This channel started out as an aquarium hobbyist. I still run a 100 gallon aquarium with about 10 fishes in there but they're all cichlids. Most of my fish in the aquarium is over 10 years old. A few are blind and their backbone is bent. I hope to build this channel to store not only fishing videos but to also have a variety of different interesting entertainment that everyone of all ages can enjoy. There's great potential in CZcams. I wished I had gotten into making content and making CZcams videos many years ago. It's very fun/difficult/challenging to create content, think of what to say during the video, and have a charming personality. You have to be spontaneous, witty, intelligent, with a sense of humor. I admire those that have success on CZcams. It's not easy being a CZcamsr. It's a constant struggle to create scripts, think of new ideas for content, and make it interesting enough so that when your viewers see your video, they want to click on it and watch knowing it's good.
How I caught 4 different kinds of species in LA Harbor
25lbs mono on one rod and the other rod 30lbs mono.
For the Talica rod, I used 2/0 hook.
For the Daiwa BG rod, I used 1/0 hooks on a dropper loop setup.
Third rod was a sabiki I bought from Jimmy Caivo bait and tackle in Long Beach.
Caught fishes on all 3 rods.

Thanks bro. I just found your channel this morning. Did it alert you when I subbed?
@@playdirty714 No it didn’t, I’ve been subscribed to you since I first started my channel a year ago. I remember commenting on your video where you were targeting sheephead in Long Beach
@@FishingWithJRome Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing bro. Grats on the legal halibuts this year. Alamitos Bay was where I started fishing over 30 years ago. I need to come back there and do a video and title it "This is where it all started".
@@playdirty714 Thanks, I appreciate it and you should do it 🙌🏾
what bait do you use for sheephead. been checking out your vids good job mang.
Shrimp. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Another productive day on the water Kenny; I'm surprised that the sheepies weren't feeding that day!
Hey Anthony. Let me know whenever you're ready to go here with me. The weather has been weird lately so not sure if this is the reason why I didn't see sheeps.
I'll be fishing in the harbor for the first time on Sunday. What weight carolina rig or sliding sinker do you recommend? Great video!
The sinkers I used in this video were 2 ounces, 3 oz, and 4oz. Caught fish on all rods so not sure if sinkers mattered. Use anywhere from 15lbs test to about 30lbs mono.
@@playdirty714 that's very helpful! Thank you!
Do you have Sargo and Opal Eye in that channel? Best bait, Fresh baby mussels pry off rocks, ghost shrimp. I saw your vids last year Catching Sheep Head, man your lucking to catch them near those rocks, Down where I'm at, you gotta be on a boat over a Kelp forest off Sunset cliffs, La Jolla to Oceanside coastline. The City close our Ocean Beach Pier for future upgrade, people were catching Large bull sheep heads with whole shrimps.
Sargo is one of the species I must catch this year. It is one of the 6 species I made a bet with 2 of my friends on catching Sargo this year. Person catches biggest Sargo will win $25. So if I catch biggest, I will win $50. $25 from each of them. I have another video coming up where I will reveal where I catch mussels and where I will hopefully be catching them. I used to catch them in Alamitos bay when I first started fishing but they are rare now there.
@@playdirty714 They come up from our southern border Baja Cali when season's usually warmer, gotta wait till summer heat rises, been cold down here lately, they say when you catch one, there is a school of them near by. Where your fishing in the channels, they would usually be by the rocks and such, under piers, Buoys, bridges, near structures by ships.

Hey do you have ghost shrimp areas that you can pump out like muddy estuaries on low tide up where you live? We have a lot down here in San Diego's mission bay area, Ocean Beach's Dog beach across from SeaWorld at mouth of the San Diego River estuary where there are millions of holes these little critters live to pump out. You catch anything and everything with them.
Sadly not that I know of. I know that Sheeheads love ghost shrimps. This was a tip given to me from Terry a commercial fisherman in this area. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Pump ghost shrimp by simple green at super low tide. They're always there!!
how fast are you able to go on the kayak?
top speed is 4 miles per hour with motor
how many miles out from the harbor?
i would say at least a good 4 miles bro

Would you mind making a short vid giving info on kayaking rules around the SP waters? Seems like you fish arounf there alot. I really want to try to kayak fish around there thank you
Honestly I don't know all of the rules in the rule book but some of the common ones are don't fish near the big container ships. You have to be at least 100ft from them and the cranes that hoists the containers. If you have a motor, it has to be registered with the DMV. I finally registered mine 2 months ago. If you hang out along the jetties, no authorities will ever bug you or pull you over. I've fished the area for the past 7 years and have never been pulled over by authorities. One other thing, don't block ship traffic by fishing in the middle of the navigation channels. Make sure you have a fishing license. The Sheriffs can check for fishing license if they want to. I had mine checked in Newport Beach by OC Sheriffs. You are allowed to leave the LA harbor and go beyond the break wall if you want to. It's not as restricted as Huntington Beach Harbor.
@@playdirty714 ok awesome. Thank you. Really want to get me kayak. Maybe I'll see you out there. New sub!

I grew up in Orange County and fished the piers a lot. Do you think Newport is better than Balboa because they’re so close together? I’m American Japanese and my wife is Filipina and we both love Mackerel. It’s April 5th 2024 and I wonder if the mackerel are running yet??? If they are could you let me know please. Thanks, Dan Suzuki, Retired USAF and Vietnam Veteran. 🫡🇺🇸 P.S. What’s your name my friend?
Hello Dan. Welcome. Yes typically mackerels are in the Newport Pier area between March all the way to November. I caught around 50 mackerels a couple weeks ago on the Newport Pier. Was too lazy to film and post. In my opinion, the Newport Pier is better than Balboa because the lighting on Newport Pier is brighter. Plus it's closer to my house and there's more feet traffic. If you take a look at the topography of the pier locations on Google Earth, Newport is at the corner of the peninsula which tends to have more movement in the water. More movement means more probability of fishes moving with the current which means more possibility of you catching them. Now this is all based on my opinion and common sense not scientificly proven. My name is Kenny.
@@playdirty714 Thanks Kenny for the quick response, I appreciate it bro! I just recently subscribed to your CZcams channel because I liked the way you throughly explain everything about fishing. I’m like that too, it must be the teacher in us… Btw, your reason for Newport being a better pier for schooling fish makes a lot of sense. I’ll be checking you out my friend…

Here in san diego you can't be in proximity of a naval base. There are signs all around. One time I was in my kayak and got told to leave by a naval ship (with huge guns on the back) that happened to be nearby
This also happened to one of my viewers except it happened in Anaheim Bay.
I always thought Anaheim Bay was a military bay
It still is but there's also civilians boaters that comes through the Anaheim Bay in and out the Huntington Harbor. There's the naval channel and then there's the civilian boat channel. A motorized kayak according to the DMV is considered a small vessel. If there exists a law or rule that forbids motorized kayaks from navigating through the Anaheim Bay then this law should apply to all civilian boaters (small and big vessels) as well. At least this is my logic. Let me know if you guys find anything in writing on Anaheim Bay regarding this. I'd like to know and so does a lot of the viewers.
so is that a city ordinance or state??
According to Candace from the Orange County Sheriffs at 714-840-5222 number, it's a Federal ordinance due to the naval base.
@@playdirty714 oh i didnt think of that one.... thx
I just got kicked out of there and had to paddle back a few days ago.. Please keep us posted on that!! Thank you always
Kicked out of where and by who? Between the bridge and the mouth of the Huntington Harbor there's no fishing. Do you have a motorized kayak? There's a civilian channel and a naval channel. If you are navigating in and out of the Anaheim Bay using the civilian channel, you should be fine. If you are fishing in the channel then I can see why you got kicked out. It's not allowed to fish in the Anaheim Bay aka Huntington Harbor between the mouth and the bridge.
Different person, different answers. I was told yes you can go out as long as your are motorized and registered....and I've also been told that you cannot go out no matter what
@@bucac1213 This is why I asked for the regulation code #. I don't buy-in to responses like "no you can't do that because I said so".

hey kenny, great video! Where are you launching out of?
A dock typically used by commercial fisherman in the harbor. You can also launch from Cabrillo Beach and it would be the same distance to the fishing spot. Expect a 35-45 minutes paddle/peddle to the spot.
