I don't know, as a filmmaker I always use camera sound only as a scratch audio, the audio used for the production is always recorded separately using a dedicated device.

    Hi Brian,
I see in informatics lots is trending towards USB for anything, like for video and audio too, besides HDMI (output only). I think audio OUT from camera via bluetooth should be no problem, besides battery drain. However audio/mic INPUT might be problematic becase of limited wireless reach, i would not trust at more than 3 meters away from the BT transmitter (maybe they could activate WIFI for this purpose?). Headphone will be probably close enough. But certainly manufacturers should think about this topic!
Also consider - how about skipping the hot shoe - wireless direct to the flash, or to some flash "master"-controller (but open to connect for third parties) ?

Interesting thoughts fellow Brian :) The newest GoPro has it, but for whatever reason, the audio quality is not great with it and as bluetooth tends to be, its finiky keeping connected when moving due to the low power nature of the bluetooth signal - but still it would be nice to have as a backup option when in a pinch.

Good video but bluetooth has disadvantages. I use bluetooth a lot for my phone, or listening to radio, podcasts and the like on a tablet or laptop, but not for video or the TV. The reason is that there is a very slight time lag. Hearing the sound slightly out of sync with a person's lips is very disconcerting, almost unpleasant. I guess the same thing would apply with using a bluetooth mic or headphone on a camera.

Totally agree regarding high bandwidth signals such as video. The time delay is something I had not considered as far as the mic is concerned, although it doesn’t happen on my phone when recording videos. In reality I’d prefer both I.e. still have a physical jack, as I’d want to use the higher quality mics but having the option, especially for monitoring would be a big advantage.

GX85/9 both lack an audio jac. Why? I’m not too keen about the 2.5mm jac in the GX8 but at least it is there. Why LUMIX? Why?
The S9 does have an audio jac. On the left upper side. I think it would be great if LUMIX put the G9ii guts in the S9 body. Then price it at under $899.

Ah, I wasn’t sure about a jack on the S9, thanks for the correction.
