Don't know what's up with the Vette, but the '74 had a two piece rear end, you can see the big seam down the middle from 50 yards. Either that's not a '74 or maybe the owner couldn't find the right year part to replace a damaged one.

I was slightly disappointed because the commentary was a bit more "subdued" than normal, but I recognize that our favorite combination of innuendo/toilet humor does take time and effort, so hopefully the next video will attain the high standards we have all come to appreciate from Cars and Zebras. Even then in the start of the low powered heavy smog laden era, the L82 was still being underrated. Just look at those low RPM numbers. The L82 with it's slightly higher compression, aprox 9.2 vs. 8.5, higher lift longer duration cam and much better flowing heads could safely turn 6,000 RPM with peak H.P. at 5,600 RPM. True H.P. was 280-300. At the crank of course. Quite good for mid-70's! Build a 350 as close as possible to '74 L82 specs and dyno it! You will see.

Is the Corvette driver just not very good? Or is this at a higher elevation? The L-82 with a 4 speed and 3.73 gears should be quicker. I had the same combo in a '74 Z/28. Granted I had headers, Edelbrock RPM Performer and 3310 Holley, but I had no problem smoking C4 Corvettes that allegedly ran mid 14s. But bone stock with a 4 speed in either car should be flirting with 14s.

I thought his times were very consistent. These cars really weren't that quick. My '70 L46 is quicker but even so it barely can do a high 14 ¼

@@Scottwax you could be right on that because of the times but the Oldsmobile does indicate he was putting the coals to it with that tire chirp from first to second in the third pass and his trap time was similar. Back in the late 70's and early 80's I had a '72 Gran Torino with a 351C 4Bbl 4 speed, a 'Cuda with a 340 six pak with a 4 speed and I also had a friend with a '66 GTO with a 389 tri-power and 4 speed and they all felt effin' fast but I know they were low to mid 14 cars at best. I think the guy in the Olds gave it all she had and the Corvette I agree should have been a little quicker, especially out of the hole with those gears but I gotta say, their times were consistent so they both seemed really bracketed.

Eddy intake, headers & true dual w/ no cats Vette would be low 14s

I love the body style and looks of the 3rd Gen Stingray but I always hated those plastic front and rear bumpers that even new off the assembly line did not hold their shape properly and any time they sat in the hot sun they looked horrendous, like they were almost 50 years old years old!

That 16 secs for the 1970 pace car is horrible. 1970 was the peak of the horsepower wars. Most serious cars were pushing 400 hp or more and they were drastically underrated for insurance purposes. The contenders of that era 68-70 they could get mid 13's
