    Normally, a 396 Chevelle would have been a relatively safe opponent for a Hemi Cuda, but the L89 396 was one of Chevrolet's best motors ever. It has been established that the real horsepower rating of the solid-lifter 396 was closer to its rating in the Corvette, (425 BHP,) than its 375 BHP rating in a Chevelle. With those aluminum heads, any opposing street car had its hands full in a race. Thankfully for the competition, L89 cars were scarce as chicken lips.

If you think about it the Cuda made 425HP and only 55lbs more than the Chevelle so the Chevelle had to make a little more HP.....I don't know maybe I'm wrong but I think the Chevelle made just a few more HP and with the weight difference made it go.

    Great race but 4:10s vs 4:88s in the Chevelle, gives the Chevy a major advantage. Put 4:10s in both and see the Hemi live up to it's legend.

    I ran 12:33 @117mph in an 81 camaro. It had a 383 stroker, and a super t10 with 3.42 posi. I could never launch that thing good, and I had really good potenza 275/40/17 in the back. How are these guys running that time with heavy cars and shit tires?!

    following comment NOT a slam - this is good racing. I didn't need to read the rules, these cars LOOK like pure stock. Mechanically, more like NHRA Super Stock.

    • @CarsAndZebras
      @CarsAndZebras  Před rokem

      Definitely not Super Stock, as they have to use factory intake manifolds and original camshaft specs. This class follows the stock rules the NHRA used in the 60s/early 70s.

      🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
      Not even close to NHRA Stock Eliminator. A 396/375 Chevelle in NHRA Stock Eliminator in A/SA will run 9.90 at 130+.
      In Super Stock it would be SS/EA, 9.20 at 142+.
      My Super Stock 396/375 makes 790HP+, 580 ft/lb of torque, and runs up to 9200 RPM.
      These cars are not even close to either class.
      A decent G/SA small block Chevy car will beat them handily.
