The rules for PSMCDR are listed below:
For 1955 to 1979 musclecars built in United States and Canadian assembly plants with a minimum warranty of 12 months and 12,000 miles.
Any car running faster than 11.50 will be disqualified and will not have a qualifying time recorded.
Any convertible running faster than 13.50 will be disqualified and will not have a qualifying time recorded.
Casting numbers must be correct for the year and horsepower claimed including intake manifold, heads, and exhaust manifolds. Blocks do not have to be "numbers matching," but they must be the correct displacement. Overbores up to .070" are allowed. Stock cranks only.
All Engines - compression ratio 1.5 extra points allowed over advertised.
The camshaft must be correct for the year, model, and horsepower claimed for the type of lifter (hydraulic or solid). Roller cams NOT allowed.
The valve train must be factory stock for the year, make, and horsepower claimed.
The ignition system must be stock, including the distributor, cap, coil, and wires. Points may be replaced with any electronic conversion that fits under the stock distributor cap.
The carburetor must be correct for the year, make, and horsepower claimed. Jetting and metering changes are permitted. THE CHOKE ASSEMBLY MUST BE IN PLACE AND FUNCTIONAL!
Cast-iron exhaust manifolds are mandatory and must be correct for the year, model, and horsepower claimed. Internal modifications to the exhaust manifolds are NOT allowed. Under no circumstances will headers be allowed, including those cars that came with headers delivered in the trunk. Pipes must be routed as they were originally for the year, make, model, and engine combination. Mufflers must be stock looking in design, that is, oval in shape. No glasspacks or straight pipes allowed unless installed as original equipment. Maximum muffler inlet and outlet size is 2.5 inches. X & H pipes allowed.
The radiator must be correct for the year, make, model, and horsepower claimed. No lightweight, aluminum radiators allowed.
The camshaft must be correct for the year, model, and horsepower claimed for the type of lifter (hydraulic or solid). Roller cams NOT allowed. Duration at .050" lobe lift must be within 1% of factory specs. Lift at the valve must be within 2% of factory specs. Maximum stall limited to 2200 rpm.
The transmission must be correct for year, make, model and engine of the car. 3-speed manuals may be upgraded to the correct 4-speed if originally available.
The rear axle must be of the same manufacturer as the car. Any gear ratio is allowed.
Reproduction tires or radial tires only.You are allowed to run tires one size over stock.
Factory wheels only.

    Back in 1978 in high school I almost bought a dodge demon dart for my first car. Thankfully I ended up buying a Pontiac 69 GTO. 400 , auto with 3.55 gears. Way better looking car with plenty of power. A guy at my high school had a 1970 340 Duster. He had a small cam, headers, thought it was fast. We lined up many times.,I beat him by 5-6 car lengths every time. Then raced his friends 69 Road Runner with a 383 , auto and 391 gears. Beat him by 3 lengths. Mopar or no car I will always take a Pontiac. I still have one today.

    I think if the AMX had slightly taller gears, she might have even ran a little better. That 390 winds up a lot quicker than the longer stroke 455 and was getting out of it's power band a little early from what I observed. If I remember correctly, AMC had a 3.73 diff option, but it was a Dealer install option. If you bought an AMX new, the next taller gear ratio from the 3.91 was the 3.54. Compression Ratio also had a factor. Those extra 65 cube's weren't sqeezin' as hard as that 390. That's where that torque comes from. If the Firebird was against a '72' Javelin AMX, 401/4 speed, at 8.5 C/R, the Firebird would have womp it all day long. If the AMX was against a '70' 400 c.u. Firebird, I think it would lose that race as well. I grew up in Kenosha Wi. so I've always been partial to AMC products and you can make em' run with the best of them. It just cost's more. Back in the '70's a performance cam & lifters for a small block chevy was under a hundred bucks, while the cam alone for my 401 was over 150 bucks. Overall I think AMC's are underrated. I had a '72" Ambassador 4dr sedan, 360/4bbl/duel exhaust that completely destroyed a (new at the time) '85' Iroc Camero from a dead stop. To this day, I always think about how that guy must have felt about getting his ass kicked by a "Rambler". Any AMC fans in my area, drop me a line. I'd love to shoot the shit.     I guess I don't know what a coup is. I believe that all Dusters were coups. 2 door. Hard top. They didn't make any convertables. 340 wedge, 727 torque flight, 323, 8 and 3/4 rear end that I would swap for a 454 gear when going to Bean Blossom eight mile drag strip. I owned three of them back in '80 to '84. Good times!

    Given identical torque ratings I think the shorter final gear ratio gave the advantage here to the Buick. Plus those tires on the Chevy are crap

    You just can't give up 26 ci to a hemi and win. Still solid performance... from both cars. Dipping into the 11s in the Cuda got me a little sticky below the belt too...

    I knew a few guys who worked with the big Hemi at the proving grounds. They said the 426 would dyno at 500 hp all day long. I have to believe the same would have to be true with the Chevrolet 427. Those Chrysler big blocks had the hole shot, but big block Chevrolets sure could make high end power.

    My father had a brand new 68Z 28 crossram cow induction JL8 brakes . He was associated with Bill Jenkins and Dave Strickler. Set a record at the local dragstrip PID for 11.97 But didn’t back it up.

    My 71 clone was punched out 0.30 455. single exhaust hah.. I burned all those 5.0 mustangs back in th day.. they never knew what hit em. I had a 3/8" chain on th driver side holding down the torque side. Beast mode....

    Ok that Fairlane is butchered a bit, GT was manual GTA was automatic, that 15.2 quarter mile was from a hot rod magazine and thats the only numbers you find on internet, l owned a 67 GTA, in consistently ran low 13's, it was a great sleeper car

    It looked like the Pontiac driver had slightly quicker reaction times, but the Cuda was just a little faster.

    The 429 engine was great for melting tires but Ford never did it properly for the street or drags. I think the 428 or 427 would have run much better. IMHO.

    No way that duster was stock. That kind of result with those power to weight numbers don't even remotely work out from a math perspective. Either that or that 340 was HIGHLY underrated from the factory.

    These "stock " races are a joke, cars with 12.5 comp dual carbs race solid cams racing factory standard engine cars are as in balanced as you can get,that's why NHRA have "class " based categories.
