      Rules in the class are probably as long as mods don't show, like still a stock gm cam from an early car, different pistons, but still have to run stock manifolds and air cleaner. It's fair enough, he isn't running mid 12s like the hemi/dual carb cars.

      @@ryurc3033 engine internals are beyond inspection i suppose. which is cool, but how do they run those ETs on stock(appearing)tires?
      very impressive. my LS6 chevelle ran 12.20 with headers & 7” cheater slicks. still went up in smoke. ✌️

    • @maximumcoverage5591
      @maximumcoverage5591 Před rokem

      Since it wasn't a 73, than I hope the cam isn't from a 73. Not sure what the rules are but by ETs most of these cars have had some extra love in the motor. The ETs are almost always faster than the test drives back when they were new. I'm pretty sure they can run any cam that came in any version of the motor that's in the car. And compression can go up at least a point from stock. So dude can put the LS6 or even LS7 (wasn't there a race only or boat LS7 or am I making shit up in my head?) Cam in the engine as well as bumping up the compression and I'm sure if they shaved the heads a tiny bit that would bump up the compression as well. Legally they can make that motor a lot closer to an LS6 specs rather than the low comp LS4 or what ever engine code it was from the factory with. This race was settled by the drivers not the cars.

      My guess, (this is just my theory anyway) most of the top guys in f.a.s.t racing are allowed modifications, as long as it doesn't show, so a cam that's close to stock, better pistons, tuning upgrades under distributor cap, carb tuning, gasket match the intake manifold, hone the exhaust manifolds. As long as it still appears stock. I know one big block Camaro that ran 10 psi in the polyglass tires to try to make them hook up, would spin the wheel a quarter turn in the tire on a launch.

I was 21, driver was Very smart motorhead, and it was actually a bit frightening. He took me for a 20 minute ride, & manually shifted gears with a BANG. I kept being shoved back in my seat. WTF ?! The torque was unbelievable. Then, in '71, they started lowering compressions down from 11 & 12 to 8.5. Then, in '72, they went to S.A.E. net ratings, which confused things. What a mess. Then came cats & smog pumps. Sick & demoralizing. Then, 1984. Friend bought a new 5.0 Mustang with 5-speed O.D. clutch. Not too shabby! 😄😄 'Nuff said.

      Apparently you never went to a dragstrip in your day. First to cross the finish line wins, not quickest ET. Rules have been the same since the sport began.

    I had a 66 Plymouth Satellite with a 361 ci 3 speed automatic,
    2 barrel .
    My friend had a 69 Plymouth Roadrunner 383 4 barrel 4 speed.
    Believe it or not my Satellite was faster .
    You can take two identical cars and one will always be faster .
    Never did figure out why I could beat him .
    But I loved it .

      many engines had very tight piston/cylinder wall clearance which killed high rpm horsepower. a loose 383 will rev like no tomorrow.

      @@brianmanners8910 at least, to me it is. The grille (especially the shape of the front in top view), the single headlights, the shape of the roof, the rear bumper with the round lights. The overall proportions of the car are just right.

    Fartastically tight racing. Blue Mustang in the background of last vid. Cougar in this vid. Do they not allow cars that run 10-second times in stock shape to race here? Too many GM whiners?
