interesting how that works. Well said on your video

Not something one wishes on their worst enemy! I live in Brooklyn NY and heard it first here!
I’m in USA and it’s heartbreaking but has been brought on by those who wish to harm our country. Praying fervently for our once great country. Thank you for your thoughts.
This makes two of us. Unreal. Please be safe out there, all. ❤ Edit: and you're spot on. It really does feel like we've been regressing, not progressing in a lot of ways. I was just thinking about how unified everyone was for a very brief moment right when the pandemic hit...
Great advice and inspiration...thanks for sharing!
I just tell them to sod off…..it’s got nothing to do with them, I once offered my phone so this woman could ring the police, but she wouldn’t take it so I said mind your own business mrs.
Hi Brian, I always try to take along a camera when I am out on a ‘trip’. I have two m4/3 cameras, a Lumix G6 which is still a brilliant camera, and an original Olympus EM-1. I have 3 lenses, the fantastic Lumix 12-32 pancake lens, a Lumix 14-42 and an Olympus 40-150 all bought used. I must look at the 12-200 though. I print often to A3 and people beg prints off me to frame. I also have a tiny Lumix LX15 compact camera which takes superb photos and has so many features. On top of all those I also have a Canon 750d DSLR with two lenses. So really I have no excuse not to take a camera out with me! 😀
