The rare Camaro was good for it's day, but trying to compete, 500 vs over 800 HP deals it an impossible to overcome disadvantage.
With a damned supercharger, what do ya expect? That's not a fair race at all. Let's see that Demon race the naturally aspirated 68 ( or 69, can't remember ) Camaro owned by channel owner "Horsepower Depot" that races in the F.A.S.T. class ( "factory appearing stock tire" ) that is allowed to run a naturally aspirated 632 cu in all aluminum motor. It runs mid 9's regularly, and on STOCK skinny tires. Perhaps you've seen it, it's a Hugger orange "ZL-1 clone". The guy's father has a black '69 Corvette with the same naturally aspirated huge aluminum engine, that holds the current record for the class: a very low 9 .........( I can't recall the exact ET. ) Their youtube channel is: "The Horsepower Depot". Either one of those cars can beat this Demon, even though the Demon has much fatter tires AND a big supercharger.
@@howabouthetruth2157 💯Agree!! He has a great channel as well. and such a great guy.
@@hankhaddock3881 Yeah man! I really like following those guys on their channel........they really know how to get these cars to launch with those factory skinny's on the back. It's all in suspension set ups and retarding the timing during the hole shot. Not as easy as it sounds of course. I'm a Chevy man at heart, but I do like & appreciate all of the good ones by all of the American auto makers. Besides, on another note: I much prefer a naturally aspirated engine over forced induction, because it takes more knowledge & talent to make big power with a naturally aspirated engine. Nothing beats THE SOUND of a naturally aspirated V8 either. The whine of a super charger and the whistling hiss of a turbo charger does nothing for me, lol. Sure, they make huge power much easier, but I still think they sound like shit, lol. I see your other response to me as well Hank, and I'll just answer you here: That clone ZL-1 and especially that black '69 Vette owned by the father & son of the Horsepower Depot would both spank this super charged Hemi without a doubt.......AND with those skinny ass factory bias ply tires, even though the Demon is running fat factory tires, lol. That black '69 Vette owned & raced by his father is still the current record holder in the F.A.S.T. class.....running VERY LOW 9's. That Vette launches SO well, I won't be surprised if or when they break into the 8's. I think those big aluminum blocks are somewhere around 632 cu in........yet they look just like an aluminum Chevy Rat motor on the outside. Amazing. Take care my friend.
I mean it’s obvious not a race for the win, it’s a race of comparison… everyone knows esp the drivers that the demon will take it but by how much??! And the camaro did an amazing job… actually the demon should’ve done much better….
@@c.wdervin5987; The Demon had the a/c on.
Demon wins but the Camaro is a sweet car.
On top of that, that is about a $500,000 Camaro (if the numbers match).
Let's all appreciate a car that is 53 years old ran that time.
lets see that Demon run Penningtons low 9 second L88 Corvette
Outstanding race; it’s always good to see that OLD MUSCLE CAN STILL STRETCH IT’S LEGS OUT‼️
Great race, both peaks of their respective era in many regards. Several laugh out loud moments for me in the commentary. Thank you as always ~ Chuck
This comparison is ridiculous, a car with more than 800 horses, supercharged, against a normally aspirated car with almost 500 horses and base mechanics from the 60s
That demon 😈 is a absolute screamer. 69 camaro LS1 427 come on their isn't any comparison love that camaro. As always great video thank you 😊
I believe the ZL1 was about 512 hp running alt, waterpump and fuel pump. Running w/o alt, electric fuel and water pumps it put out around 545-550hp. Insane for the times ! Demons supercharger has a 😈 cast into it 😆
I think 550 was with open headers....
@@will7its Yeah, on a dyno most engines are run without mufflers. Mufflers won't restrict as much as waterpump and alternator do.
@@benkrom2737 On the L88 corvettes they said just unbolting the exhaust was good for 100 hp.
@@will7its 100hp restriction from mufflers ? What brand were they so I never buy them. Any mufflers I've ever used only ate up 10hp. I think someone hit zero one to many times ! Performance engines have Performance mufflers. They normally don't restrict much.
@@benkrom2737 I didnt say mufflers. It was the factory exhaust from headers back.
Stock corvette exhaust system 1969
I hated to see the Camaro lose, but horsepower is horsepower.
Awesome video and drag race as usual. That Camaro is still fantastic!
No headers and slicks on the ZL1 and still goes sub 12. Nice. The demon should be running in the FAST series.
Please keep the videos coming, I love them and always looking for new ones. I drive a 1966 chevelle SS 427 big block
That Demon was gone great video keep them coming Bro 69 Z-L1 was my dream car when I was young.
Outcome was as expected. Wasn't really a fair matchup, but we did get to see an original ZL1 pull an 11 sec 1/4 mile. That alone is awesome. God what I would do to have a 4 speed 69 ZL1.
Got to say that ZL1 is damn quick.
Mike R, not quick enough, though.
Well that was a expected outcome. If bought cars were NA it would have been different but that's not the case . The automatic in the Dodge keeps the engine in the power band. Also it's helps when just cruising in my option
The right Scat Pack would run pretty even with that ZL1.
@@bovineknievel410 No ScatPack is running in the 11s🤣
A better comparison would be ZL1 vs a Scat Pack that's normally aspirated.
Yeah its a little bit silly this one. Interesting the ZL1 did sub 12 without headers and slicks!
I should have read a little further down. I wrote the same comment! 😄. Good post!
Exactly . My '17 Scat Pack best was 11.83 @119 with M/T ET Street R tires
@@rustbeltflow3523 Yes, once that power (around 500 hp or so) can be translated into forward motion with adequate tires you can get those numbers and even better with some minor mods and tuning.
Pretty much expected this result. Camaro is WORTH more $ thou😜
This is the type of matchups I love. Old school classic muscle vs modern muscle cars. This one was definitely interesting 👍
Such a cool matchup! Great race and commentary! Thoroughly enjoy your videos man keep it up!
Awesome , Thanks C&Z 😀
I've got a demon but would trade.... this being from a Mopar guy.... these were bad cars in the day.. much respect
Camaro would be better matched against a Scat Pack Demon is just way to much for any stock spec car.
In another fifty years, no one will care about the demon. The ZL-1 will only continue to appreciate.
Really Impressive with that Camaro…. Did a phenomenal job…!! I’d expect a 13 sec out of it but really impressive… and this is comin from a demon owner..
Great match up! Great video!👍👍👍👍
Good to see you're back to your old format of videos , miss them ! Oh btw the race on these two cars , take off the supercharger on the challenger , now that would be an interesting race ! That's pure stock to me !
And no computers, etc
So those performance claims for the Demon, what perfect conditions were those done in?
To run almost a second slower and 10 mph off in a day that looks pretty nice for track conditions. A change in atmosphere / adjusted altitude can be pretty big but when you are already supercharged, that is a huge amount of power down. Ten miles per hour on a car that heavy is not a little of but more like 150 hp.off.
One of these cars is worth a million dollars in 2022. I saw a black 1969 ZL1 at the Mecum auction in Chattanooga live October.
Thank you C&Z!! Especially the old laughs!! Great looking cars to be sure!!
Hard to beat a 800hp car.. LOL Thank you to both owners!!
Put a supercharger on the camaro zl1 or turbo and we'll see what the Demon is like?
Demon would get gapped
Got to love that Camaro 💪
I love em both...thanks
The Camero is nice, a strong run also!!
whats a Camero?
That's not bad the camaro is knocking on the back door i believe some performance camaro had option four wheel disk brakes
Damn!....gotta say that in 69 ...the Camaro would have been terrifying !.....both Sweet cars...
This was a historic run! Questions answered! ;) Dodge Demon is INSANE! ;)
Let's be serious, the old Camaro, though powerful in its own right, couldn't go against such opponent, especially since the Demon has a supercharger. But, at least it's much nicer. It's not always about performance.
Yup. What if the Camaro had a supercharger? ....... EFI? .... Variable valve timing? ........ Feedback and ignition controls? Yeah, who knew the Demon would win.
@@richellen6855 what computer traction control?
@@timmebruer5205 Um......I give up. You tell me. What computer traction control? I don't think the Demon has that.
@@richellen6855 every new muscle car has traction control.
@@timmebruer5205 Well, there ya go!
On a 56° day, which some of your videos have been filmed at the Chevrolet very likely would’ve won the race. You just can’t get good traction on a cold day and those older factory type stock tires on the Chevrolet would probably do just fine I’ve seen them do it before. That ZL1 is one of the finest muscle cars ever produced. And coming from an old Mopar guy that says the lot. Excellent race excellent cars. And, excellent as always! Thank you.
Hell yea always good
Jordan Pennington's ZL1 would've been a better match for this Demon
The Demon should’ve had to run regular tires, those drag radials helped a bunch getting that power down.
They're the tyres its sold on, which is the rules for pure stock.
Without cars like the Camaro there wouldn’t have ever been a Demon
Goodday C & Z,
All I can say " WOW "
The god of old vs the god of new.
Regardless of the outcome these 2 Titans have proven themselves.
That ZL1 it was honking & age shall not weary it, it was biting the tail of the Demon.
I recently checked out the ZL1 in my neighborhood as previously mentioned.
2 of those babies came to the land of
" Down Under " & I get to admire it every week day morning & arvo walking to & from work.
Your number 1 Fan in Australia
Louis Kats from Melbourne Australia ☺ 👍 ❤
Take the supercharger off the dodge, and run a fair race. The camaro did great; without a blower.
Translation: waaaaaaaa
Run what ya brung! This from a GM fan!
YESSS! Back to the humor!
The ZL1...all motor. Put a supercharger in it and see what happens. Old school muscle 💪
Just came across this video. I actually pause it to comment. If the Demon doesn't win by at least a second and a half then it's driver error. But I'll take one '69 ZL1 over 5 Demons!
Camaro looks better. I'd take that over the plastic fantastic dodge and I like Chrysler too
As a Mopar guy I am always dismayed at how heavy the Challengers are.
Some engineering needs to be applied to that platform to get the weight reduced.
Yep, when the car first came out Dodge went the cost savings route and used an existing full size car chassis making the Challenger WAY larger than the original. Add all the computers, wiring, cooling system, safety systems, sound system, etc and she’s ready to end any opera.
@@danmyers9372 A real shame, that weight really dulls the performance potential.
@@danmyers9372 that platform was FORCED upon chrysler.
You can thank that German junk company for that.
Chrysler had a rwd platform in the works before the Sellout to mercrap but mercrap nixed that.
@@Welcometofacsistube That german company didnt force crysler to sell out, they love being owned by foreign concerns.....
Wonder the quickest time is for the ZL1
Cool, the demon like 800 plus hp supercharged vs 60 year old technology. That's like putting Kye Kelly Camaro against this demon
both fast AF
Both great investment cars
Just finished the video. Impressive for the ZL1. If Dodge could have put this combination in a lighter car they would be king! Honestly I love all 3 of the big 3. Sometimes they fall victim to the Shelby. But just pure engine they are really good. The coyote is pretty amazing for its size. I love the pushrod engine. Dodge or Chevy.
Camero should have at least been allowed to use racing slicks; Demon tires were already wide for grip and racing.
Just thinking about the driveline stress when accelerating a 4400 lb plus car to a 10 second et, if there’s any weakness, it will make itself known.
Dodge claims they tested one with over 5000 consecutive runs on launch control and no issues
They have had some differentials break but it can be cured. Dana 60 or 9". Moser can help that issue. Strange.
Id rather have the old car feel and smell vs new
That wasn’t even fair!
Supercharged vs N/A ...
Not a good matchup. Good fun to see tho.
Would love to see a FAST series ZL1 run against the Demon. Needless to say the stock looking Camaro, on original bias ply tires would smoke the Demon. Horsepower Depot runs one and it runs 9.50’s.
THANK YOU..........I was just responding to another comment where I mentioned the exact Camaro ( hugger orange ) that you're speaking of. With a naturally aspirated 632 cu in all aluminum motor & skinny ass factory stock tires, it blows the doors off of this supercharged Hemi running fat factory tires. And don't forget Horsepower Depot's father, who owns the black '69 Vette with the same engine & skinny tires, who holds the current record in the FAST class: a very low 9.
Yes! would have gapped him by 1 second lol.....
Have that Demon run that 71 hemi cuda or the Red L88 camaro running 9's...
They should have spotted the Camaro about 4 car lengths to be anywhere close to fair! I had a 69 Camaro back in the day but it was nothing like this one! Great car bad color!
The Dodge had slicks, the Camaro ZL1 was running Good Year tires'
Yeh the Dodge won as you would expect it to. But was the gap all that big when you consider they are separated by 50 years??
Actually kinda fast for the Camaro.
I'II take the ZL1,Thank You !!! Put that Demon up against a 68 Hemi Dart, should be interesting !!!
Demon won the race but the camaro won ouer hearts
I'm afraid I've gotten jaded a bit over what I assume are clone cars in this Pure Stock racing business. Today, you take a Camaro body, and build it into a ZL-1 clone. Go buy all the once-upon-a-time special ZL-1 parts from off some modern shelf and make new the holy grail of Chevrolet's. Then set it up with all the tricks and things allowed in pure stock, including bangin' compression, and magically keeping those (haha) Camaro axles from hopping or breaking, etc.... This Camaro - it's just a race car. It just looks like the real thing. It is nothing that special other than cloning something that was semi-available in the day (if you knew the right tricks to get it - COPO). That said, it is absolutely impressive how fast you can make that old iron (and I guess a lot of aluminum) go, and on those skinny tires. The Demon, on the other hand, is the actual factory gig, built by the factory, on the factory assembly line. Frankly I'm glad the Demon kicked its hand-built arse. Factory Dodge act versus race car. Too bad COPO didn't offer a blower in the day, in their box of special options. And a set of slicks. Like Dodge just did. Then it would've been a race. Like I said, I'm just jaded.
Yeah, that dodge was just like it rolled out the door, totally stock. If you believe that I got a bridge and some prime swampland to sell you.......
@@will7its the dodge is stock that's the way they were built from the factory
@@taylorpinkney7253 It is or you just think it is??? there is a difference.
@@will7its I never said I thought. I told you that it is stock. The demon is exactly the way it is when it left the factory
@@will7its that is a 9 second car from the factory
Rather have the camo
Now let's put a supercharger and bigger exhaust on the camaro to make it interesting.
That race would've been closer if the Camaro had similar rear tires (D.O.T. street slicks), even without a Supercharger on it!
I think I'd still rather have the ZL1.
'69 still impressive!
The camaro is far more impressive for its age and the fact that's its all engine. It still went 11s.
Kind of an unfair race? I mean, there's 300 hp difference.
I like the demon but I still love the Camaro I'm old school
3 vs 8 gears and a 300 hp diff. Yeah..Still take the Camaro, the rarity alone is worth more than the Dodge. Put a supercharger against supercharger. If you can find it, Super Snake Cobra. Just need about 5 million.
The demon cost 80k. The Camaro is worth 80k +....
Awesome but unevenly matched to say the least lol
Don't matter the new muscle is pathetic your not going to be able to beat on it like old school and have it hold together
This was a unfair matchup
Slap a supercharger on the zl1
Camaro Pure lung without supercharger, 1 second slower than the dodge with supercharger ,but there is a red ZL1 69 which does 9.6s in the 1/4 mile
Rather have the camaro, duh!!!
Old drag at tip spray pam cooking spray on rear quarters n wipe the rubber right off
Yeah, dont know what all that tape was for.......lol
I was expecting a bigger ass whooping from the Demon. But is 1.3 seconds faster than the Camaro a lot?
Alot of people are mad about this race
To make it a little more even how about a hundred shot of nitrous in the ZL1 and a pair of slicks then I would guarantee you that demon would be a kitty cat
And open headers!
Typical Chevroletturd's crying. Nothing's changed in 60 year's. Go change your diaper.
@@jayschmahl9206 A ‘69 ZL1 did 11.7 secs in the 1/4 mile with just open headers and slicks back in the day. Now just imagine it with a supercharger.
When You have a car that can put a couple of car link's ahead of a 11.84 second car. You know You have a bad a?? car.
The Camaro is all engine, it didn’t need the help of a supercharger. I’m underwhelmed by the Nocar!
@Corrie Elieff Haters be hatin
Hell my Scatpack would give the Zl1 a good race, don't even need a Demon, but it sure was badass.
@@srt8rocketship241 it ain’t ‘bout “hatin’”. Take the blower off that Dodge and it will fall flat on its face against the Camaro.
@@donaldhollums3278 Still hatin , as you know the supercharged engine will be low compression. So not designed to be N/A.
@@srt8rocketship241 I don’t know why you refer to as hatin’. Two different engines with only a V-8 configuration in common.
The stinkin Dogde wins I'd rather have the Camaro anyday
I notice tape on rear quarter panels too keep the rubber from sticking on that valuable paint when is someone going too invent a non stick paint for these vicious automobiles, just a question 🤔😏🤨😉👍
A montana car from Helena or am I high
I'd definitely take the COPO CAMARO over the demon
Lets see the tupperware dodge race one of the original hemis, now that would be a race.....
Supercharge that Camaro & she wins.
I HAVEN'T SEEN THE RACE YET BUT I WOULD BET DEMON WINS WITH THOSE NUMBERS .... THIS
$4000.000.00 SHOULD BE IN THE 11'S
That demon was not that far ahead of the Camaro honestly
