Very impressive olds. To get that little 350 to run that good is crazy. It had mph on the 440 every run. Meaning its making a little more horsepower but spotting some torque because of its size. Both awsome cars and unbelievably fast being in pure stock class.

    Goodday C & Z,
This is a race of the BB God vs the SB God.
My 2 absolutely favorite muscle cars. I owns a Mopar but I so so desire a Oldsmobile W 31, & the beauty about them no one knows about them.
    Wolf in Sheep Clothes.
This is how rare W31 are. I have been following Mecum Auction for a decade & not 1 & I mean not 1 W31 ever crossed the block.
I wanted the Super Bee to win 1 race, then the W31 to win 1 & then who ever wins best of luck.
Happy with the time the W31 pulled gave the Bee a run for its money.
By the way I am Australia's biggest Oldsmobile fan too.
Great race, you have absolutely nailed it love your work.
Your number 1 Fan in Australia

Fortunately since everyone wants a w30 with the 455 the w31 in good shape is only in the 30s and is a great deal that was overlooked

Just love to get my hands on a 1968 W31 just a pocket rocket.
The cost to import it into Australia what ever you buy it for in the states, double it & add an extra 20 % & that is what it will cost you.
      Thanks for the heads up.
      Cheers

That 350 is a monster! I always liked those Olds muscle cars but this surprised me. It reminds me of the little 4-banger that could, the 1990 Olds HO Quad4, 5-speed, that I used to drive. It was a small engine but it was a little beast and sounded like one when it revved.

im a little choked up. man, that was some great racing! im really impressed with both cars. of course the oldsmobile. what a showing. that olds pissed off that bee and he came back for blood. thats the cars. these drivers are absolutely fantastic. back in my day, i did a bit of racing. i am double impressed with these guys because, i know how hard it is to race on stock tires. the 2 races that i lost in my bee, were the 2 times i tried racing on stock tires. those 2 old geezers(then), out drove me. they were in street tires as well. i spun. they left. it would be super interesting to throw slicks on these cars to see what they could really do. im guessing maybe knock a second off of each ones time?

one definite advantage these guys have with street tires is that they're on a drag strip. have you ever walked around the start line on a hot day? that area has sooo much stick-em and melted tires you had better have your shoes laced up tight or you're leaving them stuck to the track. fortunately, I had slicks for the bee. the only other car I took to the track did have street tires. it was a Challenger, 340 auto with 4.30s and headers. that thing had no low end. a little tire spin would have really helped it out. best I got out of that one was a high 14 at 97mph. it needed a smaller converter bad. the good old days, sigh...

    • @mrkemblegilstrap
      @mrkemblegilstrap Před 2 lety +2

@@chevyblue10 fantastic drivers. no way in h I could do that. I bet with slicks, some of these 4 speed cars would be getting the front tires in the air. imagine reving up to 6 grand and just slipping your foot off of the clutch pedal. in my day, there was a '69 Barracuda with a hot 340, 4 speed and slicks. we used to race on the edge of town by the airport. my brother used to work for a land surveying company and we got him to measure a perfect 1,320 starting on a small concrete bridge. so, you had a few car lengths of concrete launch pad then the rest was asphalt. anyways, the Barracuda got 3, 6 grand launches, lifted the front tires a few inches each time, before the u joints said bye bye. oh, another time(at band camp) a '40 Ford dropped his front u-joints at the end of the quarter and pole vaulted himself into the ditch on the side of the road. he was ok, the car was destroyed. it left a wicked gouge in the road that was there for many years. when we first started a serious street race scene. like dummies we would all drive in a big long procession out to one of our 3 spots. naturally the cops caught on to that and would swarm us. we finally got smart and had everybody break up into 2s and 3s and sneak out of town. another place we had was a concrete road. great traction. we never measured that one. the finish was just considered to be the 3rd ginormous power pole. another one was by the naval air station. we got some of the groupies to measure that one with a 100 foot extension cord, lol. that place was the worst, tho. all asphalt and a box canyon. when the cops showed, we were definitely caught. cars used to line up on both sides of the road, start to finish. it was awesome. we were pretty stupid and lucky that nobody ever got hurt. that Ford was the only casualty in many years.

Olds put out a notice through their division to put aside any/all engine components (as they came in from foundries/suppliers) that had PERFECT weight/dimension specs; specifically for the W-motors.

If you want to hear that cam (308) auto (328) stick in 68 ramrods and some w30s close up I Got a few of them 308 and 328 cams idling on my channel, ones on a rallye 350 stick car the other on a post coupe 70 442 and one in my 70 W30. As you can see I’m an Oldsmobile and Mopar fanatic and lover, sadly races like this eat me alive lol and I can’t choose one over the other but love them both. I’ve had w31s and a Stick with 3.91s that would beat my 442 big blocks even w25 ram air cars always. They just spun/revved so quick (mere moments) with the massive 4.057 bore and under 3.5” stroke I think 3.385 if I recall.
I will add that my 340 (4.04 bore with a little 3.31 stroke) dusters especially my 4 speed car is insanely quick and revs to 6000 in mere moments also prob revs quicker then the olds 350 and has a better oiling system and can sustain 6000-6500 stock consistently. Would love to see a comparably worked 340 Duster or Demon go up against the w31 with same suspension and chassis setup and i suspect massaged internals as my 31s never broke into 12s on bias or even radials, Mid 13s on bias but never 12s same with my duster 340s. I would go with the 340 being they weigh a click over 3000-3200 and the w31 3500-3800 even with the factory sound majority of deadening delete and under coating delete/mist.
Regardless awesome races and lots of effort and prep by both drivers/owners.

Both of those drivers were top notch. The Dodge had one slightly off pass, otherwise the groupings were very very tight.

It blows my mind that the A12 Super B is a full second faster than it was in 1970 when the magazine tested it and look at that w31 oldsmobileis running 12.60 at 109mph thats nearly. Can anyone tell me why the cars are running times like that...

Read the rules for pure stock. They are allowed some modifications. If the W31 was taking advantage of all of them and the A12 wasn’t it can make a big difference.
